Sure the constitution had to be changed, but by the LEGISLATURE NOT THE COURTS! Legislatures make law and Courts determine if said law jives with the Bill of Rights or like document which ensures that people aren't made "slaves."

The Constitution doesn't mention the right to own slaves. However, it does mention the right to own property. The Courts have interpreted that to include slaves. That's the point is that McCain wants to have a strict interpretation and that would cause serious human rights violations. The Court is trying to protect rights and he would in effect take those rights away.

Sure the constitution had to be changed, but by the LEGISLATURE NOT THE COURTS! So Whoopi's statement was stupid as it illustrated a lack of understanding of the legal process in a democratic country. Legislatures make law and Courts determine if said law jives with the Bill of Rights or like document which ensures that people aren't made "slaves."
If the courts don interpret the law strictly according to what it says then how do people and law enforcement know what is legal or not?

The Constitution doesn't mention the right to own slaves. However, it does mention the right to own property. The Courts have interpreted that to include slaves. That's the point is that McCain wants to have a strict interpretation and that would cause serious human rights violations. The Court is trying to protect rights and he would in effect take those rights away.

The U.S. Constitution is nothing without a court to interpret it and protect the rights of all Americans equally. In 2009, gays don't have the right to marry and are treated as second class citizens. The U.S. prison system is back-door slavery. People get excessive sentences for victim-less crimes just so the government and corporations can work inmates for about 17 cents an hour. We have an illegal war in Iraq, people are detained without due process rights and the government is spying on us.

They make huge profits and use inmates for slave labor. Inmates get paid 17 cents and hour and produce many goods that are sold in the public market. They also so labor jobs.

The Constitution never sanction slavery.

Yea we got some problems spelling out how we feel consitutionaly and by the letter of the law about gays. I think a polotition should stick to thier guns one way or another. Kinda screwed up to grant a wedding and license one day and revoke it another. A person has the right by Gods own decree to do as they will. We might not agree with it and God might not, but its a persons right to live how they want. I had to keep typing I was stuck on 69 word count and my mind wandered lil nasty.

He was invited 2 b on the show. He wasn't forced 2 b on it. It was free air-time for him. Nothing free goes without a price you really pay, i.e. on a 'talk show', they talk & are known to ask diff. questions. If he can't take the heat, He shouldn't have agreed 2 go in their kitchen.
