  • How many exams are there and how much needed for a pass in Essentials and Technician Exam?

  • @y0Arrow There are two exams and you need a score of 675/900 on the Essentials and a score of 700/900 for the Practical Applications test.

  • Honestly this exam is actually useless.. I lot of companies/agencies look at this as worthless

  • if you fail, do you have to buy another copy of the exam

  • @2003emachine Usually, but sometimes CompTIA will offer a second change program. Check out their website to see what they're running at the time.

  • Fantastic...Thank you very much for all the information.I am impressed

  • How many questions can i answer to pass both A+ and N+?

  • @Djkeyny Thats a bit of a fail question, you need to aim about scoring and scoring right. Not about answering a certain number. He already covered what score you need for A+, for N+ you need a score of 720/900

  • do you need to do the course for the exam? is the 180$ for the exam alone?

  • I just passed the first portion of the A+ but have to take the second part they referred to as "Hands on". The first multiple choice section was super vague at points and I'm concerned about the hands on, can anyone give any insight as to what to expect?

  • HI I was wondering what is the best online course I can take for comTIA A+ certification? I am 16 years old and want to learn computer repair and thought that A+ certification is the best path to go to start fixing computers from home to make some extra money.

  • THE TEST IS A 199 BUCKS DUDE I BETTER NOT FAIL lol

  • can anyone tell me how the exam is taken i.e. is it written or on a workstation? and how long do you have to wait for your result and when do they award you certificate assuming you pased both exams(for 2009 220-701/702)?

  • I took my test back in high school and didn't pass the test. But I got hired after graduate from high school, work as Technology Service Specialist 2. Nice!

I'm a system admin in my highschool, and love to fix computer. I'm mainly study myself and read 3 books in my life.

    1. The Three Little Pigs

    2. House on the mango street

    3. FTM: read the fucking manual

  • Comptia A+ is not what it use to be, these "jobs" are difficult to get on a permanent basis, get ready to do a lot of Temp jobs (If Any), this industry is overated and saturated.

  • @urdynamix1 I've heard the same thing from a quite a few people. I'm 24, I dropped out of university because I couldn't cope. I'm now thinking of persuing a career in IT & I was thinking of this as a starting point. It's just tough to find good information on what courses to do and where in my country. Add to that the nature of the job market in IT. It doesn't matter what country you're in, Tech guys can rarely find permanent jobs. And that's really worrying.

  • @miscible21 You Have To Also Remember, It Doesn't Hurt To Have Some Of These Skill In Your Bag Of Tricks, But What Pisses Me Off The Most Is That These Companies Make it Sound Like Their's a Pot Of Gold On The End Of The IT Rainbow Accompanied By False Advertising, Like Any Other Company, They Need To Sell Paper Certifications At Any Cost, The Job Market Is a Very Different and Disappointing Place After The Facts, Lots of Tedious Temp Work (If Any), Very Little Perm Jobs (If Any),

  • @urdynamix1 Thanks for your reply. I'm keen to know what you're advice would be. You're obviously in the industry so your opinion is valuable. I've been looking online but I'm not sure of what information to trust. I'd prefer self study as I work part time and I don't earn much. I live in South AFrica and we have far too many fly by night IT colleges just waiting to pounce on the ill informed youth. What's the best way to go about getting certified?

  • Comment removed

  • @miscible21 I'm A+ Certified, But My Problem With This Certification Is That Is Vendor Neutral, The Job Market Is a Different Animal, Employers Very Often Want Specific Vendor Specific Skills Like Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, etc. Companies Use Hardware and Software Technologies From Specific Vendors, The CompTia Certifications Are Good Starting Point In Terms Of The Concept Behind IT, But Get Ready To Certify With a Vendor Specific Certification as Well Like Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, etc.

  • @K041A lies

  • taking the test this month

  • Please I would like to know. Is it worth it to have a Network Engineering Associate Degree with an A+ Certification on top??

  • @75davidfree Yes, in this day and age people need every sort of advantage they can get. I recommend at least a bachelor's degree, though. Like in other fields, certification is a way of staying sharp. Especially with our changing technology. I'll have my master's soon, but I'll still get certifications. The learning never stops in IT. You don't need a degree, what is needed is the mindset of constant learning, always cultivating your craft. There is no 100% mastery, there is only understanding

  • @anzwertree thats the truth if i ever heard it. thanks for reminding me to keep things in perspective

  • so basically this is similar to a certificate II in I.T

  • @mista1medel I did a Certificate II back in 1995 and this is much more comprehensive than that. Although a Cert II of course would have changed quite a lot since then.

