I saw them in 1977 when they played the Cellar Bar at Thames Poly in Woolwich and I danced like an idiot spilling my beer everywhere :-) They weren't that well known at the time so there was none of that 'star' crap and we all just had a few beers together after. Coincidently that was the night I first tasted a McDonalds burger, Woolwich being the site of the first of their first UK restaurant, but I was so wasted by then I had no idea what I was eating - Happy days :-)
Nice to see a view of the scene from the other side of the pond. Although I'm not a fan of the group it's nice to see them in '77 and Gaye of course ( even if she could barely be seen here ).
I don't mind saying that I heard this for the first time only recently.. but I haven't been able to get it out of my head since! and this is just a great performance, thanks for uploading!
I saw the Adverts i their heyday actually at Essex Univ whist Gary Gilmores Eyes was riding high in the charts!, can still remember it!. There is more chance of England wining the world cup, than there is of this recording coming from this gig!!!!...no fucking way jose!!!!
it sounds like live at the Roxy. screams, braking glass.etc you don't get that in over produced shit do you ? . . live at the Roxy is still the best live compilation album ever made by a long way. if you ain't got it. you should as it totally encapsulates what the summer of 77 was about...the cover alone is a classic . .
LIVE AT THE LONDON ROXY '77 is one of the greatest punk albums of all time---The Adverts, Johnny Moped, Buzzcocks(before they sold out) Slaughter & The Dogs, etc. Seize it today!
i had 5-10 minutes when absolutely no cunt was in the building bar me and i was on the stage alone nr the 'mike stand' position....i closed my eyes and thought of this very Adverts performance....sent shivers i can tell you
It still sounds like a live recording, even if it may not be from this show. There´s no bass, the backing vocals are different than on the single version. Maybe they were pretty tight.
I saw this band in 77 in a tiny place near Glasgow called the Silver Threads - it was a most memorable gig. The place was tiny, and there was no stage: it was like watching a gig in someone living-room - they were great. I was at college at the time - the same college as one of the above mentioned Exploited, but at the time, 77 he was a big fat hippy who used to sit with his ugly hippy friends sneering at us punks - life's strange - eh.
and the energy of the 1977 bands proves that punk isn´t dead. but there was nothing in punk from 1980. political punk bands like the dead kennedys or right wing / alcoholic punk bands like exploited have destroyed the fun in punk

Why oh why did they decide to record the single over the live recording???
...This could have been even more awesome!
I love TV's tomahawk hop dance!
The Adverts and The Clash were the two best live punk bands back in '77!
...In my humble opinion.

Her sexiness level was often so high that she would become impossible to capture on film or video. Fact.
