Paul, thanks for writing this SUPER song for America after the horrific attacks on our nation 10 years ago, the fact that you're British makes this song even more special to Americans. And America can't thank you, Eric, The Who, David, Elton and all the other British people who performed at "The Concert for New York City" 10 years ago at a time when Americans were still hurting and trying to get back to normal lives. @JJMFB1 excuse a musician for writing a song after that, to show support in music, and comforting people. many artist wrote songs during that time about freedom and being patriotic. and musicians who go on tours dont play the same old music unless theyre washed up, he did play this after the fact at a concert i went too. but a few years after he wrote another album so he tours with that music. i respect his political mind. dont comment on what you do not understand.
@mararules God does give us freedom through His son Jesus Christ, when he rules our hearts and minds, rules does not matter much, we are no longer in chains by rules and sins.
This is one of the best songs Paul McCartney ever wrote he has always had a special place in America. Thank you Paul because this song says everything and after 9/11 we must never forget.
Don't you remember 9/11? People all over the world were sympathetic to Americans. Plus Paul was pretty much adopted by Americans along with the rest of the Beatles. AND he was in New York during 9/11.
I remember hearing Paul talk about that on Howard Stern. He was sitting in a plane waiting for take off and they couldn't cause' every plane in America had been grounded. And he could see the WTC from his window seat.
IF you'll notice, ever since we got past the whole Revolutionary War, America and England have since been strong allies in the fight for freedom! This song isn't just American, it is for everyone!
The traditional American philosophy teaches that Man, The Individual, is endowed at birth with rights which are unalienable because given by his Creator.
God-given rights are called Natural Rights--those possessed by Man under the Laws of Nature, meaning under the laws of God's creation and therefore by gift of God. Man (government or anyone else) has no power to alienate--to dispose of, by surrender, barter or gift--his God-given rights, according to the American philosophy.
Cool!!!! But after the interview it cut to another clip of Paul (I think at the super bowl in 2005), but unfortunately it was the end of the video!! It would have been cool to see round two of terry and paul singing a hard day's night in '05.

Kinda ironic that he says love you america, in nawlins, and a few years later, the whole katrina incident happened. Guess we were too busy chasing spectres across deserts, that there was no money left for poor, black people.
Correct. Prior to the invasion, which has resulted in the deaths of as many as 1,500,000 civilians, the US sponsored an embargo against the Iraqi people. UN estimates are that 600,000 to 850,000 children died as a result of the embargo.

freedom = say what you want to say and believe what you want without fear of death. In many other countries i.e. Islamic countries you cannot leave Islam without being executed. There is no freedom. There is no human rights. Its all about slavery - to their religion. You cannot go out on the street and speak of any other contradicting religion. You will be jailed and killed. hundreds of thousands of people are in jail and sentenced to death as you read this.

