  • I really miss that long piano solo. They cut it out in the music videos (UK and US versions).

  • Filipino? That guys white. Lmao.

  • Gosh soo much beauty in one song! I can't take it! :D

  • Hahaa the Americas are weak omg lol The Americans turned down the original video cause its was too weird. As Angelica Huston said about her movie the witches the reason it was a hit in Europe and on the usa is they europens have a stronger stomachs. The Americas also turned down the video for i want to brake free

  • @EmoDeathStar121 douche bag

  • Wish I could dance in the rain with her.

  • I always thought this was Alanis morissette. Guess I was dead wrong.

  • just going through the motions of a Kate Bush song, minus Kate Bush's good song-writing...

  • The things were going I was pretty sure this video was going to end with a one

    big and happy orgy

  • discovered Tori Amos way back in highschool! Class of 2000, she was what I needed at the time, she touched my heart and soul =)

  • you own nothing? heres 20 bucks

  • @mrwalter455 THANKS! lol

  • but what really makes this video total garbage is putting in a bunch of phoney actresses(stupid useless dykes) to give it that edge, tori doesnt need that useslesshits, music is good enough w/out having a bunch of useless stupid dykes femnints try to use this as their national anthem .

  • this garbage is made specifically for stupid dykes gross butches and worthless feminists

  • @countbloodula sounds like you need some tampons, esp. with that username :p

  • And the man with the golden gun, thinks he knows so much, thinks he knows so much, yeah... :D

  • @baw0909 hi what is the name of the guy?

  • @jasondeguia2 Christopher Douglas

  • US VERSION SO MUCH BETTER!!

  • a wonderful song masterfully performed by its maker :)

  • who is that guy on this video, he's filipino looking, beautiful

  • @jasondeguia2 I thought the white guy looked indonesian or samoan :)

  • Argh they will say anything to stop it in it tracks and dominate this rebellious voice

  • i like this song very much, Tori great talent.

  • this has to be about the catchiest song I've ever heard...

  • i saw her in concert portsmouth 1993 just after kurt cobain died what a voice out of this world. just her a piano

  • @MonyVibescu1919 She was raped, sober and by knife point, after he offered to drive her home from her waitressing job. I don't think this has anything to do with that...

  • This song is a classic song about Betrayal Tori says so in her biography which was an awesome thing to read btw :)

  • Oddio!

  • @MonyVibescu1919

I don't think so. "Me and a gun" is about this, not cornflake girl

  • Have Tori Amos & Dave Mustaine ever been seen in the SAME place & the SAME time before? Just sayin...

  • @ngd138 Both ginger haired, both awesome...Well, they have sth in common :D

  • @ngd138 LOL! Brilliant observation.

  • Downhill. I don't know his level. He definitely wants an open marriage. Good to know. Thanks.

  • I was wondering if a woman or a man changed this. A woman changed this. A man was thinking of you. Thanks.

  • i like more the UK version fror this video, but this it's ok too

  • This is about sexual freedom and expression cornflakes do your research cornflake was about abstainance and sexual prohibition so a cornflake girl would be something of a virgin possibley a prude the rasin girls would the opposite of that feminist who are all about sexual freedom and expression this song is about casting of the chains of sexual repression.

  • tumbs up if you would father children by her

  • you bet your life it is

  • women are deceptive twisted bitches...i am a woman myself, and been deceived in the most horrible ways possible by other women, starting with my mother since childhood.. i i will NEVER again trust another woman again..as long as i live. End of story. I will listen to their music and admire where admiration is due, which it is in Toris case. She's a brill artist!!

  • @reallyfullofmyself ----well said!

  • 1 person like frosted flakes

  • She never was a cornflake girl -- she never was a milk white run of the mill stereotype girl and couldn't fit into that mold.

  • @PlushieLenny Personally, I like thought provoking discussions regarding lyrical content as long as people are being civil about it. :) It's a lot more interesting than a lot of the same ole boring "oooh ahh nice vid blabla etc" sorta comments. So, what do you believe the meaning of the video is?