  • @blade004

well im doing a cert II right now, im about to complete it in about 2 weeks, and a lot of these units cover what im doing now, i guess this is more in depth when it comes to hardware.

i still want to do this course though :)

  • @mista1medel Well yes, a lot of what you are doing now will be covered in CompTIA and the best thing is that what you learn in the Cert II will still be fresh in your mind for the CompTIA course :) I have been doing it on and off for a while now online because of working 10 hour days which often extend into 6 day work weeks so time for study is severely limited :( Wish i could go back to when i was younger and be able to study full time.

  • @mista1medel Just watched your Water Cooled PC video and it seems you got a hold of the same keyboard as me ;) Normally i used to only invest about $30 maximum for a keyboard in the past, but this illuminated Logitech is just great isn't it! :)

  • @blade004

    haha yea its great!

the week after i bought it they dropped the price by 25bucks though lol

  • @mista1medel Yeah i paid something like $150 for mine, but what i learned a very long time ago with PC technology (except peripherals) is that you never buy the latest if very little software supports the extra features. Such as with the GeForce 3 which at the time of its release a friend of mine went and bought one because Doom 3 was built around the power of that card, so he forked out $1,000 for the card only to find that by the time Doom 3 was released, the GeForce 3 was no good for it.

  • @mista1medel I used to own older systems such as the Amiga or C64 that would last me for years without the need for any upgrades, so when i had to leave the Amiga behind in 2000 (software for it had dried up) and went to the PC i found myself blowing a lot of cash for a good 5 years until i stopped with the whole thing and just settled for what i had. But of course, if you want to play the very latest games, you need a decent rig with which to do it ;)

  • @blade004

    hey thanks :)

i completly agree, as you said it does get extremely costly.

i have do admit im a bit of an enthusiast when it comes to computers.

i didnt always have a computer until recently so when it came to getting my first pc i wanted i it to be great.

6 years later and im stil trying to keep up to date with the latest hardware (if i can lol) by selling my old hardware to offset the cost.

  • @mista1medel But i must say that your Water Cooled system looks utterly fantastic!!

  • @blade004

im glad you liked my pc, ill be doing another video shortly after i upgrade my water cooling loop and mod the case a little.ill call it my uni holiday project :)

    cheers,

    take care

  • im in kaplan for cst is it worth it 10,000

  • i would like to take the course but im really fukin stupid about everythin else but computers does a comptia course provide me with the information to pass the test and be a certified it enginer?? HELP

  • @alfadhinio

I actually took both the 2009 exams and passed. its a piece of cake :) Although i did prepare for 3 months none stop, read about 5 different books, and took countless practice exams. do that and youll be fine :)

  • @KLJNHBUINOILNO Can you give me tips on how to pass the exam? What book you use to pass, and what practice exam did you look up? I need to pass it.

  • Taking Essentials tomorrow... :)

  • It just saying coming soon on your website.

  • @messibouti99 This video was created for the 2006 version. CompTIA has updated their exam to a 2009 version and we're working on creating a new course for that as well. Our hope is to have it out by August. We'll be updating this video as well.

  • So when can I order this, I really need to take this exam ASAP.

It just says COMING SOON on your website.

  • A+ is a joke. I read through different training books and hardly any of it is helpful in reality - Systems Administrator & PC Support Specialist II

  • i took the essentails test last monday and failed :(

but i've been studying and already have an appointment set for this coming monday. so hopefully i pass this time. they said i missed it by only a few questions. but still....very disappointing when you study so hard to not pass

  • @lalaworld186 I'm sorry to hear that. Did you take a practice test before taking the real one?

  • @TrainSignalInc yeah. but it's not helping because i still didnt pass. it's doubtful that i'll take it again. but who knows.

  • @lalaworld186 Did you take the 2006 or 2009 exam?

  • @TrainSignalInc i think it was the 2006. it was test 220-601 if that says anything.

  • @lalaworld186 Don't give up. :( these tests can be pretty hard sometimes.. Just study as much as posible and dont forget anything.. lol

  • @malchiah9090 lol yeah, def hard for me!! but my teacher recommended i take the 701 instead of the 601. so i will try it again. after this try though....idk if i can take this anymore! lol! it's driving me crazy!

  • @lalaworld186 Dont forget your CPUS!!!!!

