My father was diagnosed with type 1 @ age 5 he was able to play sports.. go to prom.. graduate... have me.. he was a hard worker.. funny and sweet man.. sadly on feb 19th 2011 i lost my father 3 months shy of his 43 birthday. @ his funeral donations were made to a diabetes research fund. There are many types of diabetes, each in there own way is a separate very different disease.Type 1 accounts for only 15% of the whole diabetic population and its not caused by eating too much sugar. It is classified as an auto immune disease, where your immune system which is responsible for protecting your body from its enemies actually attacks itself. Think of it as friendly fire but inside your body.Don't believe all you hear on the tv, even tv doctors fail and misinform.

I've had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 3. I'm 33 now. The changes have come a long way!!! I am blessed to have 2 daughters that are not diabetic. I remember when the only diet drink you could really find was Tab and it left a terrible taste in your mouth. My mom used to cut out cheese in shapes for holiday parties at schoo. Halloween was pumpkins and ghosts, valentines day was hearts and Etc.

Hey, type 1 here. Diagnosed two weeks before i turned four, now nearly 18. It drives me crazy knowing that every year i get older thats one more year diabetes has been with me, but I just wanted to say to all diabetics watching this, don't give up hope. Diabetes can be cured. The only way diabetes can win is if we believe we can't stop it. I've had it 14 long years and I still havent given up hope that one day I'll be able to eat and dance and live freely without it over my head. <3
I'm 18, I was diagnosed when I was 8. And yeah, it is incredibly difficult to deal with a lot of the time. But you want to know the truth? Despite ending up in hospital usually once a year, despite having my life span cut about 15 years short, despite the threat of kidney damage, nerve damage, heart disease... Diabetes is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It has made me a more compassionate person, and taught me to truly appreciate what I have in life.

My son has type 1 diabetes, he came home from college today and told me he had a hypo and could not walk and had to sit on the floor. I have always taught him no matter what if your sugar is low just sit down and eat or drink, does not matter if people stare. There needs to be more understanding of this disease.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1999 at the age of 31 now 41 and this video made me cry also. I wish I controlled my diabetes much better because now suffering from gastroparesis which is paralysis of the stomach muscles. If I had one word of advice it would to take care of yourself and don't let anyone tell you can't do something when you can.

i never really thought much about diabetes cos no one as had it in our family until my 15 year old boy just got it. I told his 10 year old younger brother to help look after his big brother but in the same week we found out he as it too. Ive promised them both that dad will find a cure one day.

I have had it since I was 9 but the doctors say i probably had it at least 3 years earlier than when i was diagnosed. Sure its hard but what choice do we have. My 9 year old has just been diagnose Type 1. It's tough on everyone but remember it's only a life sentence, not a death sentence and the human spirit (particulularly in kids) is strong.
My son is my hero. As sad and as inconvenienced he feels he faces this disease with energy, optimisim and a smile on his face.

I'm 17 and have had diabetes for almost 9 years now. The video is sweet, but tbh it only focuses on the kids and although there is the passing comment about "it lasts a lifetime", I don't think this is ever stressed enough and is something I'm struggling with nowadays. No-one could understand the pain a diabetic goes through unless they have the disease themselves, I wish people would understand that. =[
Diabetes isn't contagious. Diabetes can be dangerous to the person with it if it isn't under control. We as diabetics do the best we can to control our blood sugar levels to the best of our abilities.

Hey, type 1 here. Diagnosed two weeks before i turned four, now nearly 18. It drives me crazy knowing that every year i get older thats one more year diabetes has been with me, but I just wanted to say to all diabetics watching this, don't give up hope. Diabetes can be cured. The only way diabetes can win is if we believe we can't stop it. I've had it 14 long years and I still havent given up hope that one day I'll be able to eat and dance and live freely without it over my head. <3

I'm 18, I was diagnosed when I was 8. And yeah, it is incredibly difficult to deal with a lot of the time. But you want to know the truth? Despite ending up in hospital usually once a year, despite having my life span cut about 15 years short, despite the threat of kidney damage, nerve damage, heart disease... Diabetes is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It has made me a more compassionate person, and taught me to truly appreciate what I have in life.

My son has type 1 diabetes, he came home from college today and told me he had a hypo and could not walk and had to sit on the floor. I have always taught him no matter what if your sugar is low just sit down and eat or drink, does not matter if people stare. There needs to be more understanding of this disease.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1999 at the age of 31 now 41 and this video made me cry also. I wish I controlled my diabetes much better because now suffering from gastroparesis which is paralysis of the stomach muscles. If I had one word of advice it would to take care of yourself and don't let anyone tell you can't do something when you can.

hey im diabetic .. im 16 now and i was diagnosed wen i was 3.... i was very ill wen i was diagnosed .. normal blood suger is 4 - 8, well wen i was diagnsed mine was 54.9. the dcs sed 1 more week and i wud of fallen into a coma and not come out of it ! i hope they find a cure :)

I have had it since I was 9 but the doctors say i probably had it at least 3 years earlier than when i was diagnosed. Sure its hard but what choice do we have. ive been at the doctors this morning getting blood tests ( they tried but my veins woundnt come up so i have to go back tomorrow. ) But because im a jonas brothers fan i know the symptoms so i went to the doctor with mum.. they are testing me for Type 1 Diabetes. :( diabetes doesnt run in the family but heritage starts somewhere. so i find out tomorrow whether its diabetes or not but i hope it isnt. i could just be anemic cause they have similar symptoms. x beautiful video i cried :(

My 9 year old has just been diagnose Type 1. It's tough on everyone but remember it's only a life sentence, not a death sentence and the human spirit (particulularly in kids) is strong.
My son is my hero. As sad and as inconvenienced he feels he faces this disease with energy, optimisim and a smile on his face.

im 23 and have had type 1 since I was 14. The comments I get now are "I thought only kids got type 1" and "your too skinny to have diabetes".
There needs to be more awareness and education for type 1. It doesn't go away, the kids turn into adults and we still have diabetes, which seems hard for the general public to understand.

The video is sweet, but tbh it only focuses on the kids and although there is the passing comment about "it lasts a lifetime", I don't think this is ever stressed enough and is something I'm struggling with nowadays. No-one could understand the pain a diabetic goes through unless they have the disease themselves, I wish people would understand that. =[

i was 7 when i got diagnosed and am really sad i had to change3 my ways of eating and everything but together we can fight to get a cure

Diabetes isn't contagious. Diabetes can be dangerous to the person with it if it isn't under control. We as diabetics do the best we can to control our blood sugar levels to the best of our abilities.

i was diagnost at the age of 3 and im 14 it is really hard i wish i was no this way people think its funny that you are not able to eat or drink like them iam very defensive of people that wanna run their mouth about diabetes and i thank u alot for psting sumthing like this thanks!!
