  • it's always nice to hear from reasonable people. thanks 4 your comment.

  • This song was written in 1857, 4 years before the war started. It was written by northerners and loved by northerners, such as Abe Lincoln himself, and southerners alike. Emmett, who wrote the song, was pretty taken back when the Confederate Army made it their marching song, because he never had any pro-secessionist sympathies. He even tried to change the lyrics to the song because of the Confederacy's use of it. This song was never intended to concern a "confederacy," so enjoy it as such.

  • As a British person, I guess I don't have the historical baggage that northern Americans have when it comes to stuff like this - but I love this song. It really is the best of American folk songs.

  • @RebelSoldat1 "Pathetic little Germany?" So pathetic, they controlled almost the entire European continent, twice? Oh yeah, really pathetic.

  • @tidewaterboy1 Well only once - in WWI they didn't win very much of Europe, but I'll give you WWII!

  • @RebelSoldat1 I am a Southerner, I would just like to clear some things up... Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers. The United States is not, and has never been, a nation. We are a Union of fifty sovereign States.

  • Faithful to Virginia!

  • you do realize this is the Yanks version?

  • The KKK will never be true Southerners!

  • @WesternWarrior93 On your comment about any euro country supporting the south, Britons did send ships to the south, but the north cut them off

  • I only disliked this because of 1:21 and 2:51

  • flag*

  • As long as a live that fla will ALWAYS fly above my head

  • God I love my country, burn those dirty stars and strips boys and fly those stars and bars.

  • @XGDRabidPanda You do realize that the flag you speak of is the flag of the army of northern virginia? A southern army yes, but not the flag of the Confederacy. The flag of the Confederacy was a variation of the stars and strips.

  • @ppirtj It is a battle flag, it was flown in Kentucky by the orphans!

  • anyone that dose not like the song dixie has a mental problem.

however we don't need trash added to it in any form

even A FELLOW CALLED ABE SHOWED RESPECT. from an ohioian

  • @me55555able greetings from tennessee :)

  • @me55555able I agree. I have a great respect for Abe Lincoln because he wasn’t fitting to make an oppressed people follow his orders; he was fighting to keep a grate nation together so that the issues coed be fixed in doo time.

  • why the hell is the a KKK pic in this video?

  • @TheWhatdoesthatmean yea that racist to me...as well pride not predjustice

  • @TheRecluse68 if all great soldiers were from the south, u would have one the civil war dipshit

  • @kidproblem1 And if all smart people were from the North, "you" would have no trouble spelling "won".

  • @kidproblem1 we would have won the civil war if there had been a civil war.

  • @kidproblem1 It wasnt the soldiers, the south had fantastic generals. Just millions less people to spare. They ran out of dudes by 1865

  • BTW is this the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?

  • I know its bad to have slaves but abraham lincoln wanted to change something that was going on for 300 years without anyones say!

  • Mentions slavery, education, high school/ grade school reference and research. Ummmm..... it couldn't be a sock puppet from you know you, could it? Naaaahhh.... no way! Lmao, again. Nice try buckwheat.

  • The Soviet Union is defiantly the Best country

  • @TheSovietEmperor19 Yea, that is why it collapsed.

  • As a northerner (Minnesota) I can admit that the South had a right to secede and was being threatened by Northern aggression politically. However, I also believe the Union's being held together was a good thing and that it was sad that the South had to leave to try to protect its interests.

  • nobody dislikes anything or person because of the color of their skin most people simply do not like the barbaric or primitive and violent , uncivilized behavior or culture that is associated with that color of skin.

  • @heyBUYthisNOW but the problem is, is that they associate barbaric or primitive and violent, uncivilized behavior or culture with skin color. None of that has anything to do with skin color. There are barbaric, uncivilized people of all races, and civilized people of all races.

  • @warblerab im glad someone finally sees it that way i try to explain that to people because my word for people who cannot behave civilized is nigger but people automaticly think im raciest even though it has nothing to do with race.

  • @heyBUYthisNOW I won't automaticly think you're a racist(I'd need to know a lot more about you to say that), but I think the n-word is very, very offensive. I will never use it.

