Wow she is so good! I'm going through hell trying to use the aerokat spacer on my cat and wanted to see if a nebulizer would be easier. A few questions if you wouldn't mind...:) Did you try the aerokat also? How long do you have to hold the nebulizer mask on? Are you giving her steroids in the nebulizer or just albuterol? Thank you for posting :)
I haven't tried the Aerokat spacer, but I use something similar NebulAir chamber with Flovent for nasal swelling and only albuterol in the nebulizer. I mainly use the albuterol in her chamber. I use the nebulizer when she needs more help.
The only steroids that has been used on her is thru shots and each time she an awful reaction which set caused pancreatitis. So her vet won't give that to her again. SO it has been very difficult to treat her asthma.
@moxee33 In the video you responded to she would have the mask on any where from 8 to 10 mins depending on how high or low I ran the nebulizer. I don't have that one in the video any longer as it wore out, the one i currently use takes a lot longer cause it puts out much slower. I would have gotten the same one i had before but couldn't afford it.
Please feel free to ask more questions.
Tuesday is still with us but has gone down in health. On top of her asthma she is gets fluids for her CRF
my cat had a treatment today and hasn't meowed since I picked him up at the vet. i'm worried that it traumatized him somehow, but he was so stuffed up I am hoping after a couple of treatments he will get better and forget it, and forgive us!!!!
to Follower64: re your question whether animals are on the same level as humans - in your case, no, they're not, they're way way way above you. What loving an animal you have committed to caring for has to do with little booties is clearly something only you could possibly see. Go get therapy for your issues.
Probably a new cat, but I don't get rid of an animal because of cost. Now if she was in pain and it effected her quality of life I would put her down because I love her. I would never put her down just because it COST too much. She is like a child to me, I wouldn't put my child down if their health issues cost a lot.
nyissa, I am wondering about nebulizers and whether Tuesday has a very bad form of asthma that necessitates this over an inhaler? My 8 month old kitten has just been diagnosed with moderate asthma and I'm training her in on the inhaler. I'm just amazed at how good Tuesday is for you!
Oh how I despise people like you. When you take in an animal, it's for life. Unless they are in significant pain and suffering, you do whatever you can for them to ensure they lead happy, healthy, comfortable lives. It should NEVER be about money. And if it is, then you should not have pets!
One of my cats was recently diagnosed with asthma and I have and am doing everything I possibly can to make his life more comfortable. To me, my cats are my family & I will always do whatever it takes!

And oh how I despise people like you. It's one thing to find companionship within a pet, but to treat it like child, that's disturbing. I see these unhappy animals wearing ridiculous small shirts and tiny shoes sitting at a dinner table and it makes me sick. I wonder what condition this person has that causes them to treat an animal like this. Perhaps the death of a child? Did daddy used to drink a bit too much and beat you? Did putting booties on the cat make it easier to explain the bruises?
I treat my animals like family because that is exactly what they are, my family. Why should they be replaceable when people aren't? And all of my cats, including the one who has feline asthma, are entirely happy.
Millions of people with asthma use inhalers everyday and live happy fulfilling lives. Animals are no different. It is merely a minor setback that can be treated to improve quality of life.

