Operating systems play a vital part on controlling and branching CPU time and thus determine the overall efficiency of a benchmark such as this.

@HaloSpartanG13 not at all, just the old Linux kernels wouldn't be accesible for new technologies, but can be useful for an old computer, thing that is not possible with windows as it requires always a faster computer for the newer version. But this is only the Linux kernel, the real support of Linux relies on its distributions, you can use new versions of the package manager, the GUI, etc. but the kernel can be any version since you adjust it to support new technologies.
