  • My mom will kick my ass if I spent $150 on a simple cable for christmas.

  • A $150 power cord between the wall outlet and your amp that is better than the wiring in your walls is nuts.

What matters is that you have a good contact and decent wire gauge for the given use.

Only high current applications need thick wire gauge to eliminate heat buildup in the wire and voltage drop.

E.g. for a microwave oven (1200W) I used a three-prong extension cord sold as being for air conditioners.

Is your amp anywhere near 1200W? Sheesh ...

  • I wonder how one of these things would work with a hybrid amp such as the Super Champ XD i bought? SCXD sounds good but not quite a Princeton Reverb.

  • lul, youtube moved all the txt.

  • good demo :)

  • nice man that one awesome little machine!! man I have a question what pick ups are you using on that guitar

  • When people ask me who my Guitar Teacher is i simply answer : David T.

  • that big cable is a bunch of hype . it makes no difference at all, especially since it's all running on low power , not like running a air condition or something .

  • Regarding the b-283, this is no effect box. So, basically, what yo will be experiencing is a better sound quality on your SS amp. If you use pedals, the unit must be set up right before the amp input (i dont have efects loop either). And be careful on where you place the cables, or you will hear very unpleasant crackling sounds through the amp. But, the thing gives a heavenly sound to an otherwise lifeless solid state. Thanks, GF and David.

  • I have one of these but it doesn't work like it should I can't here any difference in the sound. Is there something wrong.

  • Hey, this thing is quite impressive. I just got mine, and it give a huge boost to my ss amp. And mine is a Marshall G30R, which is not very powerful. So If you own a more powerful amp, it will do great. The tube sound is impressive.

  • hi dudes last night i was playing a gig and they had a low voltage followed by a blackout . and my solid state amp died . now the lights come on but i dont get any sound from the amp what is the problem??????

  • I own a B-283 because of you David . THANK YOU , Thank You , thank you ..... I LOVE IT ! I'm using it from a Boss CE-5 pedal going into the B-283 and the to two different solid state amps (1x8 and 1x10) . It's GREAT ! ! ! .... PS I used 4 radio shack 274-909 to go in and out of the B-283 .

  • where do i put it if i have no effects loop in my amp, can i jst make it as a prerouting effect or does it have to go through the effects loop

  • 3 Questions from the land downunder.

Is this truthfully good, in your opinion, for a solid state amps ( it is difficult to hear engoung details over the internet). and

Can you run it in line before the amp. I dont have an fx loop.? and

Would I be better spendind money on the Blackheart Little Giant 5 watt tube amp. If you dont know this amp go to Youtube as it has really impressed me for $ 250.

    Cheers.

  • its a realllllyyy smaallll difference :S

  • Sounds pretty good...

  • Idk if this is quite worth it. . .

  • Do you have Kemo?

  • Does it come with a power cable? Or do you have to buy that special one?

  • Are there any controls on it or dose it just have an on and off switch, and is it very noisy incase I want to use it as a mic pre for recording?

P.S I love your videos keep up the good work :)

  • dude is it just me or can you guys hear the clean sound in the background while he powers the preamp. If you pay attention you can hear clean with distortion on top. That does not sound right to me. Its either dirty or clean i dont want to hear them battle each other.

  • those tubes look small can they handle 100 watts? could i put bigger tubes in to handle more abuse will i blow them out at high volumes with distortion lol be nice im a solid state 17 year old kid who cant afford a marshall tube amp

  • The power section of your amp doesn't feed into this thing, it'll feed into your amp's power section. So it'd work equally well with an amp of any wattage.

  • I have used this thing and does not increase your volume. It decreases the volume befor it is switch on. He's not tell the truth.

  • you can make that cable for under 29 bucks

  • Take that phuckin hat'' off !!! & show everyone that bald head of yours ... teo fist McGee got up behind him and gave him both fist at once and all his hair fell out !!!! LMFAO''''!!!! buy this fukin cable" @4:17 he say's "look at the SIZE of this sucker" it's bigger/fatter than his johnson..ha ha

  • stink pickles4all such a inviting treat dont you all think??? ofcouse not!!!! this phucko's more interested in debate over trivial option's than the suggested offering from the above listed video... allhis posts are this kinda thing... he most likely is one fo those know it all'' from reading it in a magazine..rather than hands on trial and error folk like most of use ... Like dime said ..its that weird thing that make you wanna kringe like nails on a chalk board thats the kwelest of all..!!!

  • i looked it up as soon as i have the money i am getting one

  • the tube preamp is for 150

  • "they sell this cable for about 150$, YOU SHOULD REALLY CONSIDER IT!", yeah right lol...

  • $120 solid state amp + $130 Grant Fidelity tube + $100 power cord = $350. Hmm add a few more dollars and you can get a nice Tube head ie.. Crate or maybe Peavey..

