Even though you may be used to her playing around, I think a lot of us can't help thinking that maybe she is flipping back over because she can't take being on her back. Then she's being grabbed and forced back into that same position. I myself could only watch just about the first 30 secs. I usually hold my bunnies firm and have someone else trim their nails.
I would suggest that those of you who do not like this video, go to ARBA.net -- the website of the American Rabbit Breeders Association. This is the correct way to handle a rabbit. And this rabbit is a sweetie ... she loves to play and "mess" with my daughter. She has malocclusion, which is a condition of the teeth. Most breeders would have killed her when she was born. We do not "cull" our rabbits, we let them live happy lives!
Maybe my rabbits are weird, but they love being on their backs.
I have one that will nip at your feet to be picked up to lay it on its back, just so you will stroke his belly. The rabbit in this video didn't seem to mind being on its back. It was likely not used to having its nails clipped and so it got a little frightened.
lets start with the bunny not being comforted you kept trying to lay it on its back the table probaly was hurting its back most of the time the rabbit back isn't straight plus to comfort the rabbit rub the bridge of its noise and it may go into a trace if the rabbit won't let you at all(my female rabbit wont let me but my male rabbit will stay still while i do it) or cover its eyes but leave room to breathe if the bunny cant see it will stay still but talk while you cut to comfort it.
i hav a lion head. i clip his nails 2. u dont need 2 put them on the back to do so. u rap them in a towel with space 2 breath then take 1 paw out at a time n cut it... i hav a big iguana also n thats how i clip her nail 2... FYI. ur rabbit is not that bad... u should try doing that with a 5ft iguana...
I'm not suprised that the rabbit gets angry. A rabbit doesn't like to be on his back.
when i Clip the nails of rabbits the sit just straight up on a blanket. And i have (most of the times) no problems clipping.
And when you pick them up in there neck is is hurting, its getting brused. The best way of picking up you rabbit is have one hand right behind his front legs and the other under his but.
@Mickjeblikje This is the proper and accepted way to "flip" a rabbit and she's not pulling the ears or the neck. Sticky Bun plays this game every time we have her out!
that bitch of a rabbit? thank god you didn't break it's back. Yes i know what i'm taking about too, i'm and exotic vet tec and your an idiot. Try to be a little more human.
@TheBelleriver Sorry , when your pissed off because someone's mistreating an animal you could care less if a "d" was added to a word. Grow up and get a better come back.
For goodness sake everyone! She is NOT picking this rabbit up by the ears!!!! You hold the ears steady against the scruff and turn it over. Check with the American Rabbit Breeders Association ... arba.net
Yes, she is a Thrianta. Out of our National Champion line.
Her name is "Sticky Sweet Bun" ... because she is a big sweetie!!
Hey all, I will be taking vet tech classes and have my animal restraint textbook right here. It says you should NEVER pick up a rabbit by the ears because it is painful for the rabbit and can cause it damage.
You should pick it up by the scruff of the neck instead.
That's not a big rabbit. She only weighs about 6 pounds. A big rabbit would be a checkered giant or flemish giant which could weigh more than 12 pounds, there are many other recognized breeds (in America) that are quite large.
Thank you. Some of the comments are rather ignorant. Especially considering we have several "handicapped" rabbits that most people would have gotten rid of to a meat market. We can't bear that thought, so we take care of them, make them comfortable, and love them. This video was supposed to be funny. This rabbit likes to play and we love her very much.
No, rabbits don't need shots. All they need is their nails clipped. They make wonderful pets. We have one that is house-trained and NEVER drops a rabbit poo outside of his cage. In fact, if he's out, when he has to pee or poo, he runs like crazy for his cage! Good luck ... I think you'll enjoy your rabbit! They're great friends!
why does that woman whose face we cannot see here, hate rabbits so much? that rabbit is just sooooo adorable, how can anybody with a heart hate him/her?
@MsLizard50 I'm tempted to try it, but I don't think mine will like that. I'll have to stick to my method of wrapping her in a towel and pulling feet out of the folds to clip.
@MsLizard50 Rabbits don't like laying on their backs- that's why they struggle! It makes them feel insecure. A more humane way of clipping their nails is to wrap them in a towel to make a "bunny burrito" so they feel safe and to have the paw that you're clipping hanging out of the towel. I'm sure you do love your bunnies and that one looks super healthy! But there are ways to keep them happier :)
Are you people blind? She's not grabbing the rabbit by her ears! I don't know much about rabbit shows [my buns aren't show buns, just snuggle buns.] but the person in the video isn't hurting the rabbit.
I just now have seen this video and the comments. I am assuming majority of you are only rabbit "pet" owners. She is handling the rabbit very correctly. Now my rabbit wouldn't just lie there, but there are some that have, and you are so lucky to have one, good on ya...
She's not hurting the bunny. It is a very calm, tolerant bunny. Trying to clip its nails while expecting it to lie still on its back is definitely not gonna happen, but the bunny is fine. She's not picking it up by the ears.
Just to clarify, she was scruffing the rabbit, which isn't much better (still scares them a bit) but won't hurt them. The ears were just in her palm as she did so.
She is NOT holding the rabbit by the ears ... for goodness sake people ... holding them by the scruff with ears within the grasp puts them in a trance. The one doesn't go into the trance and likes to play around ...
Is that the rabbit from hell? Must be a very mild form... I don't think any of my rabbits would lie still on their backs for more than two seconds on a table.
So instead I sit down and let them lie on their backs between my legs, and maybe hold them still by the feet if they struggle:3 If they still struggle too much I put a towel over them.
Owner from hell, more like it. reporting it as animal abuse.

one, never grab a bunny by the ears,
two. when they start to fight like that, if you dont hold them properly they can break their backs.
three, shes not fat just fluffy. my bunny girl weighs 10 pounds.

one, not the ears but by the scruff with ears steadied ... according to ARBA standards.
two, she wasn't fighting, she was playing the way she always does.
