  • They spelled it "Beetle". My God. How can I go on any longer?

  • I had the pleasure of meeting & chatting w/ Pete many yrs ago, real nice guy

  • Pete Best changed drumming as we know it.....What a load of bull.

  • Happy birthday pete best

  • AND ANOTHER THING DID THEY JUST SAY "HE WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE BAND BECAUSE HE OVER SHADOWED THE REST OF THE BEATLES, AND HE WAS MORE POPULAR"? HA!!! THATS A PRETTY BOLD FALSE STATEMENT!!!

  • LOL BEETLE WHAT A STUPID NEWS STATION!!! IF YOU CAN'T SPELL IT, DON'T DO A STORY ON IT!!! DUMBASSES THATS PRETTY MUCH AN INSULT TO THE BEATLES IN MY OPINION!!! THEY DIDN'T WORK THEIR ASSES OFF AND MAKE SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC TO BE INSULTED!!! GOSH!!!

  • Pete was a good guy, but he was always the different one. He refused to accept the "beatle moptop" look, but the other beatles did not care too much. It was when Brian Epstein became their manager when he decided ringo should replace them. the other guys did not have anything to do with this decision.

The beatles went through many names before deciding on the B-E-A spelling, and one of the names was just "the beetles." It is strange though that they spelled it that way on the video. 8 (

  • pete would have ruined the image that brian epstein wanted for them. ringo was the perfect choice

  • poor Pete Best.. playing hundreds of 7 hour long shows 7 days a week with the Beatles in Hamburg over 3 years.. then they sack him. A few weeks later theyre global megastars.

  • BEATLE NOT BEETLE WTF

  • For many years, I was told , and read that George Martin was the one who `let go ` of Best. He was a pretty good drummer live , but just did`nt cut it for tape . ie not good enough as a studio musician could do.

  • this is bs Pete couldnt play well

  • Pete Best didn't invent drumming as we know it. RIngo did.

  • @SoFarSoGoodSoWhat14: Nope, not Ringo either. Ask any hot rock drummer - they'll tell you, It was jazz great, Gene Krupa. He was "Keith Moon" back in the 1940s.

  • aki esta el 6o. Beatle, Pete

  • To those saying the team are correct to say "Pete Best Former Beetle", in Pete's time with the band they were known as THE BEATLES throughout, and in fact were never known as The Beetles even before, only Silver Beetles. And even if they were it would have been irrelevant to the story, just like the photo of Johnny Hutchinson is. Do a google search of "From Blackjacks To Beatles, How the Fab Four Evolved."

  • Pete got some nice royalty checks from the Anthology I record which had track that Pete drummed on.

  • At 0:56 thats not actually Pete Best. It's Johnny Hutch cause they didnt have a proper drummer?!

  • When Best was in the Beatles, they were named the Beetles. Stop raging.

  • @teehowe2 It's a poor mistake. Yes, they were known as the Beetles as you point out, amongst many other band names, but that is beside the point in this story and they would not have meant it. The important thing is he was former Beatle and they have spelt it wrong, which is poor or their part.

  • Ringo is better drummer

  • @Johnmcartney10

    conflicting reports on that one.

  • @CGJ7755 so, what's wrong Ringo better than Pete Best?

  • @Johnmcartney10 Ringo is a better Beatle.

  • "Changed drumming as we know it? Pete Best? . . . Laying it on a little thick aren't we? Denny Wilson of the Beach Boys (Surfin' Safari), Ron Wilson of The Surfaris (Wipe Out), and Sandy Nelson (Teen Beat) brought the drums into prominence long before the British had even a remote influence on drummers in America. it was Gene Krupa who brought drums to the fore in the '40s.

  • John would say later that, "Pete was a better drummer, but Ringo was a better Beatle"

  • Poor Pete will always be remembered as one of the biggest "losers" of all time, but that's not really fair. True, Ringo was a MUCH better drummer but, let's face it...the WAY Pete was sacked was pretty cruel and heartless - none of the other Beatles had the balls to tell him face-to-face. Obviously, it was the correct decision, but still...

Actually the biggest LOSER of all time goes to the moron at Decca Records who turned down the Beatles when they audtioned for a recording contract.

