i work with alot of indians and from their view, they all thought Bevan was a genius. They regarded him as the best player to come from Australia. Yet us aussies did them a favour and dropped him. Shame on us (Aussie cricket board)!!
michael bevan is i rekn the best ODI batsmen of all time. he made ODI's awesome. its too bad a lot of ppl think that the game is over cos of T20s. ODIs are still awesome and hopefully they will last, would be a pity to see nothing else but T20 as limited over cricket
@jackwills101 i believe i have, i am indian after all. tendulkar has only recently played some amazing match winning innings, before he used to succumb to the pressure of big matches as well as batting under tight situations. im not discarding tendulkar in anyway, he is probably the greatest batsman in the last 50 years, but yeah i just think that bevan was better than him in odis simply because he was able to win so many matches for australia and made odis so thrilling for me.
interesting to note that it was these batsmen's wives who changed the way that cancer nursing is handled too. Tracey Bevan runs the Jane McGrath Foundation
Lets not forget McGrath's effort to get a single off his first ball. This game was Awesome!!!!! Bevan is the guy I'd want on my side if there was an alien cricket invasion. Kudos :)
I remember the game you're talking about buddhaboony I was there. It was at the MCG NZ made 245 and we were 7/78. One of my mates left and I remember saying to him "we're still a chance while Bevan is in" he said "no way". It was an unbelievable innings by Bevan well backed up by Bichel and Lee who made around 30 each. We won in the last over.....classic.
What about the innings in 2001-2 versus New Zealand when Australia was just about gone and forgotten and Bevo came in and scored a miraculous century and got them across the line. Surely someone must remember that one. Bevan's finest innings in one day cricket
Hmm, I can't remember that off the top of my head but I am sure I watched it. I watched all the one dayer's over that period. When one dayer's were exciting and it seemed more important to win. This 20/20 is nothing but trouble for the 50 over game. Only the die hard cricket fans will be left to follow the 50 over game while the rest of the impatient people will watch the 20 20.
Maybe that game can be found on dvd ? If anyone has this game you are talking about, post some of it please.
It might be hard to find as it was not a final, just one of the games in the triangular series. It was an amazing exciting innings. If anyone out there has it, I would love to see it again. 20/20 cricket is rubbish I agree, but surely those that watch test cricket are the diehard fans. The future of the 5 day game looks bleak, which saddens me. If test cricket dies, cricket dies with it. They will have to call it something else
You're right ! Test cricket is the real cricket. It was boring to watch during the era of Boon and Marsh at the crease. But I like watching test cricket as much as one day stuff. I don't know what the future holds for test cricket , I think it's in the hands of the players and the media. When you get guys like Brett Lee or Mcgrath or Ponting saying that test cricket means more to them than any other form of the game, thats good . Just hope the media doesn't kill test cricket.
@buddhaboony YOUR CRAZY CRICKET HAS BEN SAVED BY 20/20 TEST CRICKET IS DEAD PEOPLE WANNA SEE 6'S NOT BATSMEN PLAYING EVERY SHOT BACK TO THE BOWLER AT AROUND 2 RUNS PER OVER COMPARED TO 10-15 RPO IN 20/20 I ALWAYS SIT DOWN NTO WATCH TEST AFTER 1ST 10-15 OVERS IM BORED
@buddhaboony ay man, i remember that game, australia was on the brink of collapse coz the top order were all fools trying to smash the ball out of the park. Bevo came in at 6/85 (or around there) and batted with the bottom order (most notably andy bichel) and WON! does any1 have footage of this game?
I'm looking for a specific innings that Bevan played that isn't on youtube but maybe is available on cricinfo records - it was Australia vs The World XI, and Bevan playing another fantastic innings that almost took the game away from The World XI. I first noticed Bevan there.
Hmm, I personally don't have that game. But is that the game that was at the MCG and Dean Jones played for the World XI and made over 100 ? Maybe it was later on . Maybe around the Brian Lara days. I 'm sure someone has it .
All I know it it was Aus vs the World and Bevan was almost took Aus to a win, but the World side won in the end but it was very close. Must be that game.
I remember breaking the lights in my parents lounge room when he hit that four. My dad didn't even get up me....I jumped up and smack...my arms went up and I smashed the light cover....I was hooked for life....
Yeah, for some reason the games back then seemed to mean more to the fans. I think a win like that today wouldn't get as much attention especially with 20 20 cricket around which I am not a fan of. But yeah I will never for get that ending
I'm a Sri Lankan fan living in Australia, but I yearn for the fans and the characters we had in the game in the 90s. I hated the Aussie team back then with a passion because they dominated the game. Now I just hate them because they are boring to watch :(
What a legend. ODI master.