  • ha. he advertises that cord everytime ha (:

  • Yeah preamp tubes in a solid state is a waste of time, that warm tube sound actually comes from the power not the preamp. Though it is one of the best marketing ideas lol

  • It just seems like you need a practice amp that's equip t with an effects loop however. It's stupid to take a tube preamp and run it through a solid state preamp! By using the effects loop you bypass the solid state preamp. So result is tube preamp driven by a solid state power amp. Which is OK because power amp distortion only occurs at dimed out volumes. So you normally don't use power tube distortion in a practice situation anyway.

  • @osensei2987 very nice ..and true !!!

  • I have owned a Sovtek MIG 50 tube amp for about 12 years....i will never part with it...tubes are massive!

  • You know this thing combined with a cost of a solid state = enuff money to buy a peavey valveking, dont yo agree?

  • Yes, but everyone that buys this product may not need to by an amp. Rather, they might be looking for a solution. For example they may be in need of a recording solution were they can't blast a loud ass tube amp in order to get the desired tone. Or they may want a more genuine tube tone at lower volumes as in practice at home. This should sound more genuine than putting a pedal on a tube amp to get lower "bedroom" volume distortion.

  • @DoubleHeliX1337 ..yEAH ..WHAT alot of guy do is just waste cash... trying to make a bad sounding amp nto a good tube tone... like trying to breed out the jackarse out of a donkey & get a horse again .... now i could see slamming this pedal into a SS amp's effect if you were owning/in-use of like a warhead or something more high end custom SS amp??? maybe

  • Anyone know what guitar that is?

  • big apple fender stratocaster

  • Didn't they change the name from "Big Apple Strat" to "Double Fat Strat"?

  • i have never heard of them changing it but double fat strat makes sense

  • I preferred the sound without the pre-amp

  • Who dislikes tubes?

  • you don't have to dislike tubes to prefer the tone of solid state in certain contexts

  • Totally agree

  • Is $150 for a power cable REALLY worth it?

  • They bought him off.

He doesn't lie very well... he didn't seem really sure about it. I "did notice a little difference in sound"...

  • They had to've. Its a freaking power cord!

  • @randumbtimes3 NO!!!!!!!

  • Where can i get one

  • When buying a volume pedal keep in mind that it requires a LOT of maintenance! I mean everyday stuff!

  • I Didn't buy one for that reason,I wouldn't

have had time what with all the maintenance on

my tube amp and discombobulating the hinges on

    my head stock!

  • What you mean "maintenance"?

What will i have to do to keep it in work?

  • Ask freedevos.

  • hospital-grade.

  • If you want a great guitar sound you have to drive the power amp!!!

  • Not true. True if you want a nice clean sound, and a AC/DC rock kind of sound, but with Metal and Shred, very little Power Amp is used.

  • Let's agree to disagree,keep rockin'anyhow.

  • Then how come the Peavey 5150 en the Engl amp's are commonly used in heavy bands? Not to mention Mesa Boogie? I agree with you that not all heavy bands are using tubes, but quite al lot of them are.

  • Guitar tube amps sound best with the power section cranked as that's where most of that natural distortion occurs. Any serious musician knows that tube amps are the way to go as solid state and, god forbid, modelling amps just can't achieve that same character and feel that a well built tube amp can. I've never had a line 6 shake me like a Soldano can. Tube amps always will be industry standard with solid state and hybrid amps always falling short.

  • nice little tube box!!

i really want it for my CD player though...

I don't got a guitar amp at home!!!

    Nice work david~!

    greetings from Hong Kong

  • whats biasing?

  • Ever heard of Google?

For Christ's sake, the first search result is the Wikipedia entry that tells you all about it. I can't wait until people start answering their own questions by doing 5 seconds of their own research.

  • im sure alot of us can't wait untill we stop seeing people getting raged at for asking a question.

  • fuck me? obviously you've had something bad happen to you so you go around venting your anger to people on youtube. most of the time ppl who ask questions on here dont get them answered. like the person's question you commented to, his question has not been answered so not many "idiots" are being "catered" to as you so say.

  • And the way you obtain information is to...follow this now... ...ASK QUESTIONS. Moron.

  • No, the way you obtain information is through your own independent study. It takes just as long to type a question on YouTube as it does to search for something on Google. People are just lazy, and would prefer everything spoonfed to them instead of learning for themselves.

  • lol... independent study is code for "i'm too arrogant to admit I dont know it all" because all your doing is just secretly asking questions...

  • do you know how stupid you sound. i don't think you do, so... let me break it down. "Catering to an idiot" is called "pity" in most cases. Also, if someone could answer a question they had, it wouldn't be a question would it? More like a statement. This is why people ask questions, because they cannot answer the question themselves. Unless its a rhetorical question like the one i just asked of course.

not trying to be an a**

    just pointing out your faults.

  • Your argument is invalid.

Please refer to the original question that I responded to. Go to Google and type in "what is biasing"...........look at that! There's the answer. If the person that had originally asked this had done the same, we wouldn't be having this debate. I don't know why people ask questions on YouTube and forums when they could "ask" Google and get the answer instantly. My guess is that the education system failed them so poorly that they're unable to think for themselves.