  • "Cruel and Heartless"? George Martin told John and Paul he intended to replaced Pete with session drummers in the studio.. Pete would be caught in the awkward position of dealing with magazines and fans calling him the best drummer in the world - when he wasn't even playing on the records. Around 1967, the secret slips out. Pete is made the laughing stock of the music world. You tell me which is worse. They probably didn't want to hurt his feelings by saying, "Pete, your drumming sucks".

  • sucks for him

  • Are you f-ing serious? After all these years you can't spell "BEATLES" It's not BEETLES you twit. Pete was not the first Beatle drummer. Cole Hammon was. Do your homework before you do your next documentary.

  • Happy birfday, Pete.

  • 0:35 they spelled "Beatles" wrong there's no double e . its "B-E-"A"-T-L-E-S"

  • Pete Best is best known as former best man of the best group of all time.

  • Hello man&men. Can i please you?

Look our cover please by John Lennon-Imagine!if you love music add friends.Thank you very much

  • was he the on released or the one that quit?

  • @chilibro HE WAS THE ONE WHO WAS FIRED JUST ABOUT TO RELEASE THE FIRST BEATLES SINGLE "LOVE ME DO"

  • @webdelpep2003 was the quarry dude the one who quit cause he didnt think they'd get anywhere?

  • it says beetle because then thay hadnt changed the name to beatles with a "a" yet

  • if the beatles had kept pete best,

than the world wudve bin deprived

    of Ringo.

  • Former Beetle?? It's BeAtle!! Stupid show get it right

  • the zoom in on the drummer is not Pete Best. Hacks!

  • I don't think that IS Pete Best. I think it's Mr STEVIE RIKS

  • If best was really was the most popular beatles at the time, and everybody loved him.

Then how come never became famous except for his connection to the beatles..

He has been bitter and twisted since the beatles hit the big time and has jumped at any chance he can get to talk about the beatles..

He wasnt the best drummer in the beatles, paul McCartney was a better drummer than pete best

  • right....if he was such a bad drummer why did they keep him for over 2 years...there were alot of politics behind his quote " release" and i think PAUL was jealous of Pete's Look...The term " beetles" was on their early drum kits, even earlier the " silver beetles" so its not a mistake. The name " Beatles" was supposed to be on " beat music" but John Lennon said they toyed with the idea of insect names because of the influence of Buddy Holly and The Crickets~

  • @karbyk62 If he was any good how come he never became famous, he has spent his time since leaving the beatles as an ex-beatles and has used that to try and carve a name for himself.

Best was in the band due to the fact that he was middle class, had his own drum kit and his mum had a cafe under her house and the beatles could practice there..

He had the money but not the talent

  • You can't help but feel sorry for this guy's situation. Maybe

they had a good reason for firing him, but can you imagine

the incredible burn this guy experienced, remaining a local

schmuck while the other three went on to unimaginable

fame and fortune? And to this day, the poor bastard would

be reminded of that every time he turns on the radio.

But then again, maybe that's one of the reasons WHY

they went on to unimaginable fame and fortune -

BECAUSE they got rid of him.

  • The biggest mistake is at 56 secs in there is a close up on a still photograph of Johnny Hutchinson of the Big Three who was standing in.

  • @Rickenbackerglory Yea your right and its a close up, this shows how unimportant best really is and how he is still trying to latch on to the beatles connection.

How come if he was any good he never joined a banned that went on to be famous, he had connections in the buisness.

He had fans apparently but none that would buy any of his records.

Back in the 80s i remember the carling black label advert played during a beatles programme..." probably the best drummer in the world"

  • He looks more Italian than British.

  • that's right a former Beetle cause he got kicked out of the BEATLES ! LOL !

  • lmao at former bug

  • he got kicked out of Beatles because he sucked

  • he is a former bug?

  • fucking fail!!!!!! @ 0:35 it says former beetle in the caption

  • Dear god what news station is this? They can't even fucking spell "Beatles."

  • xxlegallybrunettexxx you spelled spelt wrong

  • haha former BEETLE

  • I feel so sorry for this guy...His entire life he will be known as a former Beatle. Or the worst luck case in history...The guy that Ringo replaced.