  • @ShockResistor your right, removed my comment.

  • Saw her live in Tennessee and she was AMAZING!

  • What do you expect from Tori Amos ? Her father was a minister.

  • ...wtfis up witht he person soup at the end..

  • God this American version of the video sucks, but wow, who knew a song about genital mutiliation could be so good

  • I love this song, I love Tori

  • ok, I never comment on the numbers, cus i'm not a douche, but who had to be that ONE guy??

  • Does she remind anyone else of Rose from "The Titanic"?

  • genital mutilation, in reference to butchers.

Ei: selling or destroying there selfness, there sexuality and there womanhood.

  • awwwwwwww i miss the 90s :<

  • best song of my life:)))

  • Me and her share our birthday!

  • Tori and Fiona Apple should do a song together

  • no, FA is a talentless hack

  • i don't really care what this song is about, or about hidden meanings. its a great song and thats all that should matter.

  • @jasonfussell999 its not a hidden meaning, it IS the meaning, the song is about genotal mutiliation and women against women, if u listen to a song and are clueless about its theme ur dumb

  • And I thought the song meant poster girl for cereals.!

  • Tori Amos is a very talented person. Some of the characters on here are thinking completely out of the box. I know new ways are in now but damn Tori is not trying to be out of the box like some on here are saying. PLEASE STOP TRYING TO READ WHAT HER LYRICS ARE MEANING. because its just that A WONDERFUL AND TALENTFUL SONG.. I know if she was to read this she is LHAO at yall. JUST BE SIMPLE AND ENJOY HER MUSIC.

  • with my encyclopedia, they musta paid a real nice price. shes putting on her string bean love. well this is not really this a this a this is not really happening. you bet your life it is. you bet your life it is. oh, you bet your life. its a peal out the watch word just peal out the watch word. and the man with the golden gun thinks he knows so much, thinks he knows so much yah.

  • never was a cornflake girl. thought that was a good solution, hangin with the raisin girls. shes going to the other side. giving us the old heave ho. things are getting kind of gross. and i go at sleepy time. this is not really this a this a this is not really happening. you bet your life it is. you bet your life it is. you bet your life. its a peal out the watch word just peal out the watch word. she knows whats going on. seems weve got a cheeper feel now all the sweetees are gone.

  • Part of the beauty of her music is not fully understanding her lyrics right away. It takes time for me to figure them out, but I eventually do. It shows how talented of a writer she truly is. She challenges your mind and she makes you think. How many artists today can do that? Then again, she was never an A-lister. But that's only because she is not a mainstream artist. I wish she could go back to piano rather than heavy guitar use like in her later material. She has great piano ballads!

  • i heard this song in school. i think it's awesome.

  • I mutilated my genitals to this song because it is so clearly about the subject. When she says cornflake girl, it means she stuffs crushed up cornflakes in her vag which cause small cuts and so forth, but then they get soggy, so she stuffs raisins up her vag which have enzymes that cause infection and then she spoons them out as part of a nutritious breakfast.... how the hell can you people not see that?

  • @gzussturbo i love you

  • @gzussturbo you have made my day lol

  • Why would anyone think its about female mutilation?!?!?!?!?!?! Just ENJOY the song!!!! It is a BEAUTIFUL song!!!! let it be just that!!

  • OK, the genital mutilation song is the one where she sings, "Chickens, get a taste of her meat". THAT song is about female genital mutilation. This song is not.

  • @laulbow

Oh, wow, I love "Blood Roses!" That is one hell of an album. She's never done another predominantly piano album ever since.

  • I listened to Tori Amos from the very beginning. To me she was this beautiful talent that was born with a piano and a poet inside of her. I never understood why so many people put her in the same category with man-hating singers from the '90s. Until now.

First time I have seen this (gave up on MTV a loooong time ago) and this does not do her any justice. Listen to the piano near the end and they produced this crap for her?

