I think Kate and the whole Rusby family are fantastic, if you look hard enough you can find several snipets of a documentary they did for channel 4.
If you find them are you are able to appreciate the story behind Kates song "My Young Man" which is a song about her Grand Parents which is the most sincere brilliant song about a family I have ever heard. It has no equal,
I'm 14 and my friends all think this sort of music is rubbish, but it really shows that England actually has talent, rather than the stuff that is in the charts at the moment (Hip-hop, pop, R&B etc.), which a lot of it isn't even English anyway, who get autotuned and/or don't play their own instruments. This is beautiful, and she has REAL talent!
This is just gorgeous! I heard her music on Jam & Jerusalem and I just had to download her albums, such a beautiful voice! I've been playing this song on repeat for about 2hrs now, the lyrics are so soothing.
I was using the tv remote as most blokes do and I heared a voice that was in the backing track of a program about the Yorkshire Dales. I found who this singer was using the credits of the program. Within two weeks I have bought her DVD Live from leeds and I have my tickets for the Halifax gig May 14th. What a talented lady and being a Yorkshireman myself I smile when she sings in a Barnsley accent, wonderful.
am a big folk fan...and totally love Kate Rusby! So, I hope no one minds me doing this, but I'm looking to attract fellow folk lovers to my songs. People don't realize that Kate writes All of these songs herself. They sound like they could have been written years ago. She says she listens to so much traditional music it comes out when she writes. Beautiful!

@AthenaJarman Good for you. I was the same when I was young, I listened to a load of songs that others didn't. I am 33 years old now and still a lot hasn't changed. When it comes to music it is important not to follow the crowd but to follow your heart. Kate Rusby is an amazing singer.

Kate finished with this number on Sunday night at Sheffield Lyceum, her performance was simply quite stunning ! It was a Brilliant evening, and the Red Skies string ensemble that accompanied her added to a wonderful night. Kate is a national treasure!
Some sad songs, sad but beautiful, but she's very amusing in between songs. She was backed by very skilled musicians, and it was an evening I'll never forget.
I will be in London on the 25th. Only I haven't got tickets. They wouldn't send abroad. Hope I can get hold of a couple of tickets! How I'd love to see her live...
It's the Carlton Main/Frickley Colliery Band playing Dvorak's New World Symphony - which, of course, is normally played by a symphony orchestra. DADRENO has lots of information about this with his excellent video posting.
Gentle, sad, plaintive, desperately sad! Have you got the tee-shirt? I have, and Kate must have, having split from John McCusker! But there have must have been a good reason, which probaboly wasn't her fault.
to "ilikenyinjune" - if you're not joking, then, yes, I have thoughts on this, but this is a family arena, so I'll keep them to myself :~) Let's just say I think it's about as good a match as Mahatma Gandhi & Hitler putting on a ballet, wearing clogs.

I don't see what's pedantic about politely correcting someone's mistake. If he'd added "...you fucking retard" at the end, then you'd be justified in your reply to him. If, however, you'd simply replied with "thanks for pointing out my mistake", then you could both have gone on your merry ways. On the other hand, if he was being smug and trying to bait you then the same reply would have stopped him in his tracks. Don't you agree?

Topographer If you are still in London on Sunday the 27th April there is a couple for sale on Ebay at Cadogan Hall !

I got tickets. It was a wonderful concert.

I saw Kate sing this as an encore at Snape Maltings, and it was blinking perfect!!

No, it's Kate Rusby, with a colliery band padding the song, that's why I thanked her for her nod to the tradition. None taken:P
tonupnolid 4 years ago
Actually the musicians here are from the Coldstream Guards although she uses Colliery bands at other times
bountybar 4 years ago
OK, I'll take your word for that, but they are playing 'colliery', not marching military stuff, so I guess we're all rightxD
whatever, it's a beautiful song:)

Colliery bands rock. The first time I heard this song made me feel even more proud to be a Yorkshireman.
Ditto, thanks Kate, for helping to keep that proud tradition alive.
tonupnolid 4 years ago
There is a real colliery band playing on the track called "My Young Man" on Kate's "Little Lights" CD, which has some lovely songs.

Ok, who is the band playing on, `Capstick Comes Home` then ?
bonzodog10 4 years ago
It's the Carlton Main/Frickley Colliery Band playing Dvorak's New World Symphony - which, of course, is normally played by a symphony orchestra. DADRENO has lots of information about this with his excellent video posting.

WOw, thx mate, you certainly know your stuff.

Gentle, sad, plaintive, desperately sad! Have you got the tee-shirt? I have, and Kate must have, having split from John McCusker! But there have must have been a good reason, which probaboly wasn't her fault.
X10SMS 4 years ago
I don't know what that means. I like Sandy Denny though she is no longer with us. Kate Rusby is alright.

I came across the 'You Belong to Me' video and curious just looked at a few others. It's been 2 months. I don't really care any more.

I've loved Kate since _Underneath the Stars_ came out. I wish she'd tour the states (and come to St. Louis, Missouri)--I'll keep wishing! :)

Kate is awesome on her own, pure work of art ...but wouldn't a duet with Robin Gibb be the perfect matchup ever? Any other thoughts on this?
ilikenyinjune 4 years ago
to "ilikenyinjune" - if you're not joking, then, yes, I have thoughts on this, but this is a family arena, so I'll keep them to myself :~) Let's just say I think it's about as good a match as Mahatma Gandhi & Hitler putting on a ballet, wearing clogs.