  • @heyBUYthisNOW race is way more than skin colour.

  • we fought britan for taking total power then the north forces the south to join or die.... ironic.

  • 150 years ago the dough sead fuckoff... We met it.

  • your from the north....sucks for you lol

  • *Is listening to song as a piece of southern heritage and beautiful music* 1:21 pops up.

This is why we can't have nice things!

  • @historybuff5341 KKK was rage guys who wanted south win. Deal with it.

  • @historybuff5341 And 2:51...

  • @DivingEag1e After the giant KKK I stopped watching the video and just listened to the music. o.o That's even worse!

  • @historybuff5341 That really pissed me off too -__-

  • I listne to this when i go on vacation and am away form home. (Tennessee)

  • Mt Founding Fathers didn't fight the Revolutionary War to preserve a "cornerstone" of white supremacism and slavery. The confederacy did. That's why confederates then and now hate America and my Founding Fathers, and support the racist hatemongers of the confederacy instead.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry that black kids pick on you at school, and no black girl will ever agree to fuck you, so you've decided to become a baby racist who hates Muslims, and America. It's sad. I can only hope that when you grow up, you realize that no one is inferior because of skin color or religion, and you learn to judge people on the content of their character instead. That's what it means to be an American. Then you would understand that the CSA was wrong to kill Americans to try to preserve slavery.

  • @RonPaulHatesBlacks You do realize many Southerners joined the Confederacy when Lincoln called for 80,000 volunteers, right? The Yanks came to kill Southerners. The South was trying to avoid war with the most powerful nation on earth. And now, look at you, you're resorting to hate and profanity.

  • Comment removed

  • @RebelSoldat1 I don't think the northern soldier wanted to kill southerner. They just wanted to preserve the union(in other words: the USA).

  • @warblerab The patriotic ones did, many of them were Irish immigrants who joined for food, others joined for the reward money, then deserted and re-joined a different unit under a new name to get more money.

  • @RebelSoldat1 perhaps some of that stuff did go on, but some joined to fight for their country. I am willing to bet that some even sympathized with that south's fight for the right to secede, but there home state was on the side of the Union, and they couldn't fight against their own state.

  • @warblerab That is probable. I imagine some Southerners, like Lee, wanted to preserve the Union but couldn't fight against their families. The comment that I made that is now top comment was mainly pointed toward the Northern leadership.

  • @RebelSoldat1 The most powerful nation on Earth? That's a bit of a claim considering you had the United States split in two, thus deriving it from some of it's old power. Also. you had the massive and highly militarized armies of Imperial European powers like Britain, France and Russia. the United States was no where near the strength of some of it's European counterparts and calling the U.S. the "most powerful" nation on Earth at the time is incredibly incorrect. If any European nation had

  • @RebelSoldat1 supported the South, then the United States would've likely loss the war and the south would've gained Political Autonomy.

  • @WesternWarrior93 I'm am talking about production capabilities. The North had a cheap labor force and machinery, and plenty of Irish immigrants to draft into the army. Thanks to new photography, British power was diminishing. We see the U.S.'s massive production capabilities in both WW1 and WW2. A current standing army doesn't count towards military supremacy. It is on the home front that a war is decided.

  • @RebelSoldat1 Production-wise your correct, the Northern United States was a incredible production power. However there are many forms of power and having massive production and a lot of men doesn't make the United States the strongest power. British power was far from diminishing in the American Civil War, Pax Britannica didn't end until 1914, which is considered the end of Britain's domination. Besides, Britain's economy was still larger by the Civil War, it's navy dominated trade routes and

  • @RebelSoldat1 protected routes to the Orient that allowed it to gain even more riches, Britain had such a incredible navy that they could easily have blocked any American port and strangled it into submission. Simply put, The U.S became one of the top powers after WWI and it became the strongest nation after WWII for those reasons you mentioned. America did become the greatest great power, but not in the 1860s.

  • @RebelSoldat1 Stop advocating South. Everyone who supports confederacy must be killed.

