  • i got the hoops i use from coats crafts uk, when i worked there, the depth is just less than a centimeter, so they are quite shallow. they are just the basic wooden ones, don't know if the spring loaded ones are narrower.

  • hI Amy,thanks for the video.. sorry to ask such a dim question ( im a beginner!!).. what hoops do you use, i cannot get mine under the foot without taking the needle out and then replaci ng it after positioning the hoop.. what a faff!! my hoop is about 12 mm deep.. can you get a thinner type ? Itching to carry on with my project.. so any help would be great x

  • Mam please send these tips and other easy tips were my email. I have got a usha janome stitch magic automatic machine. But two needle tool was I have not used. Send to two needle use to my email.

  • Thank you for posting this! It was very helpful!!!

  • despite the sound problems, I think you did quite well in your explanation of this technique. I've never had the guts to attempt this and now I have an embroidery machine. But you never know... some day I might want a more hand made look.

Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Really helpful thanks Amy and lucykate crafts!! I've got a janome and I've just ordered a free motion foot, can't wait!!:)

  • so you don't lower the tension for machine embroidery? you just leave it at 4?

  • hi lucy, sorry to ask you again, but which upper tension should i use?

  • @22222julia my machine has a red marker on the upper tension wheel, which is the optimum setting, and its '4'. hope that helps : )

  • ok, thank you, then i won't have to change anything. thank you so much!!!

  • hello lucy thank you for the tutorial. i also have a bernina, 220. may i ask you, do you ever change the bobbin tension?

  • @22222julia no, i haven't. with my previous machine, the bobbin tension was adjusted accidentally and the thread got quite snagged up underneath.

  • apologies again for the sound quality, i don't know where that 'popping' sound came from, husband thinks it's feedback through the mic, as i was filming it myself, and sewing at the same time, i had to hold the camera quite close to the sewing machine. will use a tripod next time!

(note to husband - tripod, next birthday present maybe??)

  • go to sarahlwhittle video is great. this one is very good. its great for being done with one hand. princessliss needs more information. thanks kate

  • I have a husqvarna, the darning foot and a hopp and I still cant do it. the bottom thread gets all tangled up,I will try pulling the thread through l;ikme you did but if thats not why it does it,what could it be?

    fantastic vid,thnx :)

  • you need to adjust your bobbin tension...there is a little screw on the bobbin case, tighten it a couple of turns

  • If you havent figured this out yet if you lower the foot(if thats possiblle on your machine it is on my colormatic 6440) so it almost sitson the fabric the stitches wont skip.

  • Thanks lucykatecrafts.... Your relaxed manner and way you deliver the instructions are great but the sound quality was really poor and I missed some parts where you talk. I got the jist though and I was particularly impressed with your multi tasking one hand embroidery other filming technique lol :o) Thanks !

  • it's just normal sewing thread, nothing special. you can use specialist threads for machine embroidery but for the demo, i just used my usual sewing threads.

  • what sort of thread do you use? the top looks quite thick and really easy to see

  • Very informative !