i cant believe you called americans stupid this is you homeland and you have the nerve to call the people stupid you jus need to go on to iraq and get yur head blown off cuz you are the only stupid american as far as i can tell
its a great sentiment, he saw the towers go down from a window. we may have freedom, but some dont, and thats what the song is about, we all have the birthright to have freedom, and damn it fight for it!
Plus this song is shit, its so banal, and just so badly written, he just keeps saying 'Freedom' in a number of vocal ranges then sings that old cliched lyric "I will fight for the right"
a very very bad song, if only he could revert back too his Wings or Flaming Pie periods!
I think this song is on a level with his classic stuff.... done under pressure too, nice accomplishment... I just wish that John could have been around to add some lyrics...
Your such a dick....he isn't your musical colleague, he may be an inspiration, butit doesn mean you know him, because he doesnt know you! fucking warped twat!
To: jimmys2007abc- Your Profanity is not worthy of a reply&I know Paul McCartney would agree. He is a gentleman.StudyEnglish,19yr.youngBrit.Iam57yr.Professional Musician close to Paul's age,-Mycomment "Musical Colleague" was used in senseofcommonality.Definition in Webster's New World Dictionary:"Fellow Worker In The SameProfession" YOU do Not know me, a Lady, &I have several 'Musical colleagues & Friends.-pennymusicMAma
Well if i'd realised your age i wouldnt have sworn....i'm not accustomed too swearing at people nearing 60....sorry for that, he's hardly a gentlemen, he was the source of John Lennon's pain, he was a selfish idiot during the end of the beatles days when brian epstein died he took over and John said "we were sick of being sidemen for paul".....lets just say im not a PM fan!
I think maybe you are a little warped and one of these Paul McCartney fuckers that jack off too 'Dance Tonight's' catchy backbeat....or possibly a poster of this un-talented, jaunty, half arsed 'musician' this man call's himself.....'Freedom' a monkey could've written that
I don't think you can overstate just how McCartney helped pull this country together after 9/11. With the concert for New York and performances such as this the man was(and is) downright inspiring.
Right i don't care anymore, this was ages ago, he was a talented Beatle, as a solo artist (Not so great)....the point i was trying too make that was John was a bigger Beatle and a more Talented Solo artist...
also i hate americans that like the beatles, because us brits are like "Yeah the beatles were cool" americans are like "THE BEATLES I WANT TOO FUCK THEM!"
You're an idiot. I have been a Beatles fan since 1963. No one that I know ever wanted to "FUCK THEM" as you say. From what I have seen, the brits reacted to them just like everybody else did, especially the women.
You are wrong about John. They were all equally talented. If they weren't, we would not be having this discussion. There would be no you vs us.
You calm down and not stir the waters anymore. Allow those of us who are Beatles and Macca fans enjoy this.
You bunch of arrogant, self-important, globalising bastards...
And you say "Allow those of use who are beatles and macca fans enjoy this"
Well i'm a huge Beatles Fan, every album, even those strange past masters albums and the capitol albums.
Its just when i listen too this song, i wonder how the beatles even come about, and i start thinking "Wow, John and George must have been doing all the writing"...this song is quite literally terrible.
You may not like the song Freedom but some do. It represents a time of healing for what happened on 9/11. No, not one of his best songs, not even close but for those of us who had to witness the planes hitting buildings and people jumping to their death instead of waiting to burn to death, this song represents something that helped us start to heal.
My dear, I am no nationalist, i hate the UK (would a nationalist say this....no!)
Infact hates a strong word, i more disapprove of our foreign policies, as i do with america, you say that i show lack of compassion, well i say your the idiot for making an assumption about someone you dont even know, now lets get back too Paul McShitney, maybe the song 'Freedom' helped out all you 9/11 people, but would you have survived had it not been for this song....yes you would...silly comment!
Yes, I know we would have survived but it would have taken a bit longer to start to heal had it not been for Paul and his friends for the Concert for NYC where this song debuted. This song just represents that. I never EVER said we would not have survived. I said we started to heal. Silly comment back to ya!
Well its a sticky situation, of course your allowed your opinion, but im also allowed my opinion and you having a go at me for my opinion is a bit wrong, i called your country and its leaders those things, i didnt call you them, so its not an insult, if you are self-important and are arrogant then you are a bastard, but not knowing you, i cant make that assumption, can we agree too disagree, i dont particularly like this song, you do....
I don't care that you don't like this song but when you make assumptions, be prepared to back them up. I don't love this song, it's only okay but we needed some cheering up during a terrible time. And when you generalize a whole country, you are generalizing the people as well as the leaders. I have good English friends living in the States or UK, friends from all over the world. I would never generalize the people for what the gov't does.
Also you say you have been a fan since 1963, how old were you 6, i think maybe your telling a porky, i have a 6 year old brother and have had other 6 year old brothers and sisters, and none of them, i mean none of them, have even given music a thought at 6 years old, and now theyre 12 and 17, and they are huge music fans, admit it, you didnt start liking them until later on, maybe you heard mummy listening too them over the radio while doing the washing up, but didnt pay much attention....huh?
My dear, you have no idea who you are fighting with. In 1963 I was a bit older than 6. My mom would never sing a Beatles song, didn't like them. I, too have all of the albums and on vinyl and not just the US and the UK.
No matter what you think being a brit gives no one license to insult an American or any other country. It just shows a lack of compassion.
i would never insult a country for that would be insulting a piece of rock and earth, and i would never do such a ridiculous thing, i have nothing against you personally, and i apologise for insulting you, although i didnt insult you directly...did i?
cant i merely insult a shit song by PM without being harassed by the obsessive fans!
i love the beatles and some of PM's stuff, even though John and George were my Favourite Beatles and Solo artists...
Shall I remind you of what you said? Here it goes "I'm and idiot....your american!
You bunch of arrogant, self-important, globalising bastards" If that is not an insult than what is it? I am not any of those and can throw back being an idiot for making assumptions about someone YOU don't even know. I don't like a lot of my countries policies either and despise my President.
Yes you can say all you want about a song but be prepared to get comments back when people don't agree with you.