Oh and if you don't get the song meaning, just stop trying.

  • i love the look on her face when she says "they must of paid her a nice price"

  • My Mix pit stop!!! this song is number 2 on my mix cd. (=^.^=)

  • I have Under The Pink, but my music collection's so big, that I somehow never listened to this song. Anyways, it's a great song, and Tori's ripping it up towards the end of the song. It almost makes me regret my decision to switch from piano to guitar.

  • first i seen this video maybe it good

  • I love this song...tori is so outspoken...I love that about her....I don't ever want to shut up because of her LOL

  • I remember the studio version of this song having two piano solos in the end. Is the second solo not a part of the video (UK version had only one solo as well)?

  • watchword means war cry. slogan to gain support

  • @mememaking

i didn't really know what that meant but now I get it. Thanks, mate! Someones a smart cookie LOL!

  • yeah I don't know where anyone here came up with the genital mutilation connection with this song but it's WRONG....Cornflake just means "plain" and she tried hanging with the raisin girls means she tried hanging with the richy girls. the song is about 2 women fighting....it's simple just listen to it... if that is too hard look up interviews where she says what I just said. the internet is right in front of you

  • @mememaking

From an Under the Pink interview with Tori about Cornflake Girl - “So Cornflake, Bells, and Waitress are a triangle together. Part of this record is dealing with the betrayal of women, between women. These three, Cornflake is, I’ve been reading Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker. It went in depth of just women betraying women, and how the mothers really sold their daughters to the butchers, and had their genitalia removed, et cetera."

  • @HalcyonSunset Uhhh... Dude youre looking into it too hard.

  • @mememaking the connection is because the song was inspired when Tori read Alice Walker's "Possessing the Secret of Joy"

  • @mememaking actually maybe you should read the interviews where Tori says the song is inspired by the genital mutilation in an Alice Walker book, it's about women betraying women and that was one of her inspirations.

  • @mememaking I was just a teenager when this came out and all I remember was her lovely hair and beautiful lips! ...oh well I spent many years and lots of tears trying to find a girl who could compare to tori, and I found her her!! no for real! 1999 in London but alas she had to leave and go back to the U.S. ... What was odd is that she was called Regina-she was on the 2nd year music course with me- and years later a freind of mine gave me a download of a track I recorded with her at the time.

  • @mememaking It's inspired by her anger at the stories of genital mutilation. I advise you check your own sources :) She read the book "Possessing the Secret of Joy" by Alice Walker

  • @mememaking i always thought this song was to do with her struggle through child abuse. not saying i'm right

  • @mememaking she said it herslef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I read the Alice Walker book, Possessing the Secret of Joy, and there's umm, in that book, the mothers take the daughters to the butchers to have their, let's say their genitalia removed. "

  • "And even though it's a patriarchal culture that she's talking about, and that this custom was put into practice a long, long time ago by the patriarchy, it's the mothers that take their daughters. And, what I was singing about was, it's funny how from generation to generation women really betray each other in the ladies' room." - Tori Amos 99X Radio Interview, 08/05/94

  • @mememaking Other way around. I remember her saying that she would be prefer to be called a "Raisin Girl" because "Cornflake Girls" are self-centered and mean.

  • @mememaking No, you are wrong and it says so all over the internet. The inspiration for "Cornflake Girl" came from Alice Walker's novel Possessing the Secret of Joy, about a young African woman going through the ritual of female genital mutilation., and the song arose as an exploration of the idea of betrayal between women. In the song women are referred to: the "Raisin Girls" are "multicultural" and open-minded, while the "Cornflake Girls" of the title are "narrowminded and full of prejudice".

  • @mememaking THANK YOU

  • Amazing song. Wow. She was born when my mom was born and she still looks f***able. I'm a chick and even i'll say that. Amazing lyricist, singer, beautiful woman, awesome performer.

