  • @myrecord collection.... I am not privy to any details regarding compensation but I can tell you the band members were consulted about the Akarma reissue and the ones I talked too seemed truly flattered by the interest and excited to get their music out there again. My box set was a gift given to me from two of the members.

  • Being personal friends with the two main vocalists of this band I can assure any naysayers that every member of this highly underated band was contacted about this re release! These guys are humble hardworkers that were flattered to be contacted about re releasing their tunes and played them live in 2000 @ the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they blew the roof off the f'ing place! Outstanding people and outstanding musicians, top to bottom and although I got my box set for 0 I'd have paid $20+

  • So what you're saying is, the band WAS consulted for the Akarma CD reissue and that it is NOT in fact a bootleg release?

  • The material released by Akaram, by DOAB, including the box set, was a completely unathorized release and amounted to "theft of inrtellectual property". That is not unuaual for Akaram, they've done the same to quite a few other artist of the era.

  • Yeah, that was my impression also. Some of Akarma's stuff is pretty nice, but it definitely seems like a not-quite-legitimate label.

  • Yeah, feed your minds!!! Excellent!

  • Akarma is a bootleg crook theif record label. My 2 cousins were in a band called Phafner & Akarma bootleged their album. Rockadrome records is a great psyck reissue label. Check em out!!

  • and he says: "We as a group are extremely flattered and appreciative that Akarma put forth such a wonderful job in re-packaging the product." So it looks like the group members were paid for this, at least...but I don't know, nothing is really clear about any of this. The CD is still available new online, but the prices are high; lowest I could find was twenty dollars. Sorry for the consecutive long posts. Expect another one in a few weeks or so, though; I'm going to do some more research....

  • Huh, okay. Cool. Maybe we can say Akarma is quasi-legitimate: somewhere in between your typical USA media conglomerate and a bootleg label. Ultimately I'm obviously not that worried about copyright since I posted this copyrighted material here, but I'm more concerned about availability. Supposedly the point of this video is to make otherwise unavailable music available, or at least rare music available to a larger audience

  • @shkinney420 i'm sure paying $20 for a bag of weed is no problem for you. Yet you'll grouse about spending $20 for a CD that will give you years of use is an issue,,,interesting...

  • I never complained about spending 20 dollars on a CD, dumbass. I was just saying that's a little much to be the minimum price for one on the internet, in order to suggest that it might not still be in print. I also said I got mine for ten or fifteen, and didn't complain at all. You're a retarded dickhead, what the hell is your problem?

  • As I was about to say...there are indeed a couple of interviews with band members included. The first one seems to be conducted by Akarma, but it doesn't say. The second one doesn't appear to be originally done for Akarma, but unlike the music, this one is clearly copyrighted. Most importantly, the journalist asks guitarist Jim Quinn about the Akarma CD release, not mentioning legality, and (I'll need another post for this)...

  • Wow. I see now that it could very well be an illegal reproduction, though I can't say for certain. The CD itself contains a warning against copyright infringement, but I've looked all over the sleeve, the booklet, and all other places, and I can't find a patent or copyright symbol/date anywhere, which is suspicious. And yes, it appears the legality/legitimacy of Akarma as a record label has been called into question by some. It looks like I'll need another post...

  • Actually, Akarma legally released this album on CD back in 2000, with extensive liner notes and an interview with several band members, and I bought it in the fall of '08 for about ten or fifteen dollars from a seller on Amazon. I think it was mastered from the original studio 8-track or whatever. It was first released in September of 1969, and I think it is killer hard rock and psychedelia. (I would be listening to the CD right now, but I left it in my dorm).

  • You're right but there are two things in question here. First, was this a legitimate release? Akarma is an Italian label whose legality and legitimacy aren't quite evident. Second, is it still in print? I think all of the stuff that Akarma put out is no longer available.

  • @shkinney420 internet einsteins like u (the 420 thing is the FIRST tipoff) slay the piss outta me. re-effinglax and light one up, then look in the mirror douchebag

  • Did these guys do the same thing as Michael Stanley and choose NOT to go national? They were awesome!!!!!

  • I Love this song!

Don't Forget the Akarma 180gr LP reedition!!

    really beautiful!

  • Can't believe I forgot .... But then again.

Good question earlier... Why never made it?

    I probably used to know.

  • I think they didn't make it because although they had good albums, they didn't really have any catchy singles.

  • Te faltó "Sueños" , la segunda del lado 2. Muy buena banda , con una bateria agresiva.

    Buena música , buenos tiempos...........