  • Even though The Beatles changed the world. Pete Best has had a normal life, and is probably grateful. John turned into a peacenut, and died violently. George was brainwashed and died of lung cancer. Ringo sends back fanmail, which he shouldn't be receiving anyway, and Paul is still desperately trying to recreate the past.

  • Pete says to this day he`s never talked to or even met Paul or Ringo, or even George and John when they were alive ever since he got fired. It`s funny right? After all these years there is still that wall, like they are afraid Pete may punch them out.

  • Change drumming as we know it?

    I don't think so!!

  • enjoyable? I would have killed myself...

  • re: Beetles- well yes, a mis-spell..Although legend says Beatles name influenced by Buddy Holly and the Crickets (songs still owned by McCartney); I read once that when the 'lads' were in Germany, early 60's, they found out 'Beedle' is a German slang word for 'penis'! Hence to spelling change to 'Beatles'..

  • Why can't she - and everyone else - just cut the crap and say, "damn...the dude just missed it. He must feel so bad...etc" - why all the b.s. about how happy he is and how good he is? TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!

  • 'He was RELEASED (???) from the Beatles" hmm...

  • that's not Petet best in The photo with the baND

  • Wow "Beatles" is spelled wrong when they show his name. I just lost all faith in humanity.

  • i kno i saw that

  • the news bar thingy spelt beatles wrong they spelt it it beetles

  • i noticed that

  • Ringo was a way better and much more talented musician.....things happen for a reason and with pete the beatles would have well been ok.......best for history and music that he got kicked...so thanks pete your inadaquate drumming skills gave birth to one of the best bands ever to play

  • @93652 ive heard his playing overshadowed the rest...while ringo's sure didnt, as lenon mc cartney got all the attention...

  • i love ringo waaaaaaaaaaay more than pete best, but they only replaced him cuz he got too much attention? thats selfish lol :P but dont get me wrong i love ringo and im glad pete was replaced- even tho i like pete too- but why would they replace him just because of that?

  • @pollywolly67 They didn't that is just what Pete Best put about in a book and film. Pete was not a good drummer and they got a session drummer in for their first recording, he refused to dress as they did, missed gigs at which Rongo took over and did not get along with the other three. They liked Ringo and thought he was better so bye bye Pete... simple as.

  • oh i see. he got lots of credit for nothing. and thats good they chose Ringo in the end cuz he is the best!! haha i love all four of them (:

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Ringo Starr actualy only stood in once for Pete in Hamburg, and that was when Lu Walters of the Hurricanes made a demo, john, paul george and pete should have backed, but Pete was in town buying drumsticks, so Ringo Starr sat in.

  • @pollywolly67: If they replaced Pete with Ringo because Pete was getting too popular (which they didn't) - then they failed in their mission, because Ringo Starr became not only the most popular Beatle - especially when "A Hard Day's Night" hit the theatrers - but his became the most recognizable face in Rock & Roll, with the possible exception of Elvis.

  • @TheBingsTV

Ringo was NOT by any means the most popular beatle. Paul and John were equal, and by far better known.

  • Dude, seriously, at 28 - don'teven try to tell us who were there - how it was. "This Boy" was renamed "This Boy (Ringo's Theme)" after his scene in "A Hard Day's Night". In "Help!" - Ringo was the central character. When a fan grabbed his St. Christopher medal in NYC - it's return made national news.

Never said Paul, John and George were not wildly popular - they were BEATLES. But, there was even a national "Ringo For President!" campaign among the teens. They didn't do that for John or Paul.

  • You assume John & Paul were more popular 'cause they wrote the songs and sang. On paper it makes sense - but that 's not how it was. In 1964, when The Beatles invaded America, people couldn't tell them apart. All we saw was the hair. Ringo was the first to stand out - the funny one with the nose. He was the loveable underdog - the best-developed image of the four. Paul was "the cute one", John "the witty one", George "the shy one". But, everybody young and old loved Ringo.

