  • the mercurial flow of lingala is not detected

  • Sam is from Kenya

  • to correct your statement Samba is from Kenya by way of Congo, he came to Kenya in his late 20's, actually first to Uganda when he founded Orchestra Virunga. He didn't speak Kiswahili or English until then.

He is born in Matadi, Congo near the border with Angola, from Bakongo heritage, and speaks in order of acquision the languages of Kikongo, Lingala, French, Kiswahili, English.

    Thank you

  • he is at the same time a gift of the Bakongo, a gift of the Congolese, a gift of Uganda, Kenya, the entire Greats Lakes, and African music at large, their are only a few other people we can say hold those titles, people such as Sam Magwana, Franco, Femi Kuti, who culturally transcend their tribe, country, and region within African music, justt transcending your tribe and country is usually hard enough

  • El que tenga el video de la cancion "Kaa Chonjo" de esta Orquesta Samba Mapangala y Virunga que lo suba aqui en youtube estaria haciendo un gran favor porlo menos que lo tenga en concierto...

  • i though it is too heavy, base abd vocal

  • all I can say is that I loved and miss eating Nyama Choma.

  • Yo fuck all the technicality of origins of instruments or whatnot, this song is hot. Period.

  • thank you for solving the problem in one stroke.

  • nkombo nangai ni mwana mbuta ya Kiafrica ya mashariki. Aksante, na nyimbo kama sabuni ya roho

  • Musicologists say guitars came from India to Greece. Modern guitars from Spain had Arabic origins. There is also a West African instrument called the Kither. Flamenco guitar is plucked like the kora. The modern guitar came into Africa via Angola. Popular dance guitarists from Africa, especially Congo, have been the greatest in the world for the last 50 years. Daly Kimoko, the guitarist on this, is slick as a stick, one of the top 5 Congolese guitarists who emigrated to Paris in the 80s.

  • Check out the guitar playing of Stanley Jordan on you tube, patticularly "Stanley Jordan is GCD"

  • Wait, where is this dude from?? I like....the bottle dancing though is from Kenya Noh?

Oh, and maceike, string instruments arent new to Africa...zunde, orutu, azande, ganda, oud, kora, ngoni etc etc I could go on for pages..even the banjo (essential to American bluegrass music) is of African origin. So lets not argue and just enjoy the music that the 20th century and its cultural collisions has brought us!!

  • Lol! manze hii vid ni safi. Samba unatuakilisha!!

  • I goes to show that music is an emotional subject.thanks for the history lessons guys..now lets enjoys the beauty which is music

  • some people like maceike are just trying to suggest that europeans are superior thats what the big deal is about.

  • theres always someone who says this shit when everyone else is discussing important topics. It's just like when people tell you that their neutral in an argument. Who wants to hear that? get an opinion and make it known

  • pongezi sana Samba Mapangala, wewe ni wetu !!

  • maceike, what's that got do with anything?

  • uh? Je vous sais? if u read above u'll see (hopefully). But in case u don't. I'm not tryin 2 provoke anyone... I was giving credit where it was due. What if someone said the best soukous is from America? Not true... right? So I clarified. Music is great but best of all, it carries on history. Know the history of your music.

  • actually, what engendered the guitar was based on string instruments from west africa that have been in existence since ancient times. Look at the Ngoni of west Africa, the ancestor of the present day banjo. The African Moores brought these instruments and more along with them when the controlled spain for 4 centuries. I think you should know your history bud.

  • (yawns). While the american banjo is based on W. African gourd guitar, the stringed instruments of africa came from the middleeast. I belive Iran has been associated w/ string instruments the longest. there r many string instruments (harp, violin, cello), but we're talkin bout the guitar (electric & accoustic to be exact) which was introduced to iberia by moors (original moors north african/arabic). Guitar = guitarra. Thats how we have "today's guitar".

  • the string instruments of africa were mainly introduced by d migrating muslims 4rm the north. The modernized guitar came 4rm the "spanish" moors/gypsy but boomed thanks 2 traveling afros & afro-latinos who came back 2 africa 4rm latin america during & after slavery. Not putting anybody down. Its great 2 have pride in ur music, but not 2 the point that u diminish others contributions 2 it. Music is very genorous, it has alot to give. Its like a spice rack (u can mix spices into different dishes).

  • (extra long yawn). maceike, boy are you a self-righteous bore. Do u think we came here to get a lesson of the history of guitar. Glad to see that u have high self- esteem though.

  • that asshole is suggesting that becuase the guitar in african music doesn't sounds like classical guitar music that it's less. Classical music and african music are two totally different genres.I'm tired of people with this shitty colonized ideas!

  • @meceike wat do u mean guitar is new to african?

  • It is. Let me clarify 4 u. When I say new, I don't mean last year. Africans started incorporating the guitar in music once merchants & countries started colonizing the continent. Even after its introduction it didn't really become popular till like the mid 1900s, etc (maybe earlier).

  • viva musica let dem know who rules dis world wen it comes to great guitar licks

  • who? I hope your referring to the spanish, cuz it ain't africa. The guitar is a new instrument to africa. These licks sound good, but you need to look up some classical guitar and check those licks out. Incorporate those with the african rythm and you'll have a modern masterpeice.

  • can you please end your youtube account. You sound like any other white person out there. Seriously just FUCK off. Just stop with all your Shit. Why do you think samba mapangala has been rocking the charts even before you were able to start running your mouth! Just fuck off

  • ok this is a little bit extreme sorry guys but i was just pissed off with everything maceike was saying about african music.
