i think 3d is going to be very useful in gaming, because you can perceive how far something is and it hepls a lot in games, thats why im going to buy 3ds. other thing that i like is a system that a friend of mine has on his pc that turns on a pair of fans attached in the upper side of each speaker when, for example, a car comes near you, or when you are at a roof on a windy day, but that inly works if you do sth first with a pc program
Also you can be converted to 3d and can be very convincing, it however is a long and expensive process (James Cameron is currently doing this for Titanic and says to do it well would cost at least $15 million for it to be done right).
A good example of 3d that you didn't mention is HTTYD, and Resident Evil 4. But I agree if they keep up with poor conversion 3d might not take off. However warner has gone back and done further work on clash for the 3dbr, and have shown more care recently.
Just a fyi. The Avengers is bieng shot in 3d, not converted. Autostereoscopic 3d displays are bieng development but is a while off still. You really need to deffrentiate 2d to 3d conversions, and films shot in 3d. Also Alice In Wonderland was part 2d, part true 3d (the cgi was made in real 3d, the live action was shot in 4k, aside from the begining and end in the real woirld was shot via panvision 35mm). Although it was always planned for 3d.
I think both have their own pro's and con's. 3D in some movies has been fantastic while others it seems they used it as a gimmick selling point and nothing more. It is how the 3D is used that makes or breaks a project. Think about Universal Studios and how some of the rides there are done in 3D, particularly Spiderman. That is a great example of 3D done right. I'm excited for some games like Killzone 3 to see how it works. If it is good, I'm sold on the idea, if not then movies only it is.
i say 2d but just cuz i have glasses and its hard to watch and enjoy a movie with 2 pairs of glasses, my relatives say it looks awesome but i was limited to avatar in 2d

@TheMarkspartan i agree with you. i can't watch 3D because of my Glasses. once i went to Best buy and the guy showed me a 3D TV. he said it is awesome i tried it and i couldn't see and i got a headache after looking at it for a minute or so.

James Cameron has shown 3D can coexist with ANY film / TV show. I'm sure there was people waaaay back in the day complaining about the Sound and Color.
What I don't like is films being retrofitted into 3D. Its like taking a black & white classic and adding color to it. To me that's disingenuous of the studio heads.

About 3D being a gimmick, for some movies yes, but animated movies(toy story 3, how to train your dragon, ect.) and anything that was filmed that way from the start(avatar, ect.) always pull it off. But then you have the movies that throw some crappy effects in really fast just so they can put "3D" in the title. And 3D video games, haven't tried them because when I wanted to test it a best buy someone had stolen the glasses. This is better than the crappy red/blue 3D of the '90s

I agree with you guys completely, Holly wood needs to start putting effort into their movies not just make these scripts that a monkey could write up in an hour, shoot them and then put 3D into it in post production. It's fucking annoying, and yet every one still goes and watches it..
@3killabytes Avatar wasnt filmed per se. It was mostly computer generated. So the didnt need the special cameras to film it in 3D. I do agree with you guys that with your video. Im just saying comparing it to other films isnt fair because of that

I think the best way to settle this argument is to agree that 3D is a working progress. The sad thing is that if we want 3D to succeed we'll have to endure a lot more Clash of The Titans in order to get a line up of Avatars or How to Train Your Dragon.
The problem isnt that the 3d takes work to get right. So far the only movies that really screwed it up are the ones that were in the final stages of production when 3d became "cool" so they threw it together really quick and made 3d movies look bad in general.

I have a feeling 3D will take over. James Cameron guessed right in 10 years everything will be in 3D... The big companies keep pushing 3D forward and eventually you're gonna buy a new TV. Coraline was done in 3D, i thought it was done well, see when 3d comes into the picture too many of the scenes are done or angled for that purpose and frankly it looks crap on 2d and 3d, its about having a balance dont blame 3d if it actually had more good films behind it then it would be so much better, 3d films generally suck cause the film its self sucks!
Depends if the 3D film is like Tron or Avatar then yes 3D is great but anything else I'd rather see 2D

Saw the calender with out even purchasing it.. that being said, i DO recommend purchasing it for everybody else.. people like me are too poor because of college and monthly bills too be donating money.

3d is just for movies to make more money. I like 2d movies over 3d. I didn't watch Avatar because the movie looks like its gonna suck. The visuals look good but the movie itself looks like complete shit.

The idea of a 3d movie that is something of the horror, romance, or even comedy genera catagories is absolute blasphemy. But the thought of Heavy Action or sci-fi seems to be the only way 3d could live up to its purpose....'to put the observer IN the movie... IN the action'. Romance?... really?... about as IN to it as you can get is freggin sex scenes....
3d pornos..... hmmmmm..... thoughts on that from you three?....

Gimmick for most movies. Amazing for the films with a good plot, good acting and amazing visuals. You are right. Avatar is the only one.

I have a feeling 3D will take over. James Cameron guessed right in 10 years everything will be in 3D... The big companies keep pushing 3D forward and eventually you're gonna buy a new TV. Games, shows, movies all in 3D... Honestly I'm fine with 2D and don't feel like there needs to be this huge change, but unfortunately 3D will take over.

There were more movies that pulled off 3D great like Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs did it great but theres a ton of movies that are doing it for the heck of it, i am annoyed of it and just want 3D movies that were made to be 3D

Coraline was done in 3D, i thought it was done well, see when 3d comes into the picture too many of the scenes are done or angled for that purpose and frankly it looks crap on 2d and 3d, its about having a balance dont blame 3d if it actually had more good films behind it then it would be so much better, 3d films generally suck cause the film its self sucks!
