Very fine tutorial. This song is a favorite but because of the layered guitars was difficult to find the right way to play the intro. I've watched dozens of EC Layla Live videos and Eric and his guitar partner play it many different ways. On his Live set Crossroads 2, the other guitarist, Joe Terry, plays yet another way (different fingering). This tutorial captures the feel and sound of the intro best. Easy to follow. The guy plays beautifully, too.
Hi, great video and great guitar lesson. I am not sure, but I thought I found an acoustic version of Layla that you did on YouTube and now I cant find it.
I love how he's so classy with his commercial voice and then all of a sudden he rocks out on a electic guitar in a nice shirt, oh my god..i cant breathe!! xD
@darthhull85 Derek and the Dominoes was the band Eric Clapton was in when the song was first produced, so technically, it belongs to the whole band, but Eric did the most work from what I understand.
Great lesson considering I was able to work it out as a beginner, however i found it easier to play the opening riff on E on the 5th fret, I play it that way so you have less distance to travel to the chords.
@ArmyRangerish here is a tip: go learn to play guitar before you start learning songs that are a little harder. And if you don't have enough experience to follow him, you shouldn't really be a whiny bitch about his teaching, because most people who come here to learn this song, are advanced players and he just didn't want to waste anyone's time by doing everything so fucking slow, that idiots like you could understand, what is he doing.
@ArmyRangerish -,If want to get good in a short period of time I suggest that you go to nextlevelguitar(dot)com and purchase the "1-12 DVD Set" with over 24 hours of basic lessons. After that you will be able to follow this lesson and many others. When you finish with this DVD set then get Desi Serna's DVD set that will teach you the foundation of modern playing. Good Luck in your guitar quest. And for the record... this is a Good Lesson on Layla and I been playing for only 3 years. Cheers
Thank you this was very helpful! Thanks to your excellent lesson I actually wrote this tab for myself to study (I couldn't find a tab anyhwere so this definitely helped me a lot) Now I just gotta try to catch up to your finger speed lol again many thanks!!!
2 things, where's the solo? playing the intro over and over does not constitute a solo and on the chorus, he says "play the D5,Bb & C" but neglects to tell us he's also playing the"G" note on the 3rd fret, 6th string twice in between the chords. once with 2nd finger and second with 1st.
very nice learned it quick, thanks oh werent you on here under sickboy or something like that?i looked for your videos under that name but you must have deleted them.you had som ratt songs on that i learned from you.keep on a rockin
y do u call this teaching ur just showing tell me wat the hell im doing thats y im on youtube... trust me ur not techin nebody that negood wat to do.... think about ur viewing audience
Thanks, you get to the point, unlike the beginner teachers, who take hours of explaining. I'm not saying there bad, I'm just saying we need more people like you.
didn't realize it was so easy. quite similar to riffs by albert king, pink phloyd, winwood. mostly basic pentatonic with some nice bends. still, thanx for the lesson i didn't know that intro and those little passing chords. that helps. and thanx for the winwood lesson. now i can find my way back home even betterrrrrr. (actually i used to use b- and c to d instead of the e-. it all works but this is more like the orig.
I love this video, this is how video lessons should be done. Short and to the point. I'm an intermediate guitar player and too many times video lessons are broken down so much and move so slow that it's actually harder to learn the song. At least it is for me. It's harder for me to learn songs if the instruction moves so slow that what is being taught loses the feel of the song. Slow might be good for beginners but not intermediates or pro's. Just get me there and i'll figure it out. Thanks
Eh?....what the FUCK is going on at 1:24??? Very bad instructions at this point, can't understand what he's doing after the high pitch string bend on the 15th fret???
Your not explaining things properly buddy.
This might be perfectly clear to experienced guitar players but its frustrating for beginners.
@fonecrusher1 if u want a break down of the song, check out marty's lesson on this song. its like 8 minutes tho. he did a good job on this lesson. its just if your a beginner than you probally cant follow the lesson by sight and have an ear for notes he plays. but yea check martys lesson out tho
Excellent tutorial! It's one thing to have the required skills to play an instrument. It's quite another to be able to teach effectively and precisely. You have both. Definitely 5 stars!
@Snigglesnock If you stop it at certain area's of the vid, you can follow him. Took me a couple of days to figure it out. you can do it man. I even turned my computer monitor upside down so I could see what he was looking at!
learnt it but don't get what he's playing after the chords/in between them? can sum1 tell me what notes on the fretboard he's playing? O.o
