Tony, this song is one of my favorite songs from the eighties. I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I couldn't stop singing it. It's just a great, uplifting, fun song. Any chance for a Monroes reunion?
Hi Tony. I bought the album when I first heard the song back when I was about 12 years old. Years later, when I went away to college, I brought the album with me. I used to love to play the song for people that I was pretty sure had never heard it. Everyone I played it for loved it and was blown away when they heard it. Great memories. One of the greatest song ever. Thank you for making it.... woover101
Tony, I guess you know now how much this song means to a lot of us who remember it from the summer of 1982 and the fact that you are here reading this on youtube is fantastic!
Mr. Ortiz, I want to tell you and your band what an awesome song you have. It is so relate able. I was a Junior in High School when this came out. I was into a sweet girl at the time and she was giving me half her time, because she had a boyfriend that would not break up with her. Anyways, your song described that on/off again romance we had. Im 46 and when I hear your song, I go back to 1982 again.
Hello Mr Ortiz, I heard your song today on Sirius Radio with Martha Quinn. Damn what a cool upbeat song. Thanks so much. You guys did a great job. It brings a smile to my face and gets my feet tapping. I just had to look you guys up here on youtube.
@jlcontarino I really like this Band..and the song is great.....I have never heard it before, was my head in the sand,i'm very pleased a professional musician put this up,and for a great reason......LOVE IT...Thank you..Donna Worden....
I know this song is in running in my consciousness because it comes front and center into my head when I need to make discussions about that involve using my heart and the fuzz we work through when working on that level.
hey Tony sounds great! I didnt realize in an article I read about you guys that you knew Sam Lopez back in the day. I got to play in a jazz band with him for a couple years in the eighties and early 2000's. Never got a chance to play with Larry.
Love this song! I first listened to it on my Living In Oblivion 80's new wave/pop/rock compilation cds in 1994. Great song! I finally got to see ya guys; my curiosity was fulfilled!
Great classic performance Tony! I remember watching that show live. Did you write that song? My band has covered that tune but we haven't played it in about a year. Definitely time to get it back in the rotation.
How would you feel about a band doing a cover of your song? I am an '80s nut, but somehow your song slipped through my fingers until today when it was played on XM. A band mate and I were floored and thought that we must do this! As the singer, I cannot wait to sing it. We are recording our originals, but plan to put this on the list if you are ok with that. :)
Thanks for posting Tony - as others have commented it's a timeless, well crafted pop song and always puts a smile on my face and gets my foot tapping. Brings back fond memories of listening to WLIR in NY; in fact I think this track was scream of the week.
I visualised skinny ties and winkle-pickers when I heard this on radio---and it was on a 1994 CD compilation alongside XTC and Altered Images---so I sat up a bit when I saw the video. Guess I didn’t catch Merv that day---not that it would’ve mattered. Great song.
Here is a serious question. You guys sounded great. Why did they make you sing to a track and not let the band play? Just want you to know this really is one of my all time favorite songs. I would probably put it in my top 20. I want to thank you for posting this video as it is very rare to find an actual video of you guys singing this live. Rock on.
I cannot get enough of this song!!! I am so excited to be hearing it again after so long!! Thank you Monroes for making this fantastic song. It would be awesome to hear it live and see the band together again!
@LunaGrl79 : Same here. I heard this song played on SLACKER radio and it brought back so many good memories. I have added it to my ipod and will be in heavy roation at home now!
I was the lead singer for the Monroes and i thank you and the guys thank you! Would you like an mp3 of WDATPK send me your email address and i will send you the song.
@monro5600 Hey Tony - Patrick Dempsey here from Minneapolis. I was huge fan of the song back in 82 - I was in 6th grade and heard it on either WLOL of KDWB when I was still a radio music junkie as a kid. It was on heavy radio play around here back in those days. I met Eric at his Guitar Trader store a few years back when I was on assignment in San Diego. And read in the paper that you and rusty were thinking of doing some gigs again.
Anyway, good to know you are around and doing well!!
Awesome! Now a video of the actual group performing is up! All there was before was the video of random stuff and NJ band Modern Fear! Cool to see to real deal doing their thing in 1982 (and whenever he does a show nowadays)!
hi tony!have an 11yr old that loves this song.hard to believe after the years it still pulls new fans, even young ones.it was awesome then and still awesome now!!jared days hi!
Cool. I remember stumbling across this ep of the MG show while staying at my grandparents house in El Cajon (for some odd reason, Merv often had cool music on there). I got the EP @ Tower the next day. As I recall, this was played quite a bit on 91X. Glad to see the real thing on here.
I have always thought this song was great. One of my eighties favorites that makes it on to all my compilation cds. I always wanted to hear it live as the original recording seemed pretty "studio" to me. I didn't think the harmonies would sound good live. Boy was I wrong. It's better live as one gets to see the serious talent this band has. I like the song far far more after viewing this.
The synth riff at 2:20 is awesome. The whole performance is awesome.
I wanted to mention that I've now met Tony, the lead singer, twice when he comes here to visit in California, and that he has a really catchy CD that he just released. Already listened to it all the way through a couple of times. His songs are very catchy and fun to sing to, and his voice sounds great. I also heard him singing Beatles songs at a party, and he really does have a good voice.
@gloryofwar82 I like "new wave" music, but I'm not a fan of the skinny ties, etc., so I'm glad that none of the group members had that kind of look in this performance, other than maybe the keyboardist.
@kcufmalsi I also recall getting up in the morning for high school, turning on WNEW, 102.7 Rock Station outta New York, and hoping, really praying to hear this timeless 'gemstone' of a track! For whatever reason, I remember that finding this on wax was nearly impossible back then, something about the label at the time going 'under', something along those lines, just a true, pure Classic tune that'll never grow old! God Bless Ya, Tony!!
This song should have been a much bigger hit. Still sounds great today. I took my 45's and recorded them all onto CD's years ago. Many of them like this one are now on my IPod.
LOVE this song... I wish I could find the other song the Monroes had which appeared on the 91X Sand Aid album... "Stones Against the Rain" was such a great song... I think that one should have been a hit as well. Sadly, I only have the vinyl version of the album, and my turntable died. :-(
@monro5600 Tony, it's cool to talk to you. I did not know this song back in 1982 ( i was a jr in high school), but i discovered it later on a new wave compilation CD. I hope you are getting good royalties from it! Awesome song...love the two lead vocals. You guys blend well 2gether.
Great Video and great Song. Jonnie is my cousin and I remember when I would go to my "tia Nena's" home and bang on his Drums. Miss those days Primo. Congrats to all the Monroe's. Sincerely.
Too bad I can't buy this song on itunes. It is a song that hasn't been killed by the radio. A forgotton hit of the 80's that came and went during a time when Chistopher Cross was a big thing.
Tony, this song is one of my favorite songs from the eighties. I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I couldn't stop singing it. It's just a great, uplifting, fun song. Any chance for a Monroes reunion?

Too bad I can't buy this song on itunes. It is a song that hasn't been killed by the radio. A forgotton hit of the 80's that came and went during a time when Chistopher Cross was a big thing.