Yes this song is so banal. It only portrays the most important concept known to man from our Declaration of independence:
This is my right. A right given by God. To live a free life. To live in freedom.
If anyone tries to take it away he'll have to answer. Cause this is my right.
Those words are beautiful and profound. And especially at this time and then we needed to be reminded of them.

I was referring to Paul Mcartney
123strauss 3 years ago
I think you have forgotten the nature of the song
He's not singing about how he's american
he's singing about 9/11
He obviously is supporting the states to keep them together in times of Need
GreenerOnTheOthersid 3 years ago
the nature of this song is how to make a one line chorus last for 7 minutes.

One of the greatest songs ever written. I think about Ron Paul when I hear it, and his revolution to win back Liberty in our country.

What a perfect song! Too bad that its tightly connected to USA. Land of the free, you can do anything what is said to be free. :)
SepuLaci 4 years ago
its a great sentiment, he saw the towers go down from a window. we may have freedom, but some dont, and thats what the song is about, we all have the birthright to have freedom, and damn it fight for it!

fuzzmaniac 4 years ago
Plus this song is shit, its so banal, and just so badly written, he just keeps saying 'Freedom' in a number of vocal ranges then sings that old cliched lyric "I will fight for the right"
a very very bad song, if only he could revert back too his Wings or Flaming Pie periods!

I think this song is on a level with his classic stuff.... done under pressure too, nice accomplishment... I just wish that John could have been around to add some lyrics...

To: jimmys2007abc- Your Profanity is not worthy of a reply&I know Paul McCartney would agree. He is a gentleman.StudyEnglish,19yr.youngBrit.Iam57yr.Professional Musician close to Paul's age,-Mycomment "Musical Colleague" was used in senseofcommonality.Definition in Webster's New World Dictionary:"Fellow Worker In The SameProfession" YOU do Not know me, a Lady, &I have several 'Musical colleagues & Friends.-pennymusicMAma
pennymusicMAma 4 years ago
Well if i'd realised your age i wouldnt have sworn....i'm not accustomed too swearing at people nearing 60....sorry for that, he's hardly a gentlemen, he was the source of John Lennon's pain, he was a selfish idiot during the end of the beatles days when brian epstein died he took over and John said "we were sick of being sidemen for paul".....lets just say im not a PM fan!

I don't think you can overstate just how McCartney helped pull this country together after 9/11. With the concert for New York and performances such as this the man was(and is) downright inspiring.

