The worst thing of him being stuck is that he could only stay around in that last part of the mine, right those 3 rooms before the Shelter: his room, the big room with the iron door, and the incinerator room, because the corridor was caved in. That must have sucked pretty bad.
@deathward4 Are we talking about the same game ? Red does appear in black plague in that strange place of souls and if you notice that you saw a comment of Phillip, he saying "poor Red im sorry. Are you happier now?" This happens on black plague
@salamouis Maybe, i personally don't agree but i respect. Anyway, Red already know that he was doing acting wrong asking that to Philip, but he wanted to die. Thats sad :(
I like Red and all, really, he's awesome, but that picture kinda makes me think... What made him infected, and why isn't he completely tuurngait'ed...? :L
I liked Overture a lot more than Black Plague, because Red was a good companion, like Atlas in Bioshock (until the end of Bioshock when he turns out to be Fontaine). A lot better than Clarence who seems to be a mentally unstable character who helps you at times, but is basically wishing death upon you most of the time.
@666AMC666 In Penumbra 3 (Requiem), he is only in a crazy dream of Philip's (which means he is going mad/ already was by the end of Penumbra 2). Red survived so long because (how he himself describes in his ramblings) he had faced the infected monstrosities from behind the metal door at the end. I guess he locked it, and hid a corpse in his wardrobe (I think). He got partially infected by the Tuurngait so even when he had had enough he just couldn't die or kill himself (or force himself to).
well technically he does, he's revealed in requiem that he is dr eminess. basically he met you before in loops of mental repetition. you did die in black plague at the end of typing the message on the computer, but you are near death experience; in requiem you and red are mentally floating around until you decide to kill yourself with him in the furnace chamber.
in a nutshell you did everything up to black plague over and over again until you decide to mentally die too
Thanks for uploading. I keep coming back to this game: while Amnesia is definitely scarier, Overture is without a doubt the best game Frictional has done so far, simply due to the amazing story.
May this tormented soul find rest in the gentle embrace of the Lord. May his mind know peace and the pain be wept away like dust in the wind. Rest in peace, Tom Redwood. You have earned it.
am I the only one that felt a tear go down their cheek when you had to kill red, we've come to know each other so much without seeing one another, I was so excited to see the person who was guideing me this whole way but that dream was shattered when he guided me to a room with a incinerator, and told me to kill him I did as he said and then all could hear was the screams of my only friend dieing :(
(but for some reason I felt good doing it, knowing he's in a better place now).
@alphaalphalfa I know this is 9 months old but...... right before you press button to kill red you can turn around and open the dorr you came through and you will wake up in the ship from the beginning, its either overture or black plague where it happens

I mean, 30+ years, trapped in a living nightmare.... I can see why he wanted to die so much.
Rest in peace Red, for you are free.

@MrLMxD I thought of that as a place in Philip's mind, possibly triggered by Clarence finding his way in.

Penumbra is fantastic, just like Amnesia. I love you, Frictional Games!
I completed Overture today (and I'm moving to Black Plague now, and then Requiem).
And now I feel guilty about killing Red.
Rest in peace, Red, you are in a better place now.
I can't even imagine the pain he went trough. Imagine that he stuck in these damned mines since he was 14, he had NO LIFE!
He spent all his long and boring years stuck in a fucking mine! That's incredibly awful!

According to the notes, he was only 14 when Phillip found him in the incinerator, he speaks so weirdly because he read a lot of Shakespeare
lSparto1 3 months ago 2
@lSparto1 No, he was 14 when he wrote the note when he got stuck in the mine in the first place. And it was written in 1970. MATHS, USE THEM.

Completely, It really was a great game and deserves more people to play it..
Very scary and psychological. Good atmosphere, voice acting, story.. just a shame about the graphics!
"But I'm sure you will agree, it is a name rather similar to a cardigan.. fetching when worn correctly!"
I am rather excited however as the same makers of Penumbra are working on a new game now! Amnesia. Let's hope its just as good!

@Max27588 The free demo of it is available through Steam.
Unfortunately, it crashes on the opening cinematic for me (I have a very poor PC).