  • @TheBingsTV That may have been true in your crowd, but I can tell you, out here, we ALL knew who each of them was! Yes, Paul was the cute one, etc...but each of them stood out on their own and Ringo was no more well known than any of the others!

  • @fatdanios: My dad brought me home a copy of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" a day or two after New Years Day 1964 - I was 10 years old. At that time there was nothing in the papers or TV on them. All anyone knew of their look was the 45 sleeve. This was in the NYC area, and in those days, we got everything first. WABC Radio had just begun playing the song. The first real look we all got was the Sullivan Show on Feb. 7th - and within a couple weeks, the magazine racks were flooded with Beatles covers.

  • I wish teenagers today could experience something like Beatlemania. Our grandparents had Rudy Valle. Our parents had Frank Sinatra. Our older brothers and sisters had Elvis. We had The Beatles - who of course were bigger than all the previous singers combined. But then it all just stopped. Young people today couldn't imagine just how big a phenomenon The Beatles were around the world. For better and for worse - It was literally - "Life BEFORE The Beatles" and "Life AFTER The Beatles".

  • @TheBingsTV Yeah I really feel I've missed out by not experiencing lots of pubescent teenage girls screaming over music

  • lol he still sounds realy scouse, respect to him.

  • At 0:55 the camera zooms in on a picture of drummer that is definitely NOT Pete Best, but one Johnny Hutchinson, sitting in with The Beatles at an audition as their drummer at the time, Tommy Moore, were late. The picture is from May 10th 1960, three months before Best joined The Beatles.

  • I Like Pete Best!

  • Pete Best was getting too much attention, thus they replaced him with a drummer who looked like a hounddog.

  • @takadi haha......poor ringo!

  • 0:35 they spelt BEATLES wrong! NOT BEETLES! BEATLES!

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx it's not a mistake: when best was the drummer the name of the group was "BEETLES", not yet "BEATLES"

  • @math4sale Of course it's a mistake, and a bad one.. They were "The Beatles" when Best was with them, and even if they were known as Beetles earlier in his time with them, it would have been pretty pointless mentioning it in this article. They also, as other posters have mentioned, showed a picture of Johnnny Hutchinson in place of Pete, who looks nothing like him. 2 poor mistakes and no excuses for them.

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx when best was the drummer group's name was "BEETLES", not yet "BEATLES"

  • @xxlegallybrunettexxx that's embarrasing.

  • I love Pete and Ringgo!!!!!!!!!!

  • they spelled beatles wrong!

  • Poor Pete, to bad Paul decided to be a fag and kick him out.

  • Pete is definitely the Best and Jennifer is so cute! ;)

  • When they're talking about Pete Best... why do they show a picture of Tommy Moore drumming?

  • 0:39 they spelled beatles wrong

  • they were also called "The Beetles"

and "The Silver Beetles" before they changed the name to "The Beatles".So everybody just calm down.

  • well said James they were even miss named as the Beat Boys too ;)

  • i can remember most things about them

    without forgetting =)

  • lol that sounds like a 3 pints statement :))))

  • @1q6z Not really, because they surely aren't referring to that. The significant thing is he was a former BeAtle, and they've spelt it wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @jamesklosowski They were known as The Silver Beetles (never just Beetles, it seems?) and this was before Pete's time anyway . Do a google search "From Blackjacks to Beatles, How the Fab Four Evolved."

  • Beetle? Thats as fail as Beattle!

  • The chick is hawt.

  • I just played with, and hung out all weekend with Pete . And I've got to say that he is one of the nicest guy I have ever met. Both He and his brother are just Great guys! After all the man has gone through and continues to have to hear and talk about ... I am so impressed buy the man's strength of character. Just a good man PERIOD !

  • thats not even pete that they keep showing.!!!!!

  • The Silver Beetles - once!

  • at .36 they misspelle Beatle with Beetle

  • Cynthias book is on here.....she tells about this specific incident. videos 13 or 14 i believe. Titled John by cynthia lennon. peace.

  • How on earth did he' change drumming as we know it', ................with respect Pete.

