  • Makes me make another wish for possession of an album, but with sod all money I just stick to YouTube posts as then I'm not breaking the law.

  • This album is a masterpiece!!!.

  • the album sounds so much like her earlier work.

    i absolutely love it.

like loreena and enya, she brings her own gifts to the seasonal music, and it is much needed

  • @thegoochieguy ...I agree! Loreena and Tori have both produced seasonal albums of great beauty. But please also check out Snow Angels by Over The Rhine...utterly enchanting and of a similar vein as Tori

  • Well, I couldn't resist slipping "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" from the Spark single CD into the mix on my iPod (it sits really well after Our New Year.

Just have to decide where to insert "the Little Drummer Boy"

Ha ha! I just read that back to myself...oo er Missus!

  • Between the soaring chorus vocals on Star of Wonder and Winter's Carol, her tightest arrangements in memory and a remarkably cohesive work, I am inspired by the quality of this recording.

While her classical bona fides are on display to a greater extent than in a long time (take a listen to the entire Holly, Ivy and Rose), the breaks (eg., the jazzy Pink and Glitter), make for some surprise elements.

    Absolutely outstanding.

  • Actually, I think a lot of this sounds like old Tori with the exception of Harps of Gold, which makes me very excited (I was afraid it would be a whole bunch of generic sounding synth like some of her recent stuff).

I love hearing just her and her piano and I love to hear her use the harpsichord again!

    I can't wait to own this. :D

  • 36 hours and 7 listens later and yes! This album is a classic...it's official.

Though it helped that I knew all the original source material, even some quite obscure Christmas music.

I guess anyone hoping for "Frosty the Snowman" or "Fairytale of New York :The Baltimore Remix" is going to be disappointed.

  • It is very pity that new Tori album is not popular. This is verry very beatiful WORK ! Tori should change way of her works promotion and mayby manager ! 'Midwinter Graces' is super present for X-mas ! I bought 7 CDs for my best friends. I hope to see official video - clip for 'Silent Night With You' or 'Star of Wonder'... I wish Tori very big success but it doesn't depepend on me. Every Tori's fan should buy her new album - also for best friends for X-mas ! Let's work !!!!

  • ....oh and yes, Tash is adorable on "Holly, Ivy and Rose"... a Cornish Lass Unparalleled.

Sing out strong an' proud, little maid!

  • Well, I've just had that "difficult 1st listen" to the album & damn! It's gonna be a challenge but there a treasures hidden deep here

I understand exactly what she is saying on the bonus DVD ( being Cornish, and raised in the Methodist church, as a singer myself ingrained in the ancient folk and traditional music of Christmas) but it's still not an easy listen...but who wants easy?

Sometimes you have to get off your ass and go to meet the song halfway, not expect it to always come to you!

  • @janknuckey Absolutely. Tori is autonomous art.

  • This album gives me so much joy!

    Thank you again Tori!

    You are my fav forever:-)

  • this album is fantastic!

and for those who liked her earlier work more, should love this album! =)

    keep them coming Tori!

  • I love this album more and more every listen. It embodies everything I adore about winter. This is absolute ear candy, peppermint, wintergreen, icicles and gold ribbons and red velvet cloaks. It doesn't surprise me that she nailed Winter to a Tee. I'm always impressed by Tori Amos' musical vision. I especially love her daughters beautiful vocals, her accent is adorable. God bless Tori Amos and her family.

  • this album sucks big poop. tori amos needs to not make any cd during the holidays. stick to her other work

  • this is great album!!!!

  • zzzzz....

  • this is a HOLIDAY album. tori said in her interview, that she is not promoting christianity or traditional songs in the way that we are "used" to hearing them. the album is absolutely fabulous. "a silent night with you" is genius. those of you stuck in the little earthquakes era need to give it up. she is not that artist anymore. she's grown and continues to grow. she does what she wants not for pop culture, but for pure artistry. if you appreciate that, then you'll see the beauty of this.

  • you wouldn't be so harsh if you held another opinion. Why so harsh just because not everyone likes the new Tori?

I suppose I'm "stuck" because, in my opinion, her best and most inspired work was in the past. After Scarlet Walk, Tori and I parted ways. To each his own, right?

  • Just bought the cd!-its FANTASTIC!!

