  • This is song 1 on the album Human Racing. A great start on the record. An absolutely brilliant track with no acoustic instruments whatsoever.

  • Love it .... Kershaw was my hero when I was 10 lol ..... I'll do the vocals for you !

  • Nik Kershaw music was awesome!

Used to walk to school every day in 1983 listening to his TAPE albums on my headphones.

Great dance music of its day as a teenie bopper. Still much liked. :)

I liked the fact he was ANTI political too. Even today politicians wreck music. You can't have parties in the UK like we used too. You have to pay ridiculous sums of money to get into some dumb ass festival, where toilets make you ill & it takes a day to get out. Saturday night at a club will always rule.

  • Nicely done!! I see so many videos that show 'covers' and they stink but yours is very close. I also use REAL analgue sytnths as the VST's suck. Nik used Juno 60 on the actual record so that's also why you got it so close ;0)

  • cheese

  • PURE MAGIC!

  • Fantastic! This is the best thing I've ever seen or heard on YouTube. Totally underrated track from Nik Kershaw.

  • I really enjoy your good synth-programming and playing in all your covers - very convincing (Juno-60 rocks)!

  • I have to applaud anyone who likes Nik Kershaw this much, however I'm with Corrupt3538 in saying this is just out somewhat. (I'll trust Corrupt's judgment in saying what key it was - I'm just cursed with perfect pitch, but I didn't learn music to any great degree... so... I just know I was out; and this doesn't happen!)

Kryptone, if you ever move to Melbourne we need to start a band together. ;)

  • @TheFlyslip cheers for comment. yep yep it was out, explanation above. I am actually moving to Aussie in 2 months !

  • @kryptonenz Good luck with the move! And I'm serious. If you need a vocalist, give me a yell. ;) (I'm in Brisbane for a few more months, then back to Melbourne.)

  • @TheFlyslip Thanks mate, I will keep it in mind. I'm not sure exactly where I'm going to end up yet most likely NSW or QLD.

  • @kryptonenz

This recording is incredible good. How did you record the tracks? Which recording gear did you use (sound card, computer, recording program, etc...)? Did you use midi or play yourself the phrases?

    Thanks

  • @kryptonenz

Can I make similar recording with Roland D-50?

  • @amihol doubt it would sound as tight or growly. Maybe handle the pads and bells ok.

  • @kryptonenz

Oh great. I can only find the lyrics on the internet and sing besides this backing track.

  • its all wrong, the sounds and tones.im sure all the people that are doing these are tone deaf

  • Great video and job well done.

  • I love it! Well done! Join MY band!

  • Very good re-creation.

I'm pretty convinced Nik used a Minimoog for the bass on the record.

The TR808 is right, but it's triggering a Simmons SDS5 is my guess.

Nik was a heavy Juno user, he had a Juno-60 and Juno-6 in his home studio.

That's probably why your recording sounds so similar to the original.

Your drum track is really well done.

  • Love it!

  • Very, very good!

  • Very nice indeed!

  • Outstanding job! I learned to program and play synths to Nik's music (among others) and spent ages working out this track. You've nailed it :-)

  • Great job .

This piece is 25 years old and AHEAD OF IT"S TIME!

  • WOW! dude, you rock!

  • I've already commented before suggesting we should form a band because I'm a Bassist :). I love this!! :). Would you consider making one for "The Riddle" or "Human Racing"?. You're fantastic, great great work. Peace...

  • Yeah would love to form a band but am the other side of the world unfortunately. I have just finished Wouldn't It Be Good, just have to edit the video and upload.

  • Well never say never :). I look foreword to hearing "W.I.B.G."

  • Impressive recreation... Im currently writing a bunch of 80's songs (originals) if you are interesting in listening to them and maybe giving some feedback :)

  • I notice this piece is in C and you have raised it a semitone to start on C sharp. This makes it a semitone higher than the original and significantly more difficult to play so why??

  • Okay, geez I feel really stupid. I remember now that I transferred this song from my analogue cassette of Human Racing to PC and guess what, my old tape machine speed is out thus the mp3 version I have which I listened to when re-creating this is in wrong key.

  • Totally underated piece. Excellant work piecing that back together. *****

  • Great job, this IS my favourite Nik Kershaw and my friend who has never really heard of Nik Kershaw likes the song as well.

  • You did GREAT!!!!! Nik Kershaw is great!

  • Nice souvenirs! Good job! ;-)

  • Oh my god! - Let´s form a band!!!

  • It's nice to see other's who appreciate the talents of the sinfully underrated Nik Kershaw.

  • Superb re-creation!

    Nothing compares to analogue synths!

I wonder did Nik do most of the track by himself (he did play all the guitar and most of the fine bass guitar parts on his debut album, and he can play keyboards as well, but constructing such a strong synthpop track is something else ...)?

  • cool...this is perfect recreation! how long did it take to deconstruct it?

this impressed me a great deal, as i own some synths, too!

  • hey, thanks... i did this in an afternoon

  • sick man.

  • WOW! Well Done!

  • Brilliant song and a brilliant re-creation! Unbelievably good! Thanks for posting : )

  • Stunning is all I have to say, GENIUS!!!

WOW, this is SO impressive,,, One of THE most dramatically brilliant synth pop tracks ever made. Pulsating and Poptronic BLISS!

And your version is so up there, you did a FANTABULOUS job!!!!!!!! IMPRESSED! A+++++

  • Dude, that is freakin' awesome. I know how much work you must have put into that, and I doff my hat to you. Excellent tribute.

  • Absolutely amazing, don't suppose you're in Los Angeles?. I'm a bassist, we could form a group! :) Nik's one of my all time favorite songwriters.

  • So so good! Seeing as it's an exercise in recreation, the first thing that I noticed is that you need a longer attack on the pads (and so maybe you'd need to come in correspondingly earlier).

  • I take it back. I just listened to the 12 inch which is sparse in places and the pads are a pretty close match. In the single mix their attack is hidden I guess.

  • grrrrreat!!!

just the high sequencer came a lil late, like on the album/single version.

try to get hold on the 12inch remix, its pure madness!!

  • Damn you're good! That was once again pretty tight to the original. There's no questioning your playing ability to reproduce a Nik tune. Very enjoyable to listen to. Cheers!

If there's anymore in the offering I look forward to hearing them.

  • Oh yes!!!!!!! That is so bladdy good :-()

    Thankyou yet again!

  • Thanks for that ! It's in the same key as the album version that I have.

  • Further to the above, Nik in my opinion is the master of key changes and clever chord progressions, this track has a number of key changes all the way through it. You really get to appreciate the geniuseness of the writer when you recreate their tracks.

  • Nice work kryptonenz... I used to dable about with an old korg. Think it was a X5?? [im mainly a drummer] Any ideas what keyboard should i be looking at to use with my laptop. Limited budget of say £500. And any ideas on software?

  • "Nik in my opinion is the master of key changes and clever chord progressions".

    I agree 200%.

    Also, you're an awesome musician!

  • another great job! well done :-)