  • ringo is thousand TIMES better than pete (i forgot to write "times" in the post bellow :P)

  • ringo is thousands better than pete. this is very noticeable in the beatles anthology 1, when the song "how do you do it" is listened. we can clearly hear great drums sounds in that track (wich are performed by ringo) specially if we compare them with pete´s drumming of the decca sessions.

  • Whatever!

Pete is a better vocalist than Ringo, hands down.

    Isaiah

  • Comment removed

  • wow. they didnt even speel beatles right in the interview

  • Speel..?

  • who cares about pete! back when they had pete they were just another band, and nobody would care if someone was replaced, but once ringo joined is when they became a big deal and when it would actually matter. Ringo was the missing ingredient to their success. They wouldn't have made it with pete. the made the right decission.

  • Pete was fired by Brian Samuel Epstein because he was the most popular at the time.

This was bad for business. John Lennon has wrote that he was very upset with the switch.

  • Although Ringo meshed with the band somewhat more than Pete did, Pete is still a great drummer, I wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.

  • What the - - when the TV banner comes in at the bottom it says "Pete Best, Former BEETLE"!! Who made that mistake? heh heh

  • @jzerony the group had accually been spelt beetles for a short period of time

  • @jzerony Yeah REALLY!

  • so if he was really popular and so talented.... why he still crying like a little girl....go ringo go

  • they let go pete best because he wasn't good enough. thats why when Ringo joined they immediately became famous. and don't call him ugly, respsect him, he's a great drummer, better than pete best. and he can to do a drum roll, he does one in the beginnig od All you need is love.

    Ringo Forever! Pete Best Never!....again.

  • is this supposed to be Worcester, Massachusetts? the reporter doesn't have an accent so i dont think it could have been the Worcester in England.

  • It is in my opinion that Pete Best didnt fit with what I call 'Beatle image', he kinda looked like a rogue and out of place where as Ringo some how fit the bill, this could be because they were good friends with Ringo (as it states in the Beatle Anthology) there have also been claims that apart from the music and performing, Pete really didnt have much to do with the other three memebers, he was in it to get the job done where as the others wanted to change the world with artisical music magic.

  • the story i read was that pete was

getting all the chicks and the other lads

didnt fancy that, so they stole the drummer from the rory storm and the hurricans band, whom was better

    and most importantly,uglier

    ringo was the perfect fit

  • bullshit!

Pete didn't mesh with the other three, Ringo did. Ringo's the real beatle. And the better drummer.

  • @ 0:56 that is not pete best

  • Right -- I've seen that picture in books. I think that was Johnny Hutchinson, who was sitting in with the Beatles for a short spell.

  • yeah, i think it was for a little tour around Scotland and there-abouts, one of their first tours...Paul wrote home to his family proudly saying he had been asked for his autograph!! i bet he never did that again lol ;)

  • I wonder where that autograph is today. If it's still around, that early autograph could be worth something. (I know, I know ... someone's mom threw it out.)

  • I'm pretty sure you can beat the playing with the original drummer for The Beatles - you could play with an actual Beatle!

  • they wrote beatles wrong!!!!!

  • note the typo at 39 seconds, (Beetles)

  • After the Quarrymen, they were Johnny and the Moondogs, then they were the Long John and the Silver Beatles, then the Silver Beatles. Best wasnt their first drummer either, Tommy Moore and several other came before pete

"The Man Who Gave the Beatles Away" by Allan Williams

  • OK, let's not make it out as if Pete was one of the transition drummers ... he was there for almost exactly two years. He had a HUGE fan base and was often considered the focal point of the group ... you need to google "When Pete was the Most Popular Beatle" ... and article written by the founder of the Mersey Beat, Bill Harry.

  • Inbetween being called Long John and the Silver Beatles, and the Silver Beatles, werent they also called The Fabulas Silver Beatles? Also in Germany they had to change their name to Beat Brothers because the word beatle sounded to similar to pedle - the German word for penis

  • Former Beetle?...if they were going to do this interview, you'd think they would spell Beatle right...

  • They called themselves " the beetles" at the verry start of their carrer and changed it to the beatles a little later...maybe thats the reason

  • cause you can m8.....cause you can....lol.....

