One of the things I will miss the most about the departure of "Guiding Light" (& this is despite the fact that at times GL didn't always live up to that) is it's use of having most of it's characters being in a family (yeah, I know some of those families were messed up & all). But it what endeared me to the show when I first started watching it as a teen back in 1976.
Even though I come from a large family & we generally keep in touch
-- it's still nice to see on TV families played so well as they were on GL (in both good & bad times) -- it will be the thing that will be missed the most (at least imho). It's a reminder that the most important "guiding light" in every person's life is their family members & their homes.
BTW, was that last clip from Ed & Mo's 1983 marriage?
I was so excited, yet so terrified, when Ed came back in time for Rick's wedding and I cried all through those moments. And then Roger, Holly, and Blake. Man, that Thorpe family didn't have many happy moments, but the ones they did have were incredible to see. It was always incredible how good it was to see Roger happy, despite how much of a jerk he could be at times. Alan-Michael and Lucy, Nick and Susan, wow! Brings back some great memories!
WOW! Thank you for watching, and for thinking enough of it to send it to Liz Keifer and then to post her comment! I'm honored that she thinks it's great!
What a beautiful montage, Peter Simon touching Michael O'Leary's heart (back in 2002 when Ed returned for Rick's heart transplant if I'm right), Maureen Garrett & Michael Zaslow, esp. the ending with Charita Bauer...
Question, who's the guy at 2:47, is that Lujack? I could make original Maureen, Floyd Parker & Bea (maybe), but who's the guy lying there
Good eye--that is indeed the original Maureen, Bea, and Floyd Parker in the background. The guy on the gurney is Tony Reardon; he collapsed at the masquerade ball and had to be rushed to Cedars. The bearded man is Jim Reardon. When he rushed to Tony's aid, that was when the family learned that he was back in town after being gone for years, which is why I chose that scene for the lyric "Be careful what you wish for, 'cause you just might get it all, and then some you don't want..."
The Reardons wanted Jim to return to the family fold, but it took Tony collapsing with a hematoma in his brain to get him there. Also, standing in between Bea (with Maureen's arms around her) and Jim is Tony's fiancee and then wife Annabelle Sims, the short-haired woman in the black dress looking down at him and talking to him.
Is there a Part 6 ?

Great music video. I am going to miss all of the different families in Springfield when Guiding Light goes off the air.

Thank you. I think that one of the best things about GL is that there was a real sense of family right up until the end.

Made me tear up and I didn't know half of the characters. So much history in this show. So sad to see it go.