  • @GIHenry Death to us? Well, by looking at your channel, it does seem that you respect our armed forces. Did you know 65% of the U.S. military is made up of southerners? I bet you didn't know that. America's greatest soldier was a hillbilly, his name Alvin C. York. He single-handedly captured over 130 Germans, killed 30 Germans, all in one battle with nothing but a bolt-action rifle and a Colt .45.

And, anybody who says they want government control over the states is clearly an idiot.

  • @RebelSoldat1 The USA was´nt the most powerful YET by then!

    Don´t mind this guy!

  • @RebelSoldat1

The Yankees came to save the Union. The South was trying to keep slaves, even at the cost of a war with the most powerful nation on earth.

The South picked a fight to protect slavery. The North fought them because they were rebels.

TL;DR: You fell for Confederate revisionist history hook, line, and sinker.

  • @TheAdmiralPancake It was fought over northern predatory acts. The only thing more ignorant than these dumb ass rednecks are the morons who think the war was fought over just slavery. Go read a history book, you moron.

  • @Jdaddy997

Yes. The northern predatory act in question was that the South was afraid of them abolishing slavery.

Read a GOOD history book that does some research, not one full of revisionist history in a third-rate southern high school.

  • @TheAdmiralPancake FUCK YOU ADMIRAL PANCAKE you horny son of a bitch!

  • @RebelSoldat1 ummm u got the data wrong, 65% are not southerners. Even considering southern population and military personnel percentage, that is impossible.

Let me tell you this, only about 22% is southerner. Because TEXAS IS WEST NOT SOUTH! HAHAHA!

and 53% is notherner. get the data straight. idiot.

  • @GIHenry The Southern cross has 13 stars, not 12. The South and idwest have the highest civilian/military ratio. Oh, and I read a book ("A Sniper in the Arizona") about a Vietnam vet who was from the midwest, but he considered himself a Southerner. He said eveyone got killed or wounded except for the Southerners. When the Yankees got battle fatigue, the Southerners got combat addiction. I don't think that all America's greatest soldiers are from the South by coincidence.

  • @RebelSoldat1 "the most powerful nation on earth" HAHA, in the 19th century? Are you serious or just retarded? Britain was still the superpower/hyper-power. It's like comparing USA today with some African country.

  • @Moerdarvalen The British empire was in decline. They won the Zulu wars, but not before they had their asses handed to them by "savages." If you measure power by production capabilities, the U.S. would have exceeded the British on terms of power. Take for instance, the French during WW2. They had the largest standing army in the world, yet even with the aid of the British, their home country was occupied at the very beginning of the war, by pathetic little Germany.

  • @RebelSoldat1 The US wasn't the most powerful nation on earth at that time.

  • The north Aka government ask lee to fight for theme however had turned theme down cause the south was home and unlike now, in those days the went by honor and so he could not turn his back on the south. After the surender while Davis was running around in hiding lee was going around with union solders trying to restore peace, when lee returned home a photo was taken of him in uniform on his porch.. It be the last time he would wear the gray uniform. Why is lee so hated today if he was a man of

  • bout the governent and they feared freeing all slaves at once would destroy the south and it did. However the south was wrong to hold onto slavery so much. The south and the north both failed to negotiate to prevent war. In the end then like now the president is not only a man of power but a man of peace, a peacekeeper and lincoln had good ideas and was a good man on many levels but he failed to do HIS job of keeping the peace. The north Aka government ask lee to fight for theme however had tur

  • lovingly cared for by black woman and raised along side slave children) facts are by the founding fathers standpoint, the government didint have that power over the states to force change. I saw in a book onetime were befor the issue was talked about Lincoln met with federal judges who advised him ( whatever you do don't let it come to federal court cause you will loose on the grounds of it being unconstitutional) so the north was wrong for taking power away from the states, the south was right

  • If you used today's laws back then the government should have done what they do now, pass a law but grandfather in all the slaves that had been payed for and let theme be owned all there life but say all blacks born here are free and in 50 years all slavery would of been gone without war. Keep in mind 90% of slaves in the south were not mistreated or beat or starved. They were to important for the survival of the plantation, livestock, food, the plantation owners family's( many white children

  • Sending supplies to a federal fort happens every hour of every day. It's not an act of war.

