i had a cassette release of this album which had *a stack* of bsides on side b of the tape. searching online - all the disogs seem incorrect. creature from black lagoon was one song... tropic of cancer... seeing is believing... i'd love to get hold of those songs again
@tasimana I can't understand why it didn't chart either. The few reasons I can think of is that radio probably wouldn't have given it any air time, as it's really quiet flat & does have the power of Barbados of OOMOOS. This is a song that has to grow on you over time & doesn't have instant hit written all over it. It was also the last single released from the OOMOOS LP, in Dec. '85 & by then has perhaps run it's course?
Hi too all who read this ,he was a great man with a brilliant mind and sole one of the most ground braking song writer's in Australian music ,80,90s Barbados -modern girl, two cabs to the toucan,Out of Mind, Out of Sight, are in the 80s hall of fame...
make no mistakes about this man with his looks moves and charisma will always be unmarketable brilliant , the hard knocks were never taken lightly
This is a beautiful song & an awesome video clip. I'm sure that is Wendy Matthews singing backup vocals & one of the kids in this clip is Noah Taylor (the actor)???
I was confused by this because I never got the complete lyrics back in the 80s, and so I thought it was a more Christian oriented song (not that there was anything wrong with that, even tho' I'm not Christian). Just not what I expected. Now I see it was a little, um, more complex than that. I love this band all the more now. Had no idea their lyrics were so sublime...
thanks for posting this. always loved this song. models were such an interesting tussle of the pragmatic/populist james freud and brooding poet in sean kelly. i'm glad it gave sean a vehicle to make music like this and get it out there.
@ffnarffnar I have copies 2 of the vinyl and 2 cd's if you like one i would gladly send one. Anybody likes this song should have a copy. Do prefer records or cd.
Sean Kelly was in pretty limited company back then for lyrics and songs like this. He did this before Band Aid stuff came out. Mind you, I don`t mind a bit of ACDC innuendo in lyrics either, "Let me cut your cake with my knife...etc". Variety is the spice of life....
@levitatingbluecat Yes, according to the picture sleeve of the 7" single, it says that all proceeds were donated to the Salvos. I also read that when Sean was younger, he went through a rough patch and the Salvos helped him out - to which he was eternally greatful for. To this day, I still don't understand the actual meaning behind this song, the lyrics are confusing, & the video makes it even more confusing. FANTASTIC SONG though, both versions of it.
a young Noah Taylor can be seen..

one of the better Models songs of that "latter period".

Agreed. That's because this was a Sean Kelly song, not a James Freud one.

Oh Lord of all creation
Herald missiles hide and seek
Bloodshed and satellite beams
I pray my soul to keep
How's that for brilliant lyrics! One of my all-time faves, along with Stormy Tonight.

True, royalties went to the Salvos for this one.
Sean Kelly is magnificent.

Thanks nzoz1985, it's a sublime song. I'm pretty sure that Sean Kelly donated the proceeds of that track to the Salvation Army.

wow... that's nice of him! i've always liked this track - it made up greatly for the other two singles they released in that year!
Babados is great, 'out of mind', oh no!

@levitatingbluecat ...you are 100% correct. That was a Christmas gift for the Salvos. I remember this when it first came out - blew my mind.

@levitatingbluecat You're right he did just read that in James' book last night.
