@thebloads I really suggest you to start with the unique Live concert of the Sweet Smoke band, the first song is "First Jam". Anyhow, you must not try to compare classical musique with rock. The essence of Rock n roll is improvisation and self performance wich is a different concept.
i am a devoted Karajan fan and have not come across this DVD before perhaps it is not available in the UK,however i have just watched it and of course it is magnificent and i thank thoes responsible for posting the complete on this site.
@tatters1232006 Thank you very much for your comment and your welcome. Some Karajan video recordings done for Telemondial are very hard to find. This is one of them. A Missa Solemnis recording from 1985 tops the list. There is also a '4 last song' recording with Anna Tomowa Sintow which as far as I know have never been published. There are forums about these almost mythified recording because of not publishing. Hope to see them soon in the market.
@violinfootball This one and many other classical pieces are at the core of their repertoire so they know them by heart. They, for example even know Brahms' German Requiem, Missa Solemnis by Beethoven, Verdi's Requiem etc. by heart, all those works being longer and harder compositions compared to this one. Great music making !
Sure, great music but Von Karajan did better with Van Beethoven. This is not a very vibrant and colorful performance. Static and boring. Thanks for uploading though.
I really don't like the directors interpretation of the bass volume during some of the solos. I think it sounds better with the bass in equal volume to the other 3 parts.
When the violins start playing in time with the women chorus it made me understand the beauty of Mozart with this piece.Simply perfection in all time and space. A work from the mind of God!
In my humble opinion, the best music EVER written!.....it has every fine ingredient imaginable, and the end result is total perfection. Thanks for sharing!(and thanks to "Amadeus" the film, for introducing me to such breathtaking music!)
@martlad1 Hi. Your welcome and am happy that you enjoyed it. 'Best music ever written' might be too strong since this work is not even completed by it's composer but his students, musicologists etc. but still if you liked it that much, I'd strongly suggest you to go on for other Mozart's. There I think you'll find many more jewels like this, that you'll enjoy.
@therealh I think that's not the case here. As far as I hear (and I might be wrong, I don't 've and absolute pitch or whatever at all) only one trombone plays that part as it's written in the score but for the video recording they show 3 of them for no obvious reason, probably just to make it seem more majestic. Let me tell you that in these Telemondial Film-concert recordings almost all wind clips are recorded separately in order to achieve 'better' shots of the instruments.
@Fata1paradOx One of them... There is no best music piece ever, in the same way that there is no best paint ever or best book ever. Mozart's Requiem, Velázquez's Meninas and Quijote's by Cervantes are good examples of best in arts, but there are no the only one. PS: Two of three are from Spanish artists...
Thanks Mom for turning me onto Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin when I was a little boy. This is and always will be the most beautiful music in the world. Please rest in peace and may you always be surrounded by the music you taught me to love.

@newFranzFerencLiszt Therefore it's one of the most performed and recorded Requiem's. Boring? Verdi's Requiem is as moving as any opera by him. That work is Dramatic in every sense.

@jimtzikis it's indeed a masterpiece :) which doesn't make Verdi's work a boring one. Pity that Mozart never completed this Requiem and Great Mass K. 427. Both would be masterpieces. They are torso's now.
@halofannatic that time interval corresponds to the movement lacrimosa which as far as I know can be loosely translated as 'tears of cry'. That says all y many people 've tears there.
Thank you for having uploaded this marvellous piece!!!
@crossbike I don't need to believe in something supernatural in order to make a sense of my life. This music and it's creator Mozart, a human being, is enough supernatural to me. And I don't postpone peace to eternity but am sure that we can achieve it here, right now.
@metroboy777 Had it been only the Requiem what he didn't finish, I would try to find a way to take it easy but he also didn't finish the famous Great Mass in c minor k.427, take that ! It's as if he aimed not to finish a masterpiece in religious choral music (Coronation mass is finished, yes, but it's a missa brevis)
@metroboy777 Yes, it was really a pity that Mozart died before the completion of this masterpiece. As to "matching pieces"... I think that Brahms' Deutsches Requiem would be a good couple with Mozart's :)
The Viennese are the best at Mozart. There is no question the are the best at performing Mozart. It is in their blood. They are proud to have such a great musical genius in their ranks.
@PattiKay63 Leonard Bernstein, in the documentary 'The Love of Three Orchestras' of 1984, says almost exactly the same about Vienna Philharmonic. And they deserve that epithet very much indeed.
@cagin Yes they do. I studied with Asher G. Zlotnik Ph. D. He was a great teacher and taught me what music is. I ask Dr. Z a question after a lesson about forward motion and he answered in such a way that placed him in line with the greats. I learned a geat deal about music from him. Four years of intense driving training of the ear and studies of the Bach Cello Suites and Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
I might say you can hear the culture here. This is a definitive performance. Bernstein is not all that great. My teacher was in master classes with him Fritz Reiner teaching. Got the inside scoop. Bottom line is Karajan is a great and this performance shows it.
Herbert von Karajan was a great conductor, but Hes version here doesn´t match the one of Leonard Bernstein from 1989. I think many of his tempos are to fast, and he is not emotional enough for my taste, very German in a way if I may say so ( this is not a critisism on the Germans in general) but was very delicate but very icy as a conductor, always nice stringsound, but not enough passion in him for my taste.
@Dionysosable He was a great conductor and I think here he does great. Compared to Bernstein's version he might be less flexible about tempo and expression but I don't think I can call it less emotional. Bernstein sometimes loses the architecture of the work i.e. : his lacrymosa is extremely slow (like Bohm's) and Agnus Dei not as dramatic as here. What I admire in Karajan is whatever he does he does it staying IN the work. Btw : Both readings I admire much. Still maybe I prefer Karajan's. Best.
@Dionysosable Wow! I've never heard Karajan accused of being too fast. Usually it is the reverse, that he is too slow. I've checked out the Bernstein version and do not agree with you. I adore Bernstein and after Karajan he is my favorite conductor, but his version from 1989 is a total mess. Too slow and surprisingly so, and the textures are muddled. Neither version beats the old Colin Davis recording from Phillips with Minton, Donath and Hans Sotin, if I remember it properly. Cheers.
This is simply the best interpretation of probably the best music score ever. No one but Karajan have ever played the Requiem with so much refinement and power at the same time. It's absolutely perfect, Karajan covered pure beauty with flawlessness.
WONDERFUL!Thank You VERY much for uploading and for putting the time indication for every single nr.!

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very small sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.

Thanks for your comment anyway.

An excellent rendition, a little slower and at a lower pitch, along with a staccato touch.
Oh Mozart, why did you die before finishing it yourself? and even so...your Requiem has no match and it will never have one!
metroboy777 3 months ago 13
@metroboy777 Had it been only the Requiem what he didn't finish, I would try to find a way to take it easy but he also didn't finish the famous Great Mass in c minor k.427, take that ! It's as if he aimed not to finish a masterpiece in religious choral music (Coronation mass is finished, yes, but it's a missa brevis)
cagin 3 months ago
@metroboy777 Yes, it was really a pity that Mozart died before the completion of this masterpiece. As to "matching pieces"... I think that Brahms' Deutsches Requiem would be a good couple with Mozart's :)

The Viennese are the best at Mozart. There is no question the are the best at performing Mozart. It is in their blood. They are proud to have such a great musical genius in their ranks.

@PattiKay63 Leonard Bernstein, in the documentary 'The Love of Three Orchestras' of 1984, says almost exactly the same about Vienna Philharmonic. And they deserve that epithet very much indeed.
cagin 4 months ago 2

Dionysosable 4 months ago

Thanks for sharing.
