Our radar site in Korea (K16) had Mohawks also stationed there. They'd fly up to the DMZ and film and then bring back what they observed. But most of these guys were incredible pilots, and a few even a little crazy. Proud to have served with them.
Best clip of a fantastic bird. Spent some right seat time in the hawk and was always amazed how well it performed under all conditions. They built this one right!
Incredibly beautiful footage and aircraft! Very well done indeed. Besides, this plane is far more handling and "overpowered" (because of that loop on just one engine) than I thought so far, mostly taking into account its size and weight. Excellent!
The Squadron CO had a lump of metal on his desk when I was at Libby AAF, I asked him what it was, he said it was the remains of a mohawk after a less then bright nugget did a slow roll over his on post house.
Cool video. Don't know who your dad was, but may have flown or served with him if he was in the 73rd in RVN prior to Ft. Rucker. I flew OV-1s in RVN and Germany before the GaARNG. More than 2,500 hours in that killer seat. Lots of great people in the Mohawk community, but they are dying off too rapidly. Mohawks are getting more and more popular nowadays. Thanks for posting.
I lost my dad Mr.Mohawk, this year..It has been devastating..He loved these planes and flying. I am so proud to have had him as my dad. Thanks to videos like these I feel connected to him still. He flew in Vietnam, Ft.Rucker, Ft.Huachuca, Germany, Korea etc. He was at his best in a plane. Thanks Mark Dugan Lawrence for spreading your love of these "sharks in the air"
The music is from a group calle Era...the song is Omen Sore. Heard it in a restauraunt in Guadalara, Mexico...like it and bought the album that night.
First, I was 1 of 2 OV-1 pilots at Ft. Lewis in 65, then I was the IR platoon leader in the 73rd 65-66, then an instructor at Huachuca 66-68 (you may have seen me fly the plane in the Doppler training film) and finally I was the XO (68) and CO (69) of the 245th 'redeyes'. 2000+ hours in the bird and I loved every minute of it. More Mohawk films are starting to show up. Unfortunately, the ones I've posted were made from detiorated film. search on trainav8r to see them.
After my 1st tour in RVN, I instructed Army pilots to fly the OV-1 at Ft Rucker from Jun 69-Apr 71. I then returned to RVN for my 2d tour. I flew for the 73d SAC, 225th
Blackhawks, GA and OR National Guard. In 1983, I started instructing Mohawk pilots to become IPs. I have more than 5000 hours in the OV-1. I'm sure I either flew with or know your Dad. The OV-1 was a great aircraft and the men who flew her were true American patriots. Thanks for the video. Archie Roberts
Thanks for sharing your Dad's video. It brings back many fond memories. I went through Rucker in 1971 and then to Vietnam in 72 where I flew Mohawks. Flew them for 3 years at Fort Hood after than and then in Korea on 81-82. I still love that old bird, am a member of the OV-1 Mohawk Association and talk frequently yo a lot of my old Mohawk buddies. Those were the best days of my life. We were soldiers once, and young.
Flew the OV-1 from September 1970 until May 1973. First stationed with the 184th M.I. Co. at Ft. Lewis. Then with the 6th Aviation Platoon in Korea (May 72 till 73). Im now 58 and have retired as an air traffic control supervisor and CFI/II. Of all the aircraft Ive flown in my life, none compare to the OV-1. I loved her so much!
Thanks for this! oh, what I would give just to strap into the Martin Baker seat one more time!
Hey man I was with 122nd AVN in Germany 70-73. I was a T>O I went to Anoka County Airfield in Minn. In 97. They have several Mohawks there. I got up in the cockpit. Funny how the seat either was smaller, or I was bigger. Fun to set in the old Mohawk again. They still smell the same.

The video really does showcase what the Mohawk can do, aerobatically. It's insane and it looks unnatural given how large it is.
Great aircraft!