  • People ( myself included) ask questions on youtube and forums because they dont know the answer. Its simple, one would posts a video to youtube or other sites to let something be known or to provide a service. Then, people watch the videos and have questions about the video ( specific or general) and as the youtube community generally being a polite group, answers these questions. If you would like to be an asshole and banter then I suggest you do it somewhere else.

  • You still aren't grasping my point.

If someone has a question, they can type that question into Google and get their answer immediately, instead of waiting for someone else to answer them. It is this type of inquisitive nature that is missing from youth today. They rely too heavily on getting information from others, rather than relying on their own resourcefulness.

  • True, but say someone is looking to buy a really good amp and they want to be sure that they're paying for what they're looking for, there could be pros and cons with that amp, that was so good on the web. But after they asked a few first hand sources (IE:people,) it turned out not be be such a good amp after all. + people might not need the answer straight away but want to get it down before they forget it. Frankly, i think you kind of wasted your time writing about shit. LOL. Matt

  • this tube thing, i'm tired of it. in the past good quality tube amps didn't add coloration or distortion, now the more the better, ptssss

  • why wouldnt you just get a solid state fender with good wattage then if all you wanted was clean and not have to worry about tube maintenance

  • I don't know of anyone with a tube amp who

"worries" about maintenance, thats just silly, and also the clean sound of a Fender tube amp is usually a lot richer than that of

    a solid state amp.

  • i know :) but just a side note not everyone wants a rich sound they want a balsy type of metal sound

  • no your dumb travman102 is right, I'm constantly changing my amps oil. maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. lol

  • I know,I know,and those dam spark plugs!

  • sounds expencive

  • I also polish it every week and I take it with me when I visit my mom's. After diner I take it for a walk in the park. Tapping it on it's leather back every once in a while!

    Cheers!

  • Whata cunt

  • why do all the videos w/ the weird looking dude, jason(?), have their comments disabled? Is it because of jerks like me that are just dying to make fun of his hair on one of his movies?

  • its because people will eventually say,

    "nice chops, mr. vorhees"

  • y do u disable the comments on every novie with jason- i want to ask questions

  • is a volume pedal woth the investment?. .cool vid btw

  • Volume pedals are great, i use one and i can´t live without it.

  • Just buy one on Ebay or something and try it. I bought one for 30 euros...

  • @rockongoodpeople you acutely answer the questions on youtube? anyways i have a blue delatone guitar it has two buttons for tone and one for volume and i have a California amp with (input) (gain) (boost) (volume) (treble) (mid) (bass) (phone) and a on & off switch but it dosent sound vary good or even like an electric guitar i just got it yesterday and was wonder how to use them and what they do probably a stupid question but im just starting out

  • @rockongoodpeople You can be session musican and also guitar tech to many great, like Keef, The Edge, Clapton!

  • @rockongoodpeople Also do you think you guys can make a video about the difference between solid state and active pick ups?

  • @colombobogota You mean passive and active pick-ups.

  • @MarshallRoberts ohh yea hahah thats right

  • the link doesn't work

  • I hope you do read the comments so you or maybe someone else can answer my question.

I would like to know if there are some videos around on youtube where you just play improvisations/songs or whatever? I don´t mean lessons. Just simple playing.

    Thx alot.

  • Hi - yes, we do improv on some videos - check out all our vids - just click on "see all" at the bottom of the screen on the right

    rock on!

    DT

  • hey can u please do a video of the digitech rp90 and show kewl ways to use thnx...

  • what should you do if your amp doesnt have a efx loop?? can you plug it straight into the input?

  • No - the tube processor does not power so putting it through the effects loop works well - check out part 1 of this lesson and I explain in depth - its on youtube also.

    rock on!

    DT

  • are there any pre amps you would recamend what can be plugged in the front for the amp(no fx loop) to give it a tube like sound

  • nice tone.

  • Once again another great review.

  • hey david, im new in this stuff of playing guitar and so.... i like it very much as longer ive been playing... but i have a question does fender has a regular series of stratocaster with 2 humbuckers.... instead 3 single coils?.... i know there is a HSS... but i mean with 2 humbuckers..... how much the one of this video?.....

    Thx

    Asnoldo

  • Nope, they used to sell HH Strats until about 2006, and then they stopped.

  • Wrong. Jaguar's are HH's.

  • Hi - in this lesson I am using a USA made Fender BIG APPLE stratocaster, came stock with 2 seymore duncan humbuckers - Fender only made this model for a couple of years in the mid 90s. Check ebay for used ones. Fender did also make mexican made strats with dual humbuckers.

    rock oN!

    DT

  • nice vid

  • Was that Pearl Jam's Alive at the start? - Sounded sweet!

  • hey dave i do like the reviews, but wheres the lessons? the how to's? different ways of playing notes, hammer on's, pulloffs, trills, etc all that? where it all go?

  • A 150$ for a cable is a bit too much for me at least...

  • love ur reviews

  • Great review as per usual. I like the reviews but also miss the actual lessons ala DAVE. I find that his lessons are the easiest to follow of all the instructors on the net. Yes I have already purchased all the DVD lesson sets but WANT MORE lessons by

    Dave, dammit.

  • i love that guitar