The textbook method to start a war is to violate our Constitution, seize our property, and open fire on our troops. If the Nation of Islam secedes tomorrow, seizes American property, begins enslaving white people, and opens fire on American soldiers, We the People would be under no obligation to negotiate with them. We would simply stomp the racists into the ground. Either you love America or you don't.

  • Comment removed

  • @RebelSoldat1 America ended the international slave trade 50 years before the Civil War, dummy. No Southern slave in 1860 had been enslaved by Africans.

My Founding Fathers didn't fight the Revolutionary War to try to preserve a "cornerstone" of slavery and white supremacism until the end of time. Yours did. That's why you hate America and support the confederacy instead. And that's why you lose, little boy. You don't believe slavery is wrong. You're sick.

  • well JWFUSA i Say go Confederacy because the south will kick the Norths ass up and down the street because the South Contributed the most soldiers to the US military and the Southerners have 3 guns per person while the union has 1 gun to 3 people so yeah the union is screwed so your point is moot the South would win and it would have won the and Robert E. lee Freed his slaves before the war and Ulysses S Grant freed his after so choose your side wisely

  • @pattonfordo What the hell planet are you from?

  • and secession was not unconstitutional its right in the constitution that they have the right to secede.

  • yes and the confederacy was for states rights. the way it should be

  • GO UNION! Yankee fuckin Doodle!

  • RonPaul. You're completely wrong about Lincoln. Lincoln's personal diaries and his early speeches show that he was anti-slavery. He just wanted to keep the Union together and if it meant leaving slavery in the states he was willing to do it. The south succeeded because he was trying to stop the spread of slavery. Lincoln did NOT use the issue of slavery to keep europe out of the war, he used a blockade. Why don't YOU read a book!

  • @jwfusa You are completely wrong..when the emancipation proclamation was written it was done so to keep england out of the war..look at Lincolns proposed 13th ammendment stating that if the south would accept the 40% tarriff and not secede he wouldnt interfere with the issue of slavery..and he proposed that in march of 61..ft.sumter wasnt fired upon until april..so if it was over slavery why even fire a shot?..and just another tidbit of info..only 6% of the south owned slaves..

  • if it was my choice we would place them with the rest of the monkeys... IN THE ZOO.

  • @heyBUYthisNOW If it was my choice all of you euro trash would be shipped back to where ever that island you came from. hehehehe

  • the only difference from then till now is that back then they had to work to have a home and food and clothes now they get that for free so they got a pretty good deal out of it.

  • @Shutzenrifle your joking, right? I think you are the one that needs to get educated... -.-

  • @8ViperRKO8 *you're

  • @jwfusa sorry didnt know the grammer nazis were out :P

  • Fucking northerners.

  • We didn't abolish slavery quickly enough. Only one side has the blame in that.

  • What's with all the butthurt neoconfederates?

Let byegones be byegones. Lincoln was a good but flawed man, like most everyone else. The federal government was a bit oppressive, and the Southern states were far too trigger-happy about fighting it. Abolishing slavery was a good thing. We went about it far too quickly, and that's where our race relations problems come from. Both sides can share blame.

The slideshow is cheesy and the music is a reminder of a dying era. Enjoy it in peace.

  • Slaves did not receive their freedom until the war was underway (explain that if it was about slavery dingleberry). You Yankees still have trouble understanding this I know, but it is what it is! Booshwa said it the way it is so deal with it.

  • Slavery was just the primer for the War between the States (nothing civil about it). Northern oppression of Southern products to Europe, over-lording by the North and the anti-South government were what stirred the pot long before the fact of slavery became an issue. Your beloved Grant owned slaves and Stone Wall Jackson did not believe in it. The man called Lincoln chose to invade the Southern states and that is what started the war. Slavery was his excuse.