Funny how it was abrit too pick you up 'America'
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
Yes, a brit with American ties (uh remember Linda, his kids?) who happened to be on the tarmac at JFK and saw the towers get hit.
beatlechick1 4 years ago
Right i don't care anymore, this was ages ago, he was a talented Beatle, as a solo artist (Not so great)....the point i was trying too make that was John was a bigger Beatle and a more Talented Solo artist...
also i hate americans that like the beatles, because us brits are like "Yeah the beatles were cool" americans are like "THE BEATLES I WANT TOO FUCK THEM!"
its like calm down!
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
You're an idiot. I have been a Beatles fan since 1963. No one that I know ever wanted to "FUCK THEM" as you say. From what I have seen, the brits reacted to them just like everybody else did, especially the women.
You are wrong about John. They were all equally talented. If they weren't, we would not be having this discussion. There would be no you vs us.
You calm down and not stir the waters anymore. Allow those of us who are Beatles and Macca fans enjoy this.
beatlechick1 4 years ago
I'm and idiot....your american!
You bunch of arrogant, self-important, globalising bastards...
And you say "Allow those of use who are beatles and macca fans enjoy this"
Well i'm a huge Beatles Fan, every album, even those strange past masters albums and the capitol albums.
Its just when i listen too this song, i wonder how the beatles even come about, and i start thinking "Wow, John and George must have been doing all the writing"...this song is quite literally terrible.
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
And you start too think
"Maybe he did die and was replaced by a lookalike-soundalike"
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
You may not like the song Freedom but some do. It represents a time of healing for what happened on 9/11. No, not one of his best songs, not even close but for those of us who had to witness the planes hitting buildings and people jumping to their death instead of waiting to burn to death, this song represents something that helped us start to heal.
beatlechick1 4 years ago
My dear, I am no nationalist, i hate the UK (would a nationalist say this....no!)
Infact hates a strong word, i more disapprove of our foreign policies, as i do with america, you say that i show lack of compassion, well i say your the idiot for making an assumption about someone you dont even know, now lets get back too Paul McShitney, maybe the song 'Freedom' helped out all you 9/11 people, but would you have survived had it not been for this song....yes you would...silly comment!
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
Yes, I know we would have survived but it would have taken a bit longer to start to heal had it not been for Paul and his friends for the Concert for NYC where this song debuted. This song just represents that. I never EVER said we would not have survived. I said we started to heal. Silly comment back to ya!
beatlechick1 4 years ago
Well its a sticky situation, of course your allowed your opinion, but im also allowed my opinion and you having a go at me for my opinion is a bit wrong, i called your country and its leaders those things, i didnt call you them, so its not an insult, if you are self-important and are arrogant then you are a bastard, but not knowing you, i cant make that assumption, can we agree too disagree, i dont particularly like this song, you do....
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
I don't care that you don't like this song but when you make assumptions, be prepared to back them up. I don't love this song, it's only okay but we needed some cheering up during a terrible time. And when you generalize a whole country, you are generalizing the people as well as the leaders. I have good English friends living in the States or UK, friends from all over the world. I would never generalize the people for what the gov't does.
beatlechick1 4 years ago
Also you say you have been a fan since 1963, how old were you 6, i think maybe your telling a porky, i have a 6 year old brother and have had other 6 year old brothers and sisters, and none of them, i mean none of them, have even given music a thought at 6 years old, and now theyre 12 and 17, and they are huge music fans, admit it, you didnt start liking them until later on, maybe you heard mummy listening too them over the radio while doing the washing up, but didnt pay much attention....huh?
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
My dear, you have no idea who you are fighting with. In 1963 I was a bit older than 6. My mom would never sing a Beatles song, didn't like them. I, too have all of the albums and on vinyl and not just the US and the UK.
No matter what you think being a brit gives no one license to insult an American or any other country. It just shows a lack of compassion.
beatlechick1 4 years ago
i would never insult a country for that would be insulting a piece of rock and earth, and i would never do such a ridiculous thing, i have nothing against you personally, and i apologise for insulting you, although i didnt insult you directly...did i?
cant i merely insult a shit song by PM without being harassed by the obsessive fans!
i love the beatles and some of PM's stuff, even though John and George were my Favourite Beatles and Solo artists...
jimmys2007abc2 4 years ago
Shall I remind you of what you said? Here it goes "I'm and idiot....your american!
You bunch of arrogant, self-important, globalising bastards" If that is not an insult than what is it? I am not any of those and can throw back being an idiot for making assumptions about someone YOU don't even know. I don't like a lot of my countries policies either and despise my President.
Yes you can say all you want about a song but be prepared to get comments back when people don't agree with you.