Oh, and when your single mother is working her ass off to provide for three sons and the dog needs an expensive liver operation, an overdose shot of sodium phenobarbytol is a much sounder solution.
Animals are not put on earth only to serve OUR needs. They exist in their own right and have feelings and we have a moral obligation to care for them. A cat may be replaceable with another cat, but they are not like an old car that costs too much to fix so we get another one! Playing amateur psychologist is no different than playing God. People who love their animals as family are the ones who WERE loved in childhood thus learned to love animals as they do their own children.
Wow....your must really have issues. Did your parents leave you as a child. I'm sure that by the way you express your hatred for animals.....something is deep. Perhaps you should look into therapy!!!!! Hope it doesn't cost too much!!!
But, as for the lady that posted this video...thank you....I can now get help for my cat.
Fascinating! Thanks for posting this video. Medicating a cat for asthma is just like what they do for people. I have asthma, and your cat and I share the same medications. ;) While I've never come across feline asthma with any of my "kids", my 18 year old cat is starting to struggle with renal problems. We're hoping to avoid sub-q fluids, but we'll see how she does on her prescription food. May I ask how old Tuesday is? I hope she is doing well - you are a great mom!
Aww! What a sweetie, and so are you for putting all your love, kindness, and patience into this special needs cat. I use a nebulizer for my asthma, and I don't like it. Your kitty is handling it like a champ because she knows you are giving her the treatments because you love her and care for her dearly, and you want her to live for as long as she can. Hugs to your and your kitty, and keep on loving her. :)
I have never seen a cat have to have the treatments for such a long period at once..was your kittie's asthma especially bad? I'm asking b/c mine is about to have to go on the Flovent and albuterol as well. Thank you so much for posting this.
When she was 1st diagnosed she started out on albuterol via inhaler. Her asthma was pretty bad then, she had fluid in her lung. But the vet also thinks she had asmtha far longer than we knew. Then a little later she was switched to the albuterol in the nebulizer (more effective that way) plus if needed we could also use the nebulizer to give her treatments with normal saline (if needed).
Hope your little one does well, let me know how it goes!!
Would you rather kill an inocent animal, just because it is a "pet" that is like saying "lets kill the people with cancer cause they are suffering and dont have a chance.. We need more people who will actually take care of animals and give them a chance!
I'm sorry i didn't know the cat was sick i didn't read the comments i thought you were gasing it, i can be dumb sometimes i feel sorry for you and the cat. hope your cat gets better
How wonderful that Tuesday has such a devoted caregiver to adminster her treatments with such patience and care. I also have a Tortie (dilute) that has asthma, she gets Flovent and Albuterol with an aerokat, and she is such a good girl during treatments. Thanks for sharing this!
May I ask why you went back to a nebulizer? Does it help her more than the inhalers?
Tuesday started off in the beginning with the Albuterol inhaler. When that stopped helping she was switched to the nebulizer, in which I use liquid Albuterol. Then when that wasn't helping the vet switched her back to the Albuterol inhaler with flovent added with the NebulAir Chamber. She gets that 3 times a day and only the nebulizer when she needs a little extra help and mainly we now just use sterile saline in the nebulizer since she is on the inhalers.
How long has your Tortie has asthma? Have you always just used the Flovent and Albuterol with the aerokat? Do you find that some days that the 2 inhalers just isn't enough and how many times a day does your little one get the inhalers?
She's been getting treatments now for 2 months since her diagnosis, but she's probly had it her whole life. (about 6 years) She is on Flovent 220mcg, 2 puffs, twice per day, and albuterol as needed. She's doing a lot better since we started. For now... the inhalers are working, and hopefully that's all she will ever need. **fingers crossed**
Yes she is very brave, she has had to endure so much but she really never puts up much of a fuss. Well she did we we started her iv fluids at home but she has gotten use to that now and she just sits there till we are done!!
She kinda fought it when we first started the treatments, but now she just sits there, lol sometimes she does get impatient, she just needs little reminders!! lol
We also started Sub-q fluids here at home for her renal failure. We give that to her every other day.
thats cute. I just got my Nebulizer today. It sucks for me, a human to have to use it. Must be really annoying for a cat. I also use flovent. Hope she feels better.

It's funny you should say that, before her treatment all she has to see is the cords to the nebulizer and she tries to sneak off and hid! lol But once she is caught, she pretty much gives in lol
Poor Tuesday! How often does she have to have a treatment? I'm sure she's getting used to it (though she doesn't enjoy it) by now, but how hard was it the first few times?
Actually it really wasn't that bad. I just had to scruff her and put the mask on, I had someone there to hold her front and back paws down if I needed it, but all in all she did pretty good even from the start. At first I giving 2 nebulizer treatments a day. Then it seem to not work as well so, she is now on 2 kinds of inhalers daily as needed. If she gets really bad & the inhalers don't work I do give her a nebulizer treatment. She's quite a trooper!!

Is the chronic bacterial sinusitis a form of Sinus Infection?
Has she had this more than once? I know the Flovent was given to Tuesday to help reduce swelling in her nasal cavity.