  • In the end it was all about slavery dude. And as far as Lincoln is concerned. He considered what the secession of the south was unconstitutional meaning he was only invading his own country. And he didn't fire the first shot! GO UNION

  • @jwfusa and ummm..dude..as you say so with such intillegence...the confederacy may have fired the first shot..but look at who commited the first act of war..the blockade was already going into effect before sumter was fired upon..the south secede lawfully under constitutional law as sat down by the founding fathers..sounds like you need to read a real historical accurate book instead of the politically correct garbage you fill your head with..i back up all i say with fact...

  • @jwfusa There are state laws and there are federal laws. The south felt that the north was infringeing on their state laws and felt strongly enough to fight for their rights. Slavery had very little do do with the war. Time, Diplomacy and modernization, could avoided they worst war in American history.

  • @fastacid714 Slavery had everything to do with the war. The South proudly said so when they started it. You really shouldn't lecture us about American history when you've never studied it in your entire life. And you shouldn't lecture us about the Civil War when you've never even read the South's own Cornerstone Speech or Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, or South Carolina declarations of secession.

  • @RonPaulHatesBlacks Maybe I don't know my history, or Southern history and maybe I souldn't even have an opinion. But my point was that there must have been a way to avoid this tradgedy The American Civil War.Do you disagree?

  • @fastacid714 Of course there was a way to avoid the Civil War. The southern states had thousands of legal and reasonable options after their preferred candidate lost the election of 1860. They could have chosen any one of them and avoided the Civil War. They also could have peacefully and voluntarily abolished slavery, like every Northern state did. Instead, they chose to secede, seize federal property, and murder American soldiers to try to preserve their "cornerstone" of slavery and racism.

  • Comment removed

  • Woah there killer lincoln didnt declare slavery abolished until after the civil war started and it was only abolished in the south which he had no more control over it was just symbolic. Slavery was abolished by the thirteenth amendment after the civil war. Secession was initiated just by lincoln being elected. Just Sayin.

  • to see the flag as purely racism and other such ideals is wrong. undoubtedly it is used by those who seek to advanced racist ideals but it is an important part of our history and therefor must not be ignored and forgotten.

  • This is one of the BEST renditions of Dixie. To Johnnyc, Lincoln said that if he could keep the union and slavery he would do it. He did not believe in the government that our founding fathers established, he did not believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, otherwise he would not have closed the free press or allow the military to arrest people and confiscate property without a warrant....he trampled the ideals of the founding fathers.

  • @RobertCeltic Lincoln didn't start the war. You did, to preserve your beloved slavery, as you proudly said in your Cornerstone Speech and declarations of secession. And no one closed the free press, suspended habeas corpus, arrested people, and confiscated property more than the confederacy, and all without holding even one election for your president. You hate Lincoln for the same reason We the People honor him---he freed the slaves and kept you from owning and raping black people today.

  • Comment removed

  • @OtmShank02 I don't think they "forget" that point---I don't think they ever knew it. These racists are ignorant. The vast majority of them never graduated high school, never went to college, never studied American history, and never did any research at all before deciding to slurp the slaveowners. They're dumb racists. Once people go to college and get out in the world, they quickly realize that all men really are created equal, and that slavery is wrong. Education is the antidote to racism.

  • @RonPaulHatesBlacks The war is over and done. The music never owned a slave or raped anyone

  • @blubonnet52 World War II is over and done, too. So what? Am I allowed to say the Holocaust was wrong?

  • @RonPaulHatesBlacks I have a, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and a Doctorate and I still believe in States rights and my family that fought in the War between the States did not hold to or adhere to slavery, but believed very much in States rights. History is always written by the victors and if you had an education you would now that.

  • @jimmymcmi: If you had so many degrees you would know how to spell "know".

  • @Schmidtah I type faster than my brain works on occasion, but at least my brain works!

  • @jimmymcmi If you are as educated as you say then you would know the Civil War was fought over slavery. The idea of states rights being the foudation of the Civil War came some years afterwards when a new generation of southerners agreed with the rest of the world about the wickedness of slavery. Allow me to quote Vice President of the Confederacy Alexander Stephens, "Our nation is founded on the principle truth, that the negro is unequal to the white man."
