My guess is that it's something due to the fact that "straight no chaser" is a term in drinking that refers to just the drink and nothing else following, while the group is without instruments, their singing is Straight No Chaser. Plus, they were college guys, and there's a line in the song "Straight No Chaser" that mentions "drinking straight no chaser."

I have been in our church choir 20+ years now - we do a version of Silent Night with Night of Silence sung along with it - beautiful arrangement. Would LOVE to hear SNC do a version like that too!