  • Comment removed

  • Pete got cut because when they went to EMI to meet George Martin and have an interview Martin said he wasn't a good enough drummer for the Beatles to go anywhere. But even when Ringo went in to record for the first time they have to have another drummer to come in and record. Pete had a HUGE fan base in Liverpool. When the Beatles played their first club with Ringo as the drummer Pete's mom came and attacked John, and tried to fight him.

  • good...fuckin' bastards!

  • wow these fuckers are retarded 0:35 can't even spell "Beatles."

  • omg, i know. they've been living under a rock?

  • former "beetle"???? hahah

  • Best was never as good as Ringo.

  • Best was an OK drummer, but I've heard some songs when he played, and it sounds a bit like it's a machine drumming, and it really doesn't capture the feeling that Ringo has.

  • i'll say that you're right there lol, he does seem a bit stiff to be honest

  • Read/listen to the book by Geoff Emerick for an insight into the qualities of Ringo as a drummer..... let's just say that he was a bit wanting in the drumming department. Mr Emerick was a recording engineer at EMI and Apple, and worked on Beatles albums from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road, with 1 or 2 exceptions. Ringo is the luckiest musician alive!!!

  • Hey People, Pete Best made roughly about £10million pounds from The Beatles Anthology series. So he has not been as hard done by as he makes out. Incidentally The Patriots are drummed by his son Roag

  • Roag is his half-brother.

  • Haha. At 00:45 the subtitles say "The Beetles" with two "e"'s. Incidentally, onamoka, Wikipedia states Best made between £1 million pounds and £4 million pounds from the Beatles Anthology, not £10million pounds, but hey, it's still a eck of a lot of money.

  • well it took 37 years for that windfall to happen. how could he have known that day would come? think of all the time he spent in limbo being just the guy who got cut by the Beatles at the last minute. the first 8 yrs was spent watching the Beatles become bigger than god without him while he was doing odd jobs in a bakery for no money. At least he lived long enough to collect on it. Most people would have hung themselves.

  • has any1 got any stuff of pete best after he left the beatles and went it alone

  • Good Luck to him, and any average drummer could have done what Rigo did, in my opinion.

  • Any musician worth his salt knows perfectly well why Ringo replaced Pete. The other Beatles were just too polite to give the reason. Nowt to do with haircuts, jealousy etc. Listen to the drumming.

  • This poor bastard probably cries every day.

  • WeekendWarrior1210, Best actually tried to commit suicide once, but was talked out of it by his mother & brother.

  • Isn't Pete Best running a Beatles museum on the Mersey coast in liverpool these days?

  • Jennifer Roy is sexy.

  • identifubling along

  • to add to my comment below: then they zoom in on a picture of Johnny Hutchinson who sat in with the beatles. They make no reference to johnny hutch, which suggests that they thought it was pete best. Amateurs.

  • this makes me so sad. he was sacked cuz he was the best looking one and john & paul were jealous cuz he got more chicks. period.

  • look stupid people.the facts r pete best was sacked becuz his drumming wasnt good enough.when they auditioned for george martin, martin SAID and i quote "the drummers not good enough,we'll use our studio drummer(alan white)to record with" thats when they got rid of best.FACT FACT FACT!!!!!DAMNIT!!

  • hirskdubbi, you got it half right.Martin was displeased with Best's drumming when the Beatles auditioned for Parlophone on June 6,1962.Best was dismissed by Brian Epstein on August 16,1962, after the Beatles heard Martin didn't like his drumming. They recorded "Love Me Do" with Ringo on Sept 4,1962,but when they returned to the studio on Sept 11,they discovered Martin was dissatisfied with Ringo's performance so he got ANDY White to play drums on the Sept 11 session while Ringo played tambourine.

  • To hirskdubbi:I capitalized ANDY White in my previous comment because it was him,not ALAN White (as U mentioned) who filled in on "Love Me Do".Easy mistake to mix them up 'cause both names are similar,& there's 2 well known drummers named Alan White. The older Alan White played drums on Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band Live in Toronto" & was the drummer for Yes for a while. The younger Alan White played drums for Oasis, until he was replaced by (ironically) Zak Starkey,Ringo's son,LOL!Gets confusing,eh?!
