A good example of the "Men always deserve abuse in the media" theory is present in the recent Transformers movies. In Transformers 2, an antagonistic bureaucrat (male) is frequently mocked by the soldiers around him and then abandoned in a desert, while in Transformers 3, a woman in a similar role, faces little to no resistance from her male peers, and ultimately winds up in a fulfilling relationship at the end (if I remember correctly, I know things turn out well for her).

This is right on the money...the hitting part anyways. I had a girl wallop me across the face when I was 8 or 9 simply because I ignored her...and when I turned to go back at her (ironically my mother had taught me that if someone hits me, I should hit them back), some asshole (it was a guy) who had witnessed the whole thing from his balcony yelled to me "hey, boys don't hit girls!"

@PimpernellP I've said elsewhere that It's principally because men have an under-developed sense of self. In other words, men don't tend to care very much about themselves or their own needs whereas in contrast, women tend to care ONLY about themselves and their own needs.

It is this awful dynamic between the sexes that leads such imbalances in society, and in particular, it leads to discrimination against men and misandry.

But lots of times, women are caused injury due to accidents and not intentions in this show. So it's still a decent example while it has examples of subversion.
