  • Lots of unknown information here. I wonder what the QUALITY of the food consumed in the study was. Conventional animal products contain hormones! If those on the low carb were consuming more animal products (which I'm sure they were) that could be the reason for the mood difference. Also, poor quality animal products are often less dense in nutrients because the animals are not grass fed. Was the low fat diet that was ate including more fruits and vegetables or more grains?

    And after doing low fat and low carb back and forth, I am finally going back to low carb after gain more weight on my current low fat diet.

  • Fruit and vegetables are the only carbs people should generally eat, anything else is simply unnatural. Low carb is way better for both mood and weight loss.

  • This lady is CRAZY! Carbohydrates like pasta, bread, and even rice don't occur naturally in nature---has anyone seen a pasta bush? Yet, the huge mega-corps that make trillions of dollars off carbs continue to hammer it into our brain that we MUST have carbs. This lady is one of their spokespersons!

    Fat doesn't create a insulin response... fat doesn't make you fat! It can't!

    Carbs on the other hand trigger insulin (the growth horomone) and make you retain water (hence carbo-"hydrate").

    Crazy!

  • Pretty much every other study I've seen shows that people lose more weight on a low carb diet, I find it odd that both groups lost the same amount of weight. Was the study done by the AHA or something? They probably just fudged the numbers to make low fat diets look good...and "bad moods" u have go to be kidding me lol that is ridiculous...if u actually objectively study diets, low fat is nonsense

  • About the mood thing on low carb, I find that if I exercise (lifting and running) for half hour daily my mood is great. Definitely lifting some free weights was what made me feel better. Becuase on a low carb diet I lost weight really quickly (35lb in 2 months) that gave me the foothold i needed to get into doing regular excersise quicker.

  • Low carb isn't MEAT ONLY. Most of it just includes cutting out sugar, flour, grain, starch, and high-sugar fruits. You eat protein, veggies, low-carb fruit like berries, melons, apricots, dairy, nuts, all kinds of healthy stuff. Oyyy.

  • Low carb is the only way for me to lose weight, I just wish someone would've told me about it earlier. It's a natural way to lose weight.

  • Low Fat is extremely unpalatable, dangerous and innefective. the Low Carb diets ( even the traditional version of the Atkins diet ) are much more effective in reducing bdofat ( not weight, bodyfat ) improve your bloodwork and of course , put you in good mood everyday , because LC is about eat great and lose weight.

    and YES, atkneers eat apples , berries and broccoli of course.

  • Low carb. LOL..atkins followers eat apples, berries, ect...why ppl think they just eat meat is beyond me. In our society its hard to deny yourself sugers and starches like breads, donuts, candy bars bc its all over and EVERYONE eats it...but most ppl are not at the weight they want to be. If you want to loose weight you HAVE to restrict yourself no matter what diet you follow. Low carb gives you energy and muscle..I stay with that.

  • BTW , there are many low carb bread recipes on internet, I basically eat low carb breads every day and I love it.

  • @zegonzales Like I said, its hard to deny ourselves. Eating a lower carb bread lets us eat what we want with less negative impact on our bodies. lol I shouldnt eat milk or any wheat product...yet I cant stop eating cheese:) And I love a nice garlic bread once in a while.

  • Solutions to the low-carb issues:

    1) Eat high-fiber, nutrient-rich veggies like broccoli, green leafy veggies, and carrots.

    2) Take a multivitamin, and if your mood is low, eat some turkey or take 5-HTP.

    3) Allow yourself one high-carb cheat day per week, and if a social situation comes up, use that day to have cookies and pie.

  • If you are a carb addict, a cheat day a week is like giving an alcoholic a bottle of whiskey once a week. Staying away completely is much easier.

  • @fatisgoodforyou: I think for the most part you are right on about a cheat day. At least for me, a cheat day is like poison. A cheat day for me could easily turn into a 3 day affair. Ciao!

  • Right, I've dropped over 100 pounds on Dr. Atkins lifestyle change and could not be happier! As for my friends, a couple of them made light of my dietary choice in the beginning, but now ask me for advice. You get three guess what that has done for my ego.

  • @TheWildHaggis In your experience, is 45lbs in 2 months possible on atkins? (with strenuous exercise, of course)