  • Why the hell didn't this band make it big?!?!

    The singer is killer balls!!

  • esta chevere

  • Me fascina esta banda DE ROCK PSICODELICA, me acuerdo q la escuche hace años en una radio en LIMA - PERU hace tiempo.

    SALUDOS DESDE VENEZUELA

  • I'm from Portsmouth Ohio and got turned on to Damnation early on. Morning Dew is awesome! Great band from the day. Thanks for posting. You Tube never ceases to amaze. If I remember it, it's here.

  • Go Portsmouth! I used to live in Athens, which isn't too far away from Scioto Co. A former colleague of mine from OU now teaches at Shawnee State.

  • I've gone all these years not reaizing Damnation & The Damnation of Adam Blessing were the same band. I got hooked on Damnation - "Which Is The Justice". Great use of the Melotron on 'Sometimes I feel Like I Just Can't Go On". Very powerful tune. Loved it then and still love it today! Great story re: the fight that ensued seconds after the inside photo was taken. You'd never know there was going to be trouble looking at the smiling faces of the band!

  • There version of Last Train to Clarksville and the "take me to the river" song are often still played by NE ohio radio stations

  • If you're lucky you can find this album new as an Italian import on vinyl. Scott at Time Travelers in Cuyahoga Falls, OH can order it. I got mine for $20.

  • am from cleveland and remember this group well. mr. my record collection, do you have morning dew? excellent version. and what about the baskervilles? Used to vacation at one of the hounds cottages on the lake as my best friend's father was friends with bobby and pam, i believe he was the guitarist. If you have any old cleveland groups, please send. thanks, denise

  • Badop

  • awesome. Had heard about this band for years from friends out of Cleveland. Great to hear it finally.

  • Sure would be great if someone could get "Back to the River" on youtube.

    One of their best!

  • Hey! I'm telling you that it feels good to walk among greatness. Ray, thanks for keepin' it movin' and groovin'. We love ya, man at In the Upper Room.

  • Hey guys, thanks for all the cool feed back on DOAB! We never became millionair Rock Stars, but we sure left an impression, and are thankful for friends like you...

  • I learned with this album...¿ do you have " you don´t love me" and "Dreams"?

  • How to find a copy of those albums today I wonder? Any suggestions?

  • Ebay. For $20 or so they're not hard to find. I actually sold a second copy that I had of this first album a few months ago.

  • There's an Italian CD-Box set with all their best releases. I saw it on E-bay about a year ago. Also check Amazon.

  • It freaks me out listening because I personally know someone very close to the lead guitars of THEN, and I know for a fact that Robert Kalamasz hates my guts, and wants to kill me.

  • I know I saw these dudes somewhere in the early 70's, perhaps Hellofaballoo in Chesterland? I remember Morning Dew and some great drum solos too. They reminded me of Grand Funk at the time.

  • I was a regular at Chesterland Hullaballoo and I remember these guys, as well as The Raspberries, and the James Gang with Joe Walsh!!!!!!!

  • love DOAB--some of my best trips were to the first album--and many to the second. All of Euclid was toasted to liquid on smarties one summer and we all tripped out heavy to these tunes--I still have them both in vinyl I will have to get a usb turntable--THANKS

  • Oh....man!!!!

    thanx for post it

  • I loved this drummer's work. Great music that I still enjoy. Great music is timeless. As is this album.

  • I live in the Pittsburgh area and I remember hearing the song on the radio and going to the store to buy it. It sure had a unique sound.

  • I have a single that I bought when it came out called "Back to the river". Are you familiar with it? Its still one of my all time favorite songs. I never saw this album which you posted . They sound real good.

  • Interesting...I don't know that one. Maybe it was on their single but not on their album. Or it might be on another album; this is the only one I have.

  • Back to the River was an AWESOME song off the Lp Second Damnation. It peaked out at # 3 Locally (Cleveland area). Nice 45 to have... Take Care.. John

  • Thanks for having this video on YouTube. I had the pleasure of meeting them last year and hearing them perform at the Beachland Ballroom here in Cleveland. You have an awesome collection of music. How have you been able to find all these collector records?? Love just to browse thru your collection one day... John

  • How have I found them? Lots of hunting and lots of patience.

  • It just seems like you've been able to find alot of collectable stuff in great shape. There's always alot of lp's floating around but they are NOT always in decent shape. How often do you go record hunting ??... John

  • fine group and album indeed, not possible for me to have it in the original pressing. i've got the nice akarma reissue with 2 posters added. i think it's out of print that too now...
