you know you're hit when someone on the opposite side's wad hits ya in the nuts, (this happened to me once and it hurt like holy hell, i though someone shot me in the nuts with a real musket ball) even though it hurts its a great opportunity to fake a real wound
What I never understand is the cav round here will ride up to infantry defense and sit there poping off their pistols at them, when I reality they would have had three volleys put into them.
well, i live in California, where they ride AROUND the infantry and hit the artillery guys. Then our cav goes around and there's a big skirmish between the arty boys, the enemy cav, and our cav, and their big pistol wads go flying everywhere, hit a spectator in the face last year.
OW. A guy at a cowboy reenactment (which I don't do) some how acedently loaded his 12 gage with real buckshot and nailed a dude in the chest. (He lived somehow)
California was part of the war she sent several regiments like the 6th California Infantry. Most members were integrated in other Regiments theres a picture of a Massachusetts cavalryman who on his Kepi has California written in the Letters. so they were there not in very large numbers.
well actually you chose when u die so if ur tired u die or if u just feeling like being an actor and dieing u do it. there is no way to tell. and yes they are shooting blanks
2 things.
1. They cant hold a line for shit.
2. No one was dying wtf.

Come on 69th!!!! Fire away lads!!!

The 69th NY were one regiment in the Irish brigade. I think a true re-enactment included a charge.

there's still the guys in cavalry firing at ya with their pistols, which ,may i add, fire BIGGER wads than the regular Springfield musket.

Blanks are easy. Just pack the wadding on top of the black powder with no projectile and you get a loud boom and nobody gets hurt.
One reenactor told me he uses 120 grains of powder for his blank shots with his .58 caliber 1861 springfield.
When firing a projectile from a .58 caliber rifle it's not good to use more than 90 grains of powder.

I am a Confederate re-enactor. All we do is put black powder in the rifles and use a percussion cap to detonate the powder.