  • @iliketodraw100 CPUS? what is it exactly? lol

  • @lalaworld186

Its not your fault. I dont test well either. I freeze up on tests even thought I know what I'm talking about.

  • I'm 14 years old and I'd like to take this exam, I've been studying for about 6 months, and my computer support teacher suggested that I do so. Problem is, the recession has made our family pretty hard on cash, and we can't afford for me to take both of the tests. Does CompTIA give some kind of discount for students? Thanks for the help.

  • I couldn't locate any student discounts on CompTIA's website. As the exams are administered through Prometric or Pearson Vue, you may also want to check with them.

  • @TrainSignalInc

Help Please give me a GOOD ADVICE.

I RED the WHOLE sybex A+ complete Study Guide 220-701 & 220-702.I Passed all 19 Chapters Test & memorized all the acronyms & what it stands for.Can I pass the 2010 Comptia 220-701 A+Essentials & 220-702 Practical Application Exam?

Will be able to the pass the 2010 comptia

  • We're not affiliated with Sybex so I'm not sure how well it fully prepares you.

  • Please give me advice. What book you recommend I should read?

I REALLY want to pass this exam. Please reply my friend.

  • I am looking for some way to pass this exam can you recommend me something?

  • yea you can get a discount if you're taking a course and usually provided by your instructor. I only have to pay $74 for each exam for the A+

  • Some technical colleges will give discounts on test taking. Your high school (or jr high) won't pay for this test for you. But some colleges do help you out...SOME. I had a friend who got all of his certification tests discounted through the school he was going to. I don't know if these discounts were through CompTIA or if the school just payed for part of the testing for its students.

  • What kind of salary could one with A+ technician certification make?

  • 45,000 a year :P

  • Really? I guess that's good. Maybe a degree with a few years of experience will increase it.

  • Im going to school for an associates in IT. iv been at it for 5 months now. but what i want to ask is do i still need this certification after i graduate or will my degree be enough.

  • The A+ certification is a longstanding one that is recognized all over the world. This plus a degree with make you a powerful candidate.

  • im planning on taking it this spring. and im only 17

  • @ShittyPunkVids you need to be 18

  • @sciencefreak2402

pretty sure you don't have to be 18 man. maybe to get a job as a tech, but theres no age requirement for the exam or cert.

  • I just took the 220-701 exam today and i passed with an 805 im only 20, its a basic exam it covers more on how to react with printers and customers i personally believe

  • Any tips for taking the test? I've been studying the Pearson Guide, Sybex, and Train Signal.

  • I got A+ certified a while back, also MCDST. I am now studying CCNA!

  • Congrats! How's the CCNA studying going?

  • This video was very informative, thank you!

  • Glad you dug it.

  • I'm Taking my first exam soon. (and yeah I'm a kid)

  • I am taking my first exam too, and i am 40.

  • Good luck to both of you! Let us know how it goes.

  • I heard there going to update the test aroind march!! I'm start hardcore reading my book!

  • The 600 series is no longer going to be available after Feb 28th. After that it will be the 700 series. In this series, the 701 Test is the Essentials test, and the 702 test is the Practical Application test. You pass these two Exams to become A+ Certified. It has most of the same material, except it will include some Vista, and I think Windows 7 questions.

  • is there a age requirement im am under 18

  • nope the minimum age is 16......

    ZENOS :)

  • I am going to make sure Im set first before I take my exam, going. I ll be starting a two month study session starting next week. i have all info I need now to to studying for the exam!

  • hi there my name is lio and i am in brasil and i am very intresting in computers sameone know if theres a way to bay any videos that teach like that one that we see now.... please if somebody know that guive a light. thank s every one.

  • You can get free A+ video course at Professor Messer's web site. Just google his name. Trainsignal is good, too. But if you don't have any money, try the Professer's site.

  • Nice, exactly what I was looking for in the first place. Thanks for the advice!

  • If i purchase the train signal dvd set for the IT exam if i watch and go over the material for 2 weeks do you think i have a shot at passing? I plan on studying for 6-8 hours a day for 2 weeks str8.....

  • yes

  • Very helpful - Thanks

  • Passing score for my test is 720

  • which test the 601? what parts were you possibly most focused in studying?

  • there is no 601, is called Essentials

  • The A+ Essentials Exam number is 220-601.

  • Really thinking about buying the package, till I saw it cost $300 :(. I havent taken the test yet, so might as well try first to see what happens. Then maybe come back

  • im trying to find out how i can get a copy of my a+ card it was lost recently, and nobody can seem to direct me in the right area.i would greatly appreciate your help with this thank you ery much

  • So to start with this certificate would be the best?