  • Don't buy this CD thinking it is a Christmas album. Tori again is pure genius. The album is divided into elemental themes/songs and is just magic. A few of the songs brought tears to my eyes. I think some people miss the artistry of Tori's music and her growth. This CD is the light in the cold depth's of winter.

  • When will U backward-thinking, boxed-in cavemen get it? Life, motherhood, time, love change us all. Stop pining for the me-and-a-gun, harping-on-the-violaton-of-rape Tori; that woman no longer exists! Recall when U were 16, 21 or 25. R U still the same mentally? None of us is as were, so y should Tori be? Like all of us, she moves through life, altered by time and its byproducts. Accept, or not, her music, imbued with her blood, sweat and complexity as ever. The time traveling has got very old.

  • The album is GREAT. The production and length is tight...finally! The orchestral arrangements by John P. Shenale are AMAZING. Listen to "Winter's Carol" and you'll completely change your mind about this piece of work. It's not even a "holiday" album. It's more encompassing than tat. Beautiful work. At first I was horrified at the idea of Tori and a seasonal album, but I was pleasantly surprised.

  • stink on your ass

  • lovely!

  • Tori still rocks, it's different though, not the same as it was early on, but i like the changes, the albums are with me as i grow, they are different that way, and unique of themselves, the newer albums, they take more time to understand, more time to appreciate, and that's not a bad thing

  • Okay, in this open forum I would have to agree I am not a big fan of this latests work. I am part of the very old fan base, I do not look for old Tori in new material I just think we are having a long distance relationship. The only Christmas album I've very liked is Sarah M's. I guess I will have to support Tori by making a purchase without breaking the seal...patiently awaiting the next CD TORI.

  • If her next studio album somehow has the same feel as the orchastrations and such do in here, it will be a comeback...

  • I'm not a fan of christmas album, not to mention i'm not even christian, besides, i'm staying in asia, and i'm an asian. But this album captures me, it's like Tori making an album about the winter season instead of she's making album compromise fo x'mas song.Just heard this not long ago from some resources (i know its illegal, but just preview, n m lovin it, defintely will bjuy when it's out!) Intimate, personal, while a taste of joy for the festive, gerat blend of album (i luv this more than SIN

  • Oh and if people are allowed to whine and complain about every nuance of Tori's work - then prepare to be challenged. If your allowed your opinion, then so are those of us who actually like her work. Criticizing someones art doesn't neccesarily mean you are more sophisticated or discerning than anyone else.

  • Sometimes I just want to appreciate her voice without the alternative package, and this lets me did that. Her voice is magic!!

  • Oh, I am just oh so stoked! Can't wait!!

  • Don't get me wrong, I am not hating on Tori, never could, she is my Goddess, but I am not loving this album like the others. Oh well, to each their own, and she is an artist and can and will do as she pleases. More power to her! I LOVE YOU TORI!

  • :( I'm sad to say this is not at all what I was expecting... It seems very bubblegum... rather lackluster... perfect for playing as background music at a Starbucks. *sighs* Well, she's getting older, and it shows. Long gone are the angsty, trend-setting days... we all need to just accept it, and continue to relish our Under the Pink and Boys For Pele CDs with fondness and love.

  • I agree, we will always have Pele and Pink and Scarlet

  • And LITTLE EARTHQUAKES!!!! How could you forget?!

  • OF COURSE! thanks for throwing that in there too.

  • Little Earthquakes is still unmatched, in my opinion. I actually like Choirgirl & Venus too. Was a RABID fan until Scarlet and then sort of less with teach new album. But i love the stuff i heard first - way back to 1991. Getting to see her live way back then was really very special.

  • it's hard to pick ONE favorite, but Earthquakes and Venus and prob. my top 2

  • I agree. She has made her mark. And a strong one at that, now it is all experimenting and fun. Too bad I wasn't alive for those days : ( But I will see hr perform as long as she does!! the fire is still on stage!!!!

  • You a- holes posting nasty comments should take a look in the mirror. How many top 10 albums have you recorded? How many successful world tours have you headlined?

She owes none of you anything. Its her art to create and release as she sees fit. If she's no longer "angry" enough for you or doesnt look or sound a way that's pleasing to you - THEN DON"T LISTEN.

