I thought it was interesting at 2:45 about, when Stela informs him that the tiara is actually Rhinestone and he asks "What is rhinestone" in a genuinely curious tone. I suspect that that was actually breaking through his facade in a way - he does not really have those acquaintances he declares he has and proves it by being genuinely curious when informed of something he hasn't heard of before.
