Killers is probably Maiden's best overall album imo... and Wrathchild is one of the main reasons. It's like the perfect Hard Rocking song right from the opening/classic Bass line.
I'm a Paul fan! Back in 1981, when I first saw them on MTV, I just thought---here is a guy who, just with his looks alone, could bridge the gap with the punks and metal guys. I mean, here's a guy who looks like Adam Ant--and he's singing Metal! How ORIGINAL! When Bruce Dickinsen replaced him, they just became 'another' metal band to me!
@notfragile33 Just Another metal band with Bruce?? Huh! Yea,Just another metal band.Still going strong for 30 years since. You have to love the stuff people say on youtube.Dope
Awesome... gotta love classic Maiden. For me, anything from Powerslave and before are masterpieces. Please check out my cover version of this on guitar. :)
Paul Dianno wasn't the original singer for maiden he just sang on the first 2 albums the original singer was a guy named paul day the first stable one was Dennis wilcock of smiler steve harris's first band
@iolanthela That's a good comparison...never really thought about it that way. Kinda the same thing with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. I've always been more about the feeling than how good they actually are though...always loved old Sabbath better, always loved old Maiden better, always loved old VH better...I'm all about the soul
@bdoginit01 Hey bro I could careless i've been a metal head my whole life and I remeber when Iron Maiden first came out, I didn't like them then and I still don't like them now and it's because of the way Bruce Dickinson sings I just can't stand that high pitch metal style singing
@BoEmery i agree. i think Bruce has the better voice, but Paul's style and image and additude gave them a very punk-like sound that had a cool mix with metal.
I wonder how Dianno would sound singing on the number of the beast album...that wld be sick. but personally..i think dickinson is the better singer. Bruce is better overall..he jumps all over the f#*kin place, he has more energy and has a higher/ louder vocal range. but BOTH r great.
dianno is fuccn raw...ive only recently began to listen to heavy metal, starting with Black Sabbath's and Iron Maiden's first 2 albums. I've never heard Dickinson but just in listening to Killers, i dont know how they could get any better without dianno
@bdogg38128 As a Dickinson era fan, I'll answer that for you. It doesn't get better than Dianno. But check out the X factor album with Blaze which is their 3rd best album imo.
@StartabandDuran I am glad i am not the only one who thinks this.....but virtualXI was poo i thought. I liked how the songs were much darker on The X factor. Blood on the worlds hands is an amazing song.
No scream, a representation of Di'Anno. I think he sounds fantastic here, and I always loved what he did with Maiden, but I don't think he had the confidence to try and belt out the scream after the solo, unlike Bruce.
Saw them at the Swing in San Bernadino in '81. All these years later and I still love heavy metal. (The real shit, not the poser hair bands of the 80's. What a nightmare that was. )
@WrathchildNH.. amen!!! I was listening to the Killers album these past 5 days and I still believe that this was, is and will always be one of the best metal line-ups ever. At the time in the 80's, we didn't know if the I.M lads were metal or punk; however, one thing we did know for sure was that man can these bastards play and man could this motherfucker DiAnno sing!!! Up The Irons to WrathchildNH!!! Up The Irons!!!
I remember attending the Killers Show in L.A. when Iron Maiden opened for UFO in the 1980's. Although most the audience was there for UFO, the I.M. boys sounded so great that many thought they stole the show... me too!!! I'm now 48 years of age, but it's always great to see the boys in their glory days. Ahh, so many memories of spikes, leather and metal... Up the irons to tankjordan for posting this awesome video... @marquitos2875 I saw them at the Orpheum in Boston 81......seen them 25 times since.....have tiks for montreal 7/7......might catch the NYC show too.......46 now, someday I will be cremated wearing an Iron Maiden shirt.....the one from the "give me ED til I'm dead" tour....rock on
yeah, this is when Iron Maiden first came into the publics awareness, with Paul Dianno on vocals it was kind of like hard core punk meets metal-very raw and cool.
Nothing against Bruce Dickenson its just that his vocals are typical for the 80's whereas Dianno's vocals were untamed and wild.
DiAnno and Maiden were well suited. I love all Maiden stuff, but Paul was the IRON. Bruce makes them UPVC Maiden. Flexible. Everywhere. White and (eek) boring
@barryjgillis metallica has managed to cover songs that were meant to stay out of the metal box except for their garage days re reveisited ep the stuff after sucks bad...come on, thrash band covers skynyrd and bob segar(sp?) before they covered other metal bands and punk..metallica just plain sucks now.

Di'Anno is the best! Bruce had the luck of realeasing great albums, but Paul realeased two jewels called "Iron Maiden" and "Killers". Two albums but what albums!
As much as I idolize Dickinson, I still believe that none of the Maiden albums with him on vocals can stand up to the two with Paul DiAnno. Just my honest, humble opinion.
Agreed. After Powerslave Dickenson showed he could not do anything all that original or varied. Still a great singer though. DiAnno was a much more soulful guy. I love the first two Maiden albums, and in retrospect find that they have a diversity that you do not find on the later stuff.
i saw maiden at twickenham last year and they said they were gonna be making a new album. IMO they should get dianno back to do a one off song with them (likea bonus track)
paul was the best singer for the songs he was meant to sing in. Bruce was best after Paul. No need to compare. Iron Maiden was a different band after Bruce.

paul makes them sound more dangerous, but if you were listening to maiden with Paul was there in 1980, you'd be lucky to find anyone in your neighborhood who even knew who or what iron maiden was...they were nobody
Bruce brought them into the limelight. I liked them better when they were low key...underground.....Same with Metallica and MotleyCrue.......No videos on MTV please!!...Just the shows...

...I mean I like Bruces vocals but too many times in Maiden songs with him singing there's an over dramatic high part, after so many songs like that its incredibly refreshing to listen Paul DiAnno's frenzied vocals for a change.
I WANT MY MTV back from the turtle heads that ruined it.

@AoAiiKLuTcH Well ... it's like with Black Sabbath. Dio can sing rings around Ozzy, or just about anybody.
But there are some things where Ozzy's "feel", the way his emotion comes through, that just work better with the old Sabbath tunes.
Love 'em both.

DiAnno had a heavier voice which was unlike the typical high pitched singers of the 80's...perhaps technically Bruce can sing better but the rawness from Paul DiAnno's vocals just give a certain type of edge that higher pitched vocals don't.
...I mean I like Bruces vocals but too many times in Maiden songs with him singing there's an over dramatic high part, after so many songs like that its incredibly refreshing to listen Paul DiAnno's frenzied vocals for a change.