  • Through her interviews it's about female genital mutilation. She was appalled by what women would do to their daughters for the acceptance of society and men.

Cornflake girl is a narrow minded individual and raisin girl is open minded, more cornflakes in a box, raisins are hard to find etc.

Watchword means to reply to a challenge so the woman is taking that voice away from the other, ie, peeling it out.

Man with the golden gun means simply that men have the power. My interpretations.

  • @HalcyonSunset thank you for a very insightful and informative answer. I had no idea what this great song was about. I have read quite a bit about the cultural practice of female mutilation. It's horrible! Many Muslims practice it quite a bit. The horrid custom is just one more reason in a long line of reasons to keep Muslims in check in Western society. Sharia Law, my ass! So-called MODERATE Muslims need to speak up. SILENT ALL THESE YEARS.

  • @rockyracune What a shame ! You're just ignorant... Go buy some books, and read about foreign cultures, maybe then you'll have reasons to have enemies in this world, but not before that. Obviously you've never read anything serious about history of mankind or civilization or even religions. Please stop repeating what you've heard on Fox News or read in crappy newspapers. You're being manipulated, brainwashed and you're too blind to see. Wake up !

  • @kaboubass, Muslims have been known to bury women up to their necks before stoning them to death; they have perpetuated the deplorable cultural practice of mutilating little girls through female circumcision; they have committed "honor killings" against daughters deemed too independent by Muslim fathers; they have punished “uppity” women by cutting off their ears and lips; and they have thrown acid on the faces of elementary school girls to discourage the girls from pursuing an education.

  • @rockyracune Go through history and you can easily find disgusting and hrooible things about every religions, Hindus and their terrible caste system, or catholics and a child abuse cover up, no one is right, but tarring everyone in a faith as the same is ignorant and silly

  • @rockyracune FYI, Female mutilation has got nothing to do with muslims. Very few tribes in Africa have such customs, but these customs were there long before Islam even existed ! The point is that islam is supposed to be a tolerant religion, and therefore acknowledged the customs of the land where it established.

BTW I'm an atheist, I truly think religions are rubbish and lies. But I read seriously about them before making my own opinion. And that's what you should do before saying stupidities.

  • @rockyracune I couldn't agree more. Muslims are more loyal to their religion than the sovereignty of the country they occupy.

  • @chessarama Nationalism is just as retarded and misleading as ANY of your retarded religious leanings, leads to the same prejudices, wars, etc...

  • @feedusafetus You're right about the wars. But Nationalism is about defending your country against enemies foreign and domestic. You have your freedom ONLY becuause of Nationalists who have spilled their blood on this soil. Religious wars are a waste because you're fighting for an imaginary entity that doesn't exist.

  • @chessarama how can an America though be anyway in favour of nationalism when the country was made by others invading and killing native americans

  • @noreexic Nationalism is a philosophy practiced by many citizens from many countries. It's not limited to the US. Yes, we stole this land from the Native Americans but many countries and many religions have done worse.

  • @feedusafetus Americans loyalty should be to freedom, individual rights and limited government. Our ideas made our nation, not the soil.

  • @rockyracune I can understand your dislike for some Muslim customs, but the one regarding female mutilation has to do with culture not religion. Even if some Muslim families do it, they do so because of the customs of their country/region, it has nothing to do with Islam itself (that's like calling "eating turkey at thanksgiving" a christian custom because a lot of christian families in America do it)

Female mutilation has nothing to do with Sharia.

  • @rockyracune What a horrible comment! we need to "keep the Muslims in check" ???!!!?!? really? They are not animals. You should probably go read some books and educate yourself. That is if a naive person like you even knows how to read intelligent literature.

  • What the Sam Hill is a cornflake girl?

  • Comment removed

  • @rockyracune i don't know but it doesn't need to make sense she's tori amos

  • she's too amazing.

  • I love this song! Tori's awesome, I've been a fan of hers for almost 20 years. Love you Tori.....<3