What about the other certificates I see for example MSCE or Cisco, etc, etc

  • Well, I've seen another kind of A+ certification course, and even downloaded the manual.. The problem with it was that it's covering old hardware and old OS'es. I prefer Win XP to any old 95, 95 or ME, even Vista. The CompTIA is going to give you the tools you need.

  • ya, i would say the A+, Net + , etc are entry level certs...you need a solid foundation of those before you can go on to MSCE, Cisco, and other certs.

  • Well all I have to say is...They did a typical job complicating things...

  • does this certification ever expire? awhile ago i obtained it when i was thinking about gettinh my mcse but didnt follow though. now i regret this and am going back to school. ill probably just buy a training disk since at one point i was certified but was curious if i have to retake the exam.

  • If you're already certified then you're good for life - Even if a new test comes out =)

  • No, your A+ and Network+ Certificate never expires. Even though OS's will change over time no matter what was covered when you took your exam, you will always be certified. These are rare to find (certifications you don't have to renew)

  • Well said. This video was very clear.

  • No, his rambling was annoying. TMI

  • Are you allowed to take multiple electives or can you only do one? All three of them sound appealing...can't really make up my mind. o_O

  • You can take all the electives if you wish.

  • hehe ill be taking the CompTIA A+ in my high school next year (10th grade)

  • Congrats! Always great to get a head start.

  • wow this is great, im going to be taking my course in college to study for it,

its $1000 bucks but its worth it, i love working with computers and helping people,

i hope i do good on the test, by the way i did buy an book from barnes and noble called comp tia A+ certification all in one desk reference for dummies, its an great book, has alot of info,

    thanks for the video,

    mike.

  • Hey, everybody. FYI I purchased the entire Train Signal catalog (52 CDs) in January, 2008. Since then I have been studying the videos everyday. It was the best purchase I have ever made. The staff at Train Signal is really cool. You can buy whatever videos you can afford, and later they will let you apply everything you spent toward the purchase of the entire catalog. Once you own one course, you will be so impressed that you want them all. It will take at 2+ years to work through the courses.

  • We definitely appreciate that :)

  • any body got ideas on lab sim software which im going to buy to pass as it gurantees or money return or someone got a better idea . i dont like books so i like online and simulation cd , u know what i mean guys like pass guarantee , cbt are these good , i want to stick to one resourse to pass .any advise plzz , no crappy answers and i want people to answer me those who have passed and what resource did they use. i want hands on practice as well .

  • I obtained my A+ certification towards the beginning of 2008, and I used a combination of Train Signal's CompTIA A+ Training course and working with my own computer. I know that's a shameless plug for Train Signal but that's really how I studied for the exam!

  • hi, I have another question (hope you don't mind)

I started in the ICDL course and I want to know its important and benefits, thanks in advance!

  • Thank you very much Sir!! have a good day.

  • I would caution anyone trying to study for one exam and not the other. If you feel comfortable with the material in the first exam then move onto studying for the second exam but there are no shortcuts. The way the exams are set up is you either know it or you don't, so make sure you're over prepared for both.

  • question I have to take both the essentials and tech exam within the next 2 months. I have study material for both exams but, I know that the tech exam is more in depth. Can I study the tech exam 602 material and still pass the 601 test without a problem.

  • if I took this degree, can I consider it instead of the university degree or I must have a uni degree beside MCDST and compTIA a+, do you know?

  • I would suggest a degree from a university/2 year school/tech school in addition to any certifications you would obtain. Most employers do not consider certifications as replacements for degrees. They usually see them as supplements to a college degree.

  • but can I found a job if I carry this certifications only?

  • You could find a job with the certification only, but it will be much more difficult. The hard truth is that employers will be looking at several candidates with similar resumes and when it comes down to selecting candidates for interviews more times than not they will give the nod to the candidate with some kind of degree and certification(2 year, tech school, or university) over the candidate with certification but no degree.

  • Thank you so much :)

  • They will give the nod to the person w/ the experience, over just a guy w/ a degree. Bank on that.

  • Absolutely true!

  • very true due to the fact that they can pay the guy with a A+ less money then the one with a degree. but over all its about experience that you have.

  • That was very helpful. I look forward to going through more of your vids.

  • Just what I was looking for!

  • nice video

  • Looks awesome in HD! Good stuff Zach!

  • exelent video it's help me good job
