1 - Please attempt explain to yourself why on earth you found it necessary to make sure I received your short and non educational opinion. If you feel you have to do so again, don't because you're wrong and repeat step one.
There are easier ways to evaluate quadratic polynomials, but I doubt there are any _cooler_ ways to evaluate them.
However, I would have thought that someone capable of constructing a difference engine from Legos would have been able to build a tripod for his or her video camera.
Can you make an LDD file of this machine? You even stated on your web site that you designed it so it would be easy for others to build their own engines.
My feet are freezing because this has knocked my socks off ! Congratulations on a fantastic creation. How much do you want for prints and/or instructions?
I do love this video, and everything that it embodies. I am a LEGO fan thru and thru. And have studied my history of ancient mechanical computers, such as you other Antikythera Mechanism. Hero did some great things with automation in the theater. But, with all the hard work, you could have also built a tripod out of LEGOs, or if you ran out... at least some paper towel tubes and duct tape. Barely a 'fail' at all... but with everything already said, I felt like throwing in my two cents.!!
@DrGoodwrench64 It does work. If you watch the video it's outputting the table for the polynomial x^2 for values of X from 2 through 8; the results being 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64.
I could do the same by just putting the correct numbers on the dial faces and turning the crank to show the numbers. Gear reduction along the way would let me display them in the order I chose. So the machine wouldn't be "calculating" anything. It would just be a bunch of gears in a box.
If we knew the gear ratios of each section and what each section does, the progression of data from 1 section to the next and the algorithms in each, operation could be confirmed, without it, it can't.
Ok, so you built a big gearbox. Without explaining what we're looking at or at the very least what the problem was, how do we know that it works? And before you ask, YES. I read the discription. without seeing how you set up the problem or any explaination of how it's programmed, it's just a box of lego gears.
Yes but feeling the need to talk like that because he doesn't understand something...
I absolutely loathe people who are figuratively speaking taught about the chemical properties of Oxygen and then go "Pfff Oxygen is lame I wish It didn't exist so I wouldn't have to learn this..." because it makes me want to suffocate those people just as they wished and I would if it was legal.
@Cityj0hn wow that's super arrogant, you use the fastest computer in the world and you probably don't know much about it, its called your brain, that is if if you have one, prick.
@Cityj0hn I'm glad you are a super genius...and that you feel the need to take tests "regularly" in order to convince yourself of this notion.. But on planet earth, telling someone that they are "rather limited" based on their ignorance of Baggage is extremely arrogant. Not everyone needs to know every detail of history and science to be a smart person, and when you thrust your knowledge on a subject over someone else in a condescending way you only show off your pride and aren't helping anyone.
I'm sorry, but I just had to comment. If your first language is not English, please forgive me, but you made so many grammatical mistakes that I laughed.
It's spelled "sheer" in this context.
The correct word is brain's.
Capability's is not a word, capabilities is.
Quantum should not be capitalized here.
Your entire post is one sentence, which makes it a run-on sentence. That's ungrammatical.
You wrote "I have am a". Under no circumstances does that make any sense.
@Cityj0hn We have informatics at school and we barely mentioned him. I also doubt you're going to explain a lot of what C. Babbage was, or his machine to your grandmother trying to become computer literate. People should know, but ask 100 people about who Babbage was and you'll see what I mean.
No but you should know you made a mistake. By not reading the original comment I responded to you have wrongly concluded my correspondence to be about knowledge. You should not feel ashamed about it unless you fail to learn from it.
The other person should feel ashamed for saying this video is a FAIL because he doesn't understand what it is that is shown in the video while Babbage also created the very thing he is using to burn someone else who does.
now - you have to start with the 1st difference BEFORE the initial value in the second row, as the third row gets added to the second before the second is added to the first, giving you the correct difference to add.

But not nearly as spectacular as your answer given to a question that was never asked and your failed slam.
You remind of the guy that pulls the pin on the granade, then throws the pin and ducks.
Way to take one for the team and thin the heard at the same time!
LOL!

Wow. The ignorance is so thick it'll reduce your bandwidth by 90%!
You're all EPIC FAILURES.
Fuck, you guys are dumber than rocks. Did I say "what is it?"
NO! I know what it's SUPPOSED to be. And yes, I know who Babbage was.
But none of that tells me this thing works as claimed. So you really DON'T know if it works or if its just a bunch of Lego gears.
Until then, you simps are EPICLY RETARDED FAILURES for not comprehending what was plainly written.

You must be really limited, not knowing Babbage is the father of modern day computers is a big gap in your history lessons.
Classes and courses and even books and learning materials are still being named after him in ICT and IT...
Epic fail, using a computer and not knowing where it came from.

@AlexLee256
Oh I see why it has to be
004 03 02
now - you have to start with the 1st difference BEFORE the initial value in the second row, as the third row gets added to the second before the second is added to the first, giving you the correct difference to add.
I should have read up before asking =P