  • Oh please - people are allowed critical thought! Tori is blessed with a lot of talent, but every person on the earth planet doesn't have to like everything she does. And some of us have been having this same discussion for about 20 years. One needn't fall madly in love with everything an artist does in order to be a fan. This Tori Worship is your choice - it doesn't have to be everyone's. 'K? :)

  • Theres a big difference between critical thought and non-constructive hateful comments. I was referring to the people who criticize the way Tori looks or the fact that shes aging ( arent all of us). There was a comment that someone missed the angry young Tori. Thats ridiculous. She would be be a character of herself if she made only "angry" music. Like everyone, Tori has many sides to herself. The fact that she'swilling and brave enought to share them with us makes me happy. Its about respect.

  • this album is simply amazing!!!! you are all crazy people!

  • Down hill. Just like her looks.

  • i miss the poetess who ripped up conventional ways of songwriting.... disappointing, just like most of her recent output.

  • I miss the angry, passionate tori. Is it just me or has she gone soft?? All of these songs are sung in the same key and a Christmas album just doesn't fit with her religious cynicism. I love tori and she has inspired me like no one else. I never thought that I would not buy a tori album, but I am definitely not buying this.

  • i know!!! does she not hear the disappointment from her fans!? slow samey crap all the time... scarlet's walk was the last good album, beekeeper so-so, but everything since = yuck!

  • @cdroessler Yeah, it confuses me a little that she'd put so much feeling and sensitivity into music that represents negative things for her. Perhaps she's had a change of heart? Or at least, doesn't care about it any more? It makes a refreshing change from one of those cheesy Christmas Hits type albums though, eh?

  • i'll have a lot of thumbsdown but i don't care, i don't get it how come you guys are so excited about this, i've loved this woman for more than 10 years now and this is the first CD ever from her that I actually downloaded before I could buy it as I had concernes and yes! - it is a disaster, like a whole record of Ribbons Undone's. Pink and Glitter is OK, but that's it... What's next? I hope Trent Reznor will not surprise us with a Santa Claus record... C'mon Tori! Wake up!

  • lol

  • Don't hate. It's not hypocritical of Tori to release a "seasonal album". She's the daughter of a minister. Many of us who grew up in a "religious" atmosphere and then ventured away - can still appreciate the spiritual aspects, the seasonal feelings of hope, joy, and a new beginning for the new year. Please don't try to turn Tori into a one dimensional artist. If this album is not for you - don't listen to it. Tori is a prolific songwriter. She'll make more.

  • i never said i hate her, jeeeez, god knows how much i love this woman... I didn't say that she's hypocritical either, there's nothing wrong with this Xmas thing - personally I love her take on Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, but these songs are nowhere near that majestic cover... She sounds flat and burnt out and uninspired here. There's nothing Tori about these songs. But I love her all the same, you're right, I probably just won't listen to this EVER - - - Peace. :)

  • i agree. I'm not liking it either. i could only sit through harps of gold/our new year/a silent night. and they're not even that special.

None of the songs i've heard are the type that you have to listen to a couple of times to appreciate.

I think her daughter sings with her on Holly, Ivy & Rose (maybe just a random kid) which might be kinda interesting for a Tori fan.

  • i wouldn't compare any of the songs to Ribbons Undone. That song is just genius in its serenity, honesty & depth. I think it's one of the not-so-many songs that tori wrote right from the heart during the last couple of years.

  • I love the sound of "Harps of Gold", I think that one will be my favourite :)

  • this album has far exceeded my expectations. simply amazing!

  • does anyone know wicht would be the first single o music video???

  • I'm so excited for this album. I'm buying it for my mom for Christmas.

  • tori amos is brilliant!! how often have we heard these generic christmas songs sung and resung with the only differences being the voice? tori has changed some of them dramatically, yet still keeping the spirit of the song and in many cases building on the original theme. Absolutely Brilliant!!!

  • I got hold of the whole album.

    Its fantastic

    Scarlets Walk:5/5

    The Beekeeper:2/5

    American Doll Posse:2/5

    Abnormally Attracted To Sin:3/5

    Midwinter graces:4 and a half/5

  • 1. Scarlet's Walk 3/5 (cuz I didn't quite undersatnd what she was trying to do)

    2. The Beekeeper 5/5 (I don't understand why so many disliked it. I absolutely loved it)

    3. AMerican Doll Posse 4/4

    4. Abnormally Atrracted to Sin 4/5

    5. Midwinter Graces 5/5 (kudos to tori for not giving us more generic pabulum at christmastime...bBrillando)

  • thanks for posting

  • i agree.. i know fans will thumb down this... but i just don't like her voice in recent albums /_\

  • I can't wait to hear "A Silent Night With You" in full. That song sticks out to me more than the others on this album.

