I have created a fully fuctional NXT Ball Coaster with nxt 2.0 kit. The only changes were that I had to improvise all of the 15 holes, and I ha to change the tilting tray and the NXT Brick stand. And I also used Cuponk balls

Right, you pick the distance. This program tells the motor to lift when the ultrasonic sensor sees an object closer than 10 cm (4 inches) away.

Actually, the ultrasonic sensor detects when the ball is in place and triggers the lift, but if another ball comes too soon afterwards, then the lift cannot get down in time to catch it.

In this design, there is nothing to stop the balls at the end of the track to force them to wait until the lift is ready, so if the balls get too close together then one will roll under the lift. I left this failure in the video so that you can see what happens. On the web site for this project (see link in the description), the "Challenges" includes ideas on how to fix this...
