I played this game for about 10 times or so... Light green is the dickiest AI ever and dark green actually some times teams up with you if you protect him
This game is fun, and I am practically additiced to it. But what I hate is you always have to play as the color Purple. You don't have the option to change your color.
i win 80% of the time doesn't matter how many computer players i play agains.. the only time i don't win is when i start last and they eat up most of my territory
This game is a little too easy. I don't think it cheats at all. Anyhow, to expand on the hints below, if you have stacked dice/armies stuck way behind your front lines, it's often worth going on a bit of a killing spree to leave one-die positions on the board that the enemy can take over. Then, you can move your stacked armies in from the back and put them somewhere useful. A big part of the strategy of the game is figuring out how to get armies buried in your territory out to the front.
Pffft. The game does not cheat. I'm sure you can convince yourself that it does through confirmation bias (you notice when the computer seems to roll "unfairly" and don't notice what's in your favor) but good strategy will win for you most of the time.
This is not a great player in the video... he takes far too many unnecessary risks when he should just hold his position, build up his reserve dice, and let the opponents fight each other until the right opportunity arises to strike.
Pfffft, if you don't realize that the game "cheats" you haven't played it much. Take it from someone who can win virtually every time I play (and I play too much when bored...) the game was NOT programmed with "random" probabilities. I've actually gone as far as to work out the probabilities on using other online tools, and this game does not play fair. You have to understand the strategy behind when and where your opponents will attack in order to win.
I'd like to see your numbers. It's true that you can learn to predict where the opponents will attack -- usually they will attack the player perceived to have a very large advantage. If that's not you, you can stay safe by sitting still and building up reserve dice for a while.
lol, I can accurately predict 95% of the time which moves I will win and lose, regardless of how well I outnumber (or am outnumbered). Trust me, lots of this game is not random.
Does anyone know if there is a fair version of this game about? I cannot seem to win no matter how good a position I'm in as the computer cheats with its dice rolls. The amount of times I've lost when I've been rolling 8 dice versus 3 is far too high to for this game not to be cheating.
I play the first version that pops up when you google Dice Wars. I've only been playing for a few days- but right now I can win the majority of the time I play. It's all about strategy :)
The player obviously doesn't now how to play this game right... if I were in his posision, it would take 5 times less time to win... P.S great game! :)
It's infuriating how the computer doesn't play by same probability rules. You almost always lose when attacking an equal dice territory while the computer almost always wins. The programmer should have designed it to play smarter rather letting it "cheat". You should be able decide where your dice are deployed, that's half the skill of risk. I often see it sabotaging you by placing them at the back. I also don't like how all the colors attack you as soon as you get an adv. Still a fun game.
The programmer instead of making the skill where you put your dice it's where and when you attack that determines your skill. Honestly I saw a lot of mistakes in his gameplay. He often attacked a territory directly touching a high dice count enemy territory. You never do that...
I'm not sure how you won...you took your sweet time.
I suggest staying at least one territory separated from larger enemy pieces, and covering your back. Lure the enemy in by taking over adjacent territories with small dice, and then take back land using a strong piece once the enemy's force becomes diluted.
i hate this game now cuz the computer cheats its ass off, it could be 6 of your dice in one territory attacking a section with two and you will still lose i think the way the computer figures the dice rolls is complete bullshit it favors the coputer almst every time
Man, your'e waaay to defensive. I don't understand why you were trying to fight in the middle all the time. You never tried to go south, green had to much space. Second, you had a lot of dices, but you didn't use them. You had a lot of possibilities to attack, but you never did. If I did'nt know you were going to win, I'd have said you'd lose.
I never would've played this way. I would've secured the south, hunkered down out of everyone's way, and wait while they destroyed each other. I *never* would've crossed into the middle of the board unless it was my only chance to survive. Good job, but a lot of it was really crap playing by the AI.
Dear Author: You did make some serious strategy errors through the course of the game (1:00 - move to secure south- 2 space opportunity among others) You gave dark green waaay too much slack. Be more aggressive- one dice advantage is a significant percentage. 4v3 dice has a 25% no-lose chance for example.
I've played for a while now...it's pretty much impossible to lose. The AI attacks way too much and leaves itself open, realize that and you can't lose. It's not about the amount of land, it's about how large dice stacks you have.
I think the biggest mistake you made in this whole game was (around 4:30) to get in between the two more powerful, and warring sides (cyan and green). This gave them no option but to attack you instead, if only to get to each other. You recovered and quickly got out of their way, back to your corner.
I have played enough Dicewars to be able to write a dissertation (although I probably shouldn't admit how much time I've wasted). This game is a literal incarnation of the principle of Divide and Conquer. Cut your opponent in half when ever possible and reduce the number of armies he has to fight you next turn. I am convinced that the game maker has given the computer an edge (not completely random die rolls) to compensate for its lack of stragegy.
Given that you made a ton of mistakes, yet occaisonally showed that you know how to play, I'll assume that those mistakes were intentional to introduce something like a challenge to the game :-P
i fucking hate this game, it has stolen many hours from me, when the computer starts ignoring the powerfull ones but never ignores you when your doing well aaarrggh, my computer doesn't know how close its came to being thrown out the window, and sometimes one sector will just refuse to be beat even if you use 6 shots trying to do it
that dark green one had had a good starting position, but the light-blue one is really a master

The only way of losing the game is playing against one AI. If it gets the first turn, there wont be much land left for you after it has finished.
I wonder how would this great game work as a real life version?