  • waiting with bated breath for this.

maybe she will make one for each season.

  • Emmanuel's "Go-oo-od" = WOW! Tori sounds like a normal very likable person here. WEIRD!!!!! and BEAUTIFUL!

  • From these clips, Heart of Gold is my favorite. I cant wait to buy this!

  • I like the picture 4:05, I wanna find that. This album is going to be great, Pink and Glitter is already getting me in the holiday spirit.

  • It was in AP magazine in 2001.

  • How strange Tori making a song called "Emmanuel" and it sounding positive (at least from that small clip) - however, knowing her past blasphemy in her music, she surely must be taking the michael somewhat.

  • This is wonderful!! I too hope her rec. company gets the word out and sells a ton!

  • I wanted right now, :o

  • Right on T! I can just see a bunch of wiccans using a few of these songs in their rituals LOL

  • I should add that even some of the most cynical Tori critics I know LIKE Tash's part in "Holly, Ivy and Rose"--yes, she and Tori's niece Kelsey sing on that one--with Tori, not as backing vocals. Apparently Kelsey has a stunning voice and Tash's part is kind of ghostly and beautiful--not "cutesy" as you might expect. I'm really looking forward to hearing the whole thing. Apparently some of the lyrics are also very pagan, especially "Winter's Carol", which seems to be the general favorite.

  • this album is incredible!!!!

  • I hear this album is a total shocker, much better than anyone expected, and in fact some who've heard it are liking it better than anything she's done since Scarlet's Walk. (Which is, yep, seven years ago.) I really hope her record company gets the word out on this one!!

  • i agree, this album is really fantastic!!!! SO easy to ge t into and such great tunes!

  • at first i was like...uhhmm...but then as usual I open up my ears and feel the Tori i've always and will forever love. She always hits the spot...its too bad that some of you think Tori has lost her edge. There's no one in the industry that even compares to her talent. <3 always David

  • I hope her record company can market the shit out of this album so she can sell a lot of copies. This album has the potential to be very very successful.

  • me too..this album sounds awesome!

  • what the hell, tori?

  • This album will be just amazing!!!!

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • Comment removed

  • i agree. as a whole, i really enjoy it. it's less a christmas album and more a winter themed album. certain songs i LOVE.

  • Where did you here that some family members would be doing a bit of vocals here and there? That's awesome. Please let me know the source of this info

  • I don't know what the hell to think..

  • Can't wait!!!!

  • sounds like she's creating an album with a seasonal theme, instead of singing seasonal songs and put together as a seasonal album. that's cool.

  • Star of Wonder! :D

  • OHHHH i like pink and glitter! :)

  • Wow I'm very pleasantly suprised, I'm not usually a holiday album fan but this sounds superb, I'll definitely be getting it when it comes out, thanks for posting the previews!!! :)

  • Star of Wonder is phenomenal :) Looking forward to it all!

  • Cannot wait! :) Sounds beautiful with all the orchestration...something we don't have the pleasure of hearing from you much anymore. Love the harpsichord again!

  • Where's the pic at 2:14 from? I've never seen it before and it's hot!

  • How about :50?! Never seen that 1, either: )

  • I think the one at 0:50 is photoshopped. Tori has never had boobs like that before.

  • looove snow angel

  • love harps of gold!

  • Finally, a holiday album I can look forward to. Thank you, Tori! I needed it this year!

  • So happy! Cant wait to get it.

I can imagine sipping a hot cinnamon tea on a cold winter's night - while Midwinter Graces plays. Heaven.

  • YAY

  • Thank YOU for putting this up! :D

  • It's such an impressive bunch of songs.... now if only for some toned-down artwork it'd be a perfect album hehe.

Harps of Gold and Jeanette,Isabella are the only two tracks I don't like on it.

  • Sounds so Pagan, she's the best!

  • Comment removed

  • soooooo great!

    im so excited

  • SO happy the harpsichord is back!!

  • can't wait.

  • It will be way less cheesy it could have been !
