It was a Republican debate. I can say with very little doubt, that over 95% of Republicans do not care about that question and it should not have been asked in a Republican Primary debate. Republicans don't plant questions in the Democratic debates. That's why it is a big deal. Say what you want about Fox News, but they have more journalistic integrity than CNN and it is quite obvious after that planted question.

If 95% of Republicans don't care about individual liberty, which is what this question is really about, then I think we are in bad shape as a nation.

The whole point is that the Republicans who spoke on this question don't see gay people as individuals, who have individual rights, but as a group who are defined by their homosexuality. It is easy to justify taking rights away from someone when you see them as part of a group (see the Japanese, African-Americans, or homosexuals).

He should be directing the question at his own candidate.

It was Clinton who implemented Don't Ask don't tell. It has worked. I have not heard any current gay members of the military speaking out against it. It is only those who have no dog in the fight who speak out. Gays are not banned for doing anything. I don't think the system is correct, but it is stupid for the democrats how implemented it to try and blame Republicans for it. Typical Dems.

I don't think anyone was blaming the Republicans for the policy, he was asking if any would end it. As for no gay members of the military speaking out against it, there was an interesting story on 60 Minutes about gays who are speaking out about he policy.

Also, there are the 12,000 who have been thrown out as a result of the policy.

So you don't see anything hypocritical with a question planted by HILLARY CLINTON, trying to make Republicans look bad with a plan that was implemented by HER husband.

I'm sorry, but that is is just stupid and it really takes this debate a step back. CNN has no integrity after letting her plant that question in the debate.

Obviously I don't think Democratic candidates should be planting questions in the Republican debate, or vice versa. If CNN had known the guy supported Hillary, they shouldn't have used the question.

That said, the question is a fair one to ask to ANY candidate. There is nothing wrong with asking Republicans if they would end don't ask don't tell, and there is nothing wrong with asking Democrats the same question.

Also, the question, "Do you change your position from when you said that you would look forward to a day when homosexuals could serve openly in the military," is certainly a loaded question. Because if he did, then that would mean that he doesn't look forward to a day when they could. That could be interpreted as "homosexist."

It seems to me that what would be bad for unit cohesion would be a person who is serving in the military having to deal with the constant worry that if someone should find out he is gay, he will be discharged.

Gay people serve in the military now, so what is the problem with them being able to say they are gay?
