"The cheese in the suitcase bit comes off really mean-spirited without a laugh-track. The father comes off as just an old bastard, Deborah as a 24/7 bitch and Raymond as a spiteful child."
I had a friend once say that if Everybody Loves Raymond didn't have a laugh track, it would be the most depressing show on TV. I think this validates that claim lol.
@jmswlks you're cool. How can I be like you??

It wasn't a laugh track, it was a live studio audience. You edited out real laughs, not fake ones the studio puts on afterwards.

That comes out even with the laugh-track

What must filming this be like? Is it in front of an audience, if not it would be so hard to act like that. Leaving the pauses.

God, this show is unfunny. The lack of a laugh track proves it even more.

Plus every show needs a laugh track to really make it funny.

@PBMuDrGu
It's human nature, when somebody laughs, things get a bit funnier. But ELR was always funny imo.

@PBMuDrGu Judd Apatow had a whole dialogue about that on Knocked Up.
