Republican paramilitaries were responsible for 2152 deaths, The security forces were responsible for 367 deaths. 1000 people were killed by loyalists also. Internal Affairs should have brought these individuals up on charges and fired!!! NI was key to NATO during the cold war because the Republicans are socialist in nature and the last thing NATO wanted was another Cuban missile crisis on their doostep (cold war parnoia) so there was an element of protecting interests there. The actual soldiers were patrolling the Catholic areas in the 60's to protect them from attacks from the then majority protestant community.

@Praventore Yes it is. It's from the documentary sunday about bloody sunday in Derry where 14 nationalist marchers were killed in Derry. The brits were in the wrong but it did not happen the way it is presented. One of the relatives of one of the victims was involved in the production process of this film. It's all just propaganda.

The British were introducing reforms to democratise society during the brutal war there. During one illegal demonstration during the war 14 marchers were killed by the british military. Glenane Gang 87 murders, British Army Force Research Unit 14 innocent Catholics murdered. Prisoners at H-Block tortured, Aug 69- Loyalists/RUC burn down the dwelling of 1, 505 Catholics, killing 8 and injuring 750. What bothers me is in a photo of the burning dwellings there were NO firemen/trucks!!! My point stats are BS!!!!!

Republican paramilitaries were responsible for 2152 deaths, The security forces were responsible for 367 deaths. 1000 people were killed by loyalists also. Stats tell the story of who the most violent groups were. The stats contradict the idea put about by republicans that it was the brits who were the terrorists.

I'm not saying this is so in this situation but I will do my own research. 1969 in NI 1,500 Catholics were burnt out of their homes killing 8 and injuring over 750. My point is the RUC took part in this action, did nothing to stop this action, and did not notify the local fire department to respond and put the fires out. I think you know why?

@jonoessex I don't know if my reply to this worked. It is the RUC's responsibility as Constables/Policemen to protect and serve, protect life and property. They failed to do so in a big way. Internal Affairs should have brought these individuals up on charges and fired!!! It is quite possible that the residents did call but because of who they were did not get the response they should have gotten.

@jonoessex First of all the RUC are responsible for these fires. Their actions and in actions allowed this to happen. Quick response to this event would probably have saved the 8 lives killed and the 750 wounded. How about those stats? In the photos I have seen the buildings are ablaze and burning out of control. This takes time. I am not accusing the fire brigade of anything. I think if they were called out by the RUC they would have done their job with professionalism.

I'm not justifying the actions of the soldiers but the IRA created the atmosphere of violence (not represented in this propaganda film) in which these killings took place.

NI was key to NATO during the cold war because the Republicans are socialist in nature and the last thing NATO wanted was another Cuban missile crisis on their doostep (cold war parnoia) so there was an element of protecting interests there. The actual soldiers were patrolling the Catholic areas in the 60's to protect them from attacks from the then majority protestant community.

The Canadians & Ozzies hide away in the West handing out candy to the kids. On top of this, we fought in Iraq, Falklands (bayonet fighting), Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Borneo etc. UK is so battle hardened that during the entire 20th century, the only year a Brit wasn't killed was in 1968

Fucking propaganda bullshit! The commander of the Paras from what I read NEVER gave the order to cease fire directly. In fact, he cheered them on! And no Irishman EVER pulled out a gun and shot back. Everyone in the march was unarmed. Even the few IRA members present.

@civilwarfreak1 Read the saville inquiry. Colonel wilford didn't cheer them on. IRA snipers admitted to the saville inquiry that they fired on british soldiers on the march. Some of the soldiers were also injured by acid bombs. Martin mcguiness according to saville was probably armed with a sub-machine gun which he may have fired. It isn't black and white!

My dad did 2 detchments with UK SAS and i know at least one of those was to NI.
His attitude was the Parra's acted wrongly and as in Vnam charges should have been brought.
Many in SAS and SASR (Aust) also felt the same.
dads dead now cancer - agent orange.

i am always torn in 2 by this action my family comes from Ireland and Scotland way back in the 1800s before they came to Australia, we have had people serve in the ADF since 1916 and i have a brother who has done tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and Timor, so i have immense respect for the services HOWEVER as at Me Lai good men can do BAD things.

number 1 SLRs do have a auto fire feature as well as single shot - ask the SASR (like my Dad) in Vietnam he preferred it over the M16 due to reliability and SINGLE SHOT AND MULTI SHOT ACCURACY.

@Lipton16 Yeah it was a pretty dark day in our history but at the same time you have to remember that the IRA carried out somepretty terrible attacks on civilians aswell . I remember when they planted a car bomb at the old fairhill market and gave the police false information on where it was planted, then when the british soldiers evacuated the civilians out the opposite gate the IRA set the bomb off injuring alot of people including children .
