In that system, people is near to have their assistance , and believe me, my family is full of medics and they will be willing to heal whatever they can, because they believe in a health as a service, not a business.

I live in Argentina and we have a quite good free heal system, my father once got a peritonitis and they save his life quite, left the hospital without debt.

Of course the Cuban government is terrible, but to say their healthcare system is bad is a terrible statement. They have a doctor for every 250 families, one on every corner, and have excellent care for their investment. Why not be smart and take their (very few) good ideas, even though we have many more good ideas. A big part of our national debt is healthcare. So much misinformation from the HMO machine/republicans.

What I've seen of Cuban physicians impresses me. I've never been to Cuba but they send their doctors to work in other areas of Latin America where doctors are needed. They've been a blessing here in Honduras and I assume also in other countries where they've worked. That being said, I can't take seriously the line of "every life is important" to Cuban doctors when abortion is legal on demand in Cuba.

@atkm2891 Nations are built by men killing other men in cold blood. This is just the reality. Compassion has nothing to do with being nice and not killing. It is putting yourself behind others. Many people feel Che Guevara did this. Many of us look at the sacrifices he made (material, comfort, high status) as a noble effort. He fought in countries not his own on different continents for one purpose and he was willing to die for it and did die for it. It is this ideal he has come to embody.

If it was any good, people would be allowed the choice to leave it. The revolution destroyed Cuba, and took away individual rights. But it is a cookie cutter way to look at Che. People worked all their days in South America and had their "property" stolen long before Che. Yeah, Batista was corrupt, but Cuba had a GDP equal to Italy's, a large middle class, and some of the highest wages in the world. Batista was authoritarian and entered by coup, but there was freedom of press. Look at Cuba now, they have a dictator, horrible relations with the western world, NO freedom and bad living conditions..

Well, the Havanna in the rule of Fidel is far from great, but was the old Havanna ruled by Batista better? You say yes. But towards whom? Havanna was considered a no mans-land during the rule of Batista, because of the following reasons. The country was ruled as a casino, with a dominant free market which allowed the upper class to take advantage of the economic chaos.

This chaos was of course very lucrative for the corporations that was ran. In my opinion, you should work from the root in a country. The problem was that the poverty in Cuba by this time. Yes, a minor population of Cuba was very wealthty, but you can't despite the fact that a huge part of the population was living in extreme poverty. This resulted in a Revolution, a result to the chaos that was taking place. You can't dement the fact why this happend. This chaos was responded with a Revolution.

@tubingen92 Actually the Helm Burton act is against corporations. Which means Bayer can't sell to bother Cuba and US. Which do the choose? Also ships cannot dock in US ports for 6 months after docking in Cuba, so a lot of ships won't go to Cuba. US also pressures Europe etc not to trade with Cuba. Cuba has difficulty buying medicines because a lot of them have US patents and can't be sold to Cuba. Don't tell me the blockade means nothing.

@deathtrapdeath the problem here is that as a tourist, they would get good healthcare. it's all just a disguise. now, if you were a CUBAN living in cuba, you'd get the bullshit that my family gets. i've been there man. once on a trip to cuba, my sister cut her knee outside of my aunts house (not a tourist area) and needed stitches. the hospital was a DUMP, there was water coming in the front door from a storm earlier that day, and the utencils looked like artifacts from the titanic.
