this piece is so deep and emotionally moving. i almost feel it holds the suffering of all the ppl in the world. i wish we could get like massive speakers, loud enough so the whole world can hear, and play this piece. I think it could stop everyone in their tracks...everyone at war, all the street gangs and fights, all the hungry and the greedy, etc. everyone, and make everyone feel something moving and powerful. it could change the world:) or maybe I am just moved by it that much lol
The Duduk (pronounced doo-dook) is considered the most "Armenian" of all folk instruments because of its Armenian origins and its ability to honestly express the emotions of the Armenian people. It has a 1500 year history and is native to Armenia although there are variants played in Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. The duduk reflects the passion, celebration, and suffering of Armenia. Aram Khatchadourian once said that the duduk is the only instrument that made him cry.
To those who are completely are unaware of this music. This is ARMENIAN music and not Middle East and Peter Gabriel is not the composer of it. However, our sincere thanks and blessings to him and to his great talent who has made a masterpiece out of this precious piece of music and let many people to feel the magnificence of ARMENIAN music and soul. God bless ARMENIA and Peter Gabriel.
This is indeed a great piece of music but I wouldn't say the music of the Middle East is the 'most' compelling, why should it be ? I think blues music is more compelling. It's all about opinions.
@ScotRanger1960 Music is a socialized taste, and yet it also transcends those barriers. I grew up in the U.S., and I am familiar with blues, which I love. The first time I heard this, I was not familiar with Middle Eastern-style music, and yet it touched a very universal and primordial place inside, that was always there, but never recognized. That may not have happened for you. But it happened for me.
This is the opener of the soundtrack to the movie the last temptation of christ a movie by martin scorsese. The working title and name of the album is passion and it is the best music Peter ever composed
Dear friends. This is a great Peter Gabriel's master piece. The whole motion picture soundtrack is worth listening and enjoying, inviting us to reflect and meditate about ourselves, our lifes in non physical terms. I invite you to read your favorite and more challenging ideas with this music. Alberto.
Beautiful...
