Historically, africans captured, enslaved and sold their own people to the arabs with ships. Some went to America, others to Europe. If these people weren't bought, they would've died. No apology needed thus no reparations required.

It is just part of our American history.

Mr. Douglas. I very much respect your work as an actor. But the U.S. owes an apology to no one. America has fought for, freed, protected, then fed and modernized the world through our foreign aid tax dollars. And what would Dr. King say about gangster rap and criminal athletes? Reperations? Kirk, I commend desire to help Africa, but "we" didn't enslave anybody. "We" don't owe an apology to anybody. No living person in America today had anything to do with slavery. The African slave-trade existed hundreds of years before the U.S. But the U.S. DID make reparations-- fighting a bloody Civil War to end it. Plus U.S. taxpayers have paid billions in social programs to help African Americans. It's time we stopped flagilating ourselves over this!

A Marshall Plan for Africa ... I'd like to hear more of your thoughts on how this could be implemented. Is the world too "modern" for this to work? Last time we just simply did it, asking no advice nor permission. Alas, Europe now seems to have overlooked what we did for them . Reparations may be too late now. Even those who spoke with former slaves are now all gone so the direct connection to that "institution" is now broken. But an apology is never too late.

Apologize by teaching in schools where slavery is barely mentioned. Sanitizing the facts deminishes the act potentially repeating and/or manifesting itself in other ways. South american slaves had the most succesful revolt applying methods found to be superior, where they finally secured freedom. Places like Surinam which had the worst atrocities by corporations are some of the richest today. Which lead to the real debate reparation. I found your comments to be sincere.

Unfortunatly, it took 6 days for water to get to the stadium for black people to live (after the Katrina incident). Cheney's Blackwater security would not allow assistance to these people. If the American gov't won't help out their own citizens, i don't like the odds of assistance going to Africa.

By the way, i've heard from respectable sources that the American gov't is waiting for them to die of aids, then offer assistance to gain control of the resources. Sorry Mr.Douglas.
