Had the distinct pleasure of meeting Matt, when he appeared at the "Blue Room," of the Fairmont Hotel, New Orleans, in the early 70's. He put on a magnificent performance. To beat it all, was a wonderful person. His voice will never be matched. Perfection!!!!
@paulmaccarocks......I just can't figure it out! Had Matt Monro recorded and lived in America, rather than Britain, he'd have surely been a HUGE international star. I love Dean Martin, for example, but he couldn't begin to compete with Matt's smooth and perfect pitch renderings.
If there is ever a list of most underappreciated pop singers of all time, I'd put Matt at right at numero uno!!
@lawrie31 Cant Agree More, though Frank Sinatra thought Matt's voice was the be all and end all and really appreciated his velvet tones so he had some good recognition a.
i can't help myself not to cry everytime i hear this song, this is my mom's favorite ...i remember she used to play matt monroe's songs every morning....miss u so much mama and papa...i wish that both of u are not yet gone...love u so much...
my mom loves this,, so every morning i play songs from the 60s, she loves humming with these songs,, i love my parents, so to repay for everything, i made them smile every morning with this classic songs,, i love my parents they r in their 60s.
The lyrics of this song is so beautiful.. The 1st few lines already have an impact.. "There could never be a portrait of my love for nobody could paint a dream..." Sir Monro's generation has the best lyrics not even my generation's best could compete against.. All these praises coming from an 18 year old man.. It's so sad that only a few of my generation know what real music is..
To the 4 dislikes...why bother even searching for Matt, you must lead such sad lives to even dislike any of Matt's songs...now fucking jog on.. ( sorry for the language)
brilliant the master of love never got the real fame he deserved a true singer hes up with the very best like vic damone al martino gordon macrea smooth voice

Great voice...one of my favorite singers. Wish he was still here with us, but thankfully we have these wonderful YouTube audios to listen to Matt's wonderful singing.
Yet another record produced by the superb George Martin whose most famous artists were the Beatles. So much talent by the singer and the production team.
Never heard of him until I did a search for the Steve Lawrence version. Love both versions!! I'm thinking Matt may have been one of Steve's early influences. They sound incredibly alike!
pure talent no training and like Sinatra (tezzabanboy} only the working class can have a talent like that but not be a twat on some game show with Simon Cowell and sell out. The love of singing and succeding is a spit in the face of all them twats who think they know better and would make the world in a mirror image of themselves .Who would you rather be Frank or Matt or smon fuckin loser cowell he he
Sinatra could n't hold a candle to Matt, the diction the clarity of the words, the pitch is always there. Two great singers but Matt is head and shoulders above Frankie.
@TALKSMITTY Not sure I could agree with that, but who knows. Some of Matt Monroe's songs would have sounded great from a 1940s Sinatra. Some have even said Sinatra couldn't sing. Listen to 'All the things you are' by Sinatra on youtube and you'll hear him at his best when he was called 'the voice.'
Sinatra could n't hold a candle to Matt, the diction the clarity of the words, the pitch is always there. Two great singers but Matt is head and shoulders above Frankie
Britains finest singer ????? Can't agree with that statement . Monro was the Worlds finest singer . His voice still has the same effect it had on me 30 years ago.
What an amazing voice ........truly britains best . We admire Britain for producing so many world class talent Beatles, Cliff, Shadows Stones,Julie Andrews,Sean Connery in the 60s not the rubbish of today busty Jordan,Spice Girls etc
A remarkable voice, tender, assured, delicate, great musical intelligence. An immense pleasure to listen to him - he died too soon, and from the odd occasion when I saw him interviewed, a modest and good-humoured chap, too. Born Free, Softly As I Leave You, Wednesday's Child and From Russia With Love were songs he made his own; no other versions will do.
This song cleared the floor at Top Rank Cardiff when I was 15 - now that I'm 63 I find that it's actually part of my musical dna! Absolutely brilliant...
I've never heard anyone sing better. Don't know aNY bus drivers like this in London. There is 1 guy tho who drives the Waterloo & City line in the week, I've heard him twice. He tells us all to chill out, enjoy life and sometimes sings to us. Makes all the difference and I bet he knows it.
matt monro was my dads favourite singer he sadly passed away suddenly on 31/08/2010 this was played at his funeral a beautiful record and a fitting tribute to a wonderful husband, dad and grandad rip dad love and miss you xxx
"effortless but not without effort"- a quote made about the other great singer of the 20th century but equally could be applied to matt!! .....oh yeah his name- roy orbison
MAtt Monro's voice makes me stop in my tracks EVERY SINGLE TIME. Some ppl train for years and never get this amount of feeling into their sound, and this guy drove the bus well huh what a strange gift music is. Matt, you aren one of the first ppl I'll seek out for a natter when it's time but I suppose it's a long queue.
Sinatra said he was the greatest and know one can argue with that, great singer beautiful song he was and will remain the greatest singer Britain has seen
what wonderfull comments some of you have made ...! This reminds me of the lady who i loved and was going to marry but she recentl decided to start a new relationship with someone else ..This reminds me of how i feel for her and always will ,love hurts but could never regret meeting her,She was my true love and for ever will be

This is my Mum and Dad's favorite and was 'their song'.
Matts voice will never be found again, i am sure, even good singers these day's cannot compare to the crystal clear and pitch perfect voive of Matt's. In fact, it's so good it;s hard to imagine anyone sing that well..
A perfect song sung by a perfect singer. What more can I say. What great times when this song came out for music and life in general. Now we live on planet Zog!
everytime i hear matt monro's songs,i always remember my father.i dont know why.i dont remember anything or anytime that we spent quality time together but still I MISS AND I LOVE HIM
you guys sure have pathetic memories associated with this song eh..well i got none what so ever...just getting to know matt n his wonderful songs...a bit too late ....ouch...!
he wasnt britains best ever singer, not even close, im sorry but thats rubbish. He had a nice voice, not a great voice. There is josef locke, john mccormick and a lot of other amazing singers, that had real ranges. Joe longthorne can sing the guy into fits. I can sing the guy into fits. Voice is nice like i said but not an amazing voice.
@singerman2008 To write of Matt Monroe in such begrudging terms says more about you than Matt... it's a bit ironic that you go in search of the Singers songs only to criticize the man. Unless you are someone in your 80's in the case of Locke and maybe over 100 in Count John's and actually heard them sing live then maybe you have a point.... there are no credible quality recordings of either out there that I know of. Matt was Frank Sinatra's favorite singer ... not a bad recommendation.
@singerman2008 I love people who search for an artist's music just to criticise. Must make their sad little lives worthwhile... I enjoyed listening to Matt anyway and that's the important thing. No comments will EVER stop him being forever awesome.
What a beautiful performance.

Anyone that thinks Matt can't sing, seriously needs a hearing test. They really do.

A perfect song sung by a perfect singer. What more can I say. What great times when this song came out for music and life in general. Now we live on planet Zog!

you guys sure have pathetic memories associated with this song eh..well i got none what so ever...just getting to know matt n his wonderful songs...a bit too late ....ouch...!

he wasnt britains best ever singer, not even close, im sorry but thats rubbish.
