The play i'm in that you got me, "a month of summers" Its a gay play, i gotta play a gay with another gay, acting all gay, all through the..play-ss-ss..its SO gay.
How do you keep a straight face when one of the most revered actors of the genre is saying, "And you would learn the words, you would not have the script on the night; and that goes for everybody! There will be no scripts on the night! You learn the words!"
This one take would have taken me a month to shoot because of laughter.
I like how we learn that Darren thinks Tom Hanks is gay. Nice and subtle humour and a good example of the thin line between fact and fiction that Gervais, like a tightrope, tends to walk in both Extras and The Office. I think by that he has taken comedy to a next level with these two series, almost like Cervantes and his Don Quichote did with literature. (I'm sure Ricky would appreciate that comparison :)
@utdfortreble From wikipedia: "In May 2003 while wrestling with Ricky Gervais in his front room, Iain caused a back injury to Gervais, who consequently mentioned the events leading up to the injury and the pain he was suffering on his XFM Radio show. Gervais's girlfriend was videotaping the incident, but to date no copy of this footage has emerged."
What's ironic of course is that Andy thinks he understands McKeelan's obvious point about acting but is in fact unable to "act gay" and therefore fails the most basic test of acting, i.e. pretending to be someone else.
@belisariusorb Andy knows what acting literally is but he's too shallow to be a true actor (which is why he chooses fame over integrity). That's why he didn't play gay because he was embarrassed to do it in front of the cool guys from school.
even tho ian mckellan is portraying an idiot like Patrick Stewart did it's done in a way which doesn't feel cheap, like it isn't Jay leno going PIE IN THE FACE to make a few cheap laughs lol
@NaturalBornHedonist but his lack of presence is what makes his jokes funnier like chris in family guy he rarely gets a joke but the ones he does are the best
"you used still....sparkling"..the best comedy is the comedy that is on its way but you dont have a clue, not until WHAM! and you laugh so much you watch it again in case you missed something or is it just me, and you laugh louder and harder........funny as fuck
OMG the fizzing part when Andy tries to chat up that woman was hilarious! I rarely laugh out loud when I watch shows even when I think they're funny but that bit just had me in stitches. Wow.
I love it when british people assume that we (americans) don't get the more "humourous" parts. Of course we understand the joke. We get it. It's funny. Both parts are funny. Obviously, the bottle bit is more slapstick, but funny none the less. And please, join the rest of the world, and spell humor the same way, you smug basterdddz
Usually, the outtakes and bits of ricky gevais busting a gut over some inanity are far more amusing than the show itself; but the bottle bit is awesome. oh, and kate winslet giving phone-sex tips while dressed as a nun - "i'm fudding myself senseless and i'm bloody loving it!!!"
This is by far my absolute favourite episode. Maggies line about eating soap, the way Darren messes up the chat-up lines with Maggie, and Andy choking on the water... and then the hideous end to a date that seemed to be going so well *lol*
