  • just read My Brother Paul, so i just had to hear this for myself :)

  • Yea! Indiana state song!

  • Single sided record, Not Bad. I' m Paul Dresser, and here's the future of Music: Eventide Poetry Music

  • It's good . But realize that a female vocal for this song makes all the difference> Paul Dresser... You might want to check this out: Eventide Poetry Music

  • wait this is my state song right..ive heard it but without the singing...

    i live in Huntington, IN

  • Great old song. I grew up in a village and

now live in Los Angeles. I think big cities

are too stressful for healthful living.

    Tx 4 the nostalgic post.

  • Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, be it ever so humble, there's no place like Home.

  • Unterland, So true, so true! Thank you for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • I was born in Memphis, TN but I have lived in the Indianapolis area now for about four years and I've grown to love Indiana.

  • And I thought a hoosier was a cross between a stocking salesman and a vacuum cleaner!

  • indiana is good and all( i live in huntington, and im 14) but i gotta say its kinda getting boring( if only it was more like chicago or somethin, then ide like it better)

  • i sthere a version thats not so fuzzy ?

  • joehandcock01, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) I'm sure there's a few more renditions here on YouTube. I've put this on the list to re-record at some point in the future-we'll see. Thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

    Regards, J.

  • Arrudabug, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) I'm detecting a pattern here-Hoosiers love Indiana! *WINK WINK* You have a lot to be proud of. Thanks for watching.

  • Clayjohnson2465, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Wonderful sentiment. I'm pleased you enjoyed the record.

    Regards, J.

  • Thank you for putting this type of music out there for those of us who like to hear it !

  • Tm462, It's great fun to do these little clips. I'm just so pleased that there are so many people out there who enjoy them. Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the number. Regards, J.

  • That the author of Sister Carrie, Jennie Gerhardt, The Financier, The Genius, and An American Tragedy wrote a few of these lyrics explains some of the emotional reach of his novels. Their power can be measured by the distance between the sentimentality of this song and the crushing force of Theodore Dreiser's vision. Worth reading is Dreiser's tender account "My Brother Paul" in Twelve Men (1919). Paul is Paul Dresser (ne Dreiser), the writer duly credited on the record label seen in this clip.

  • I was looking for a clip from a W.C. Fields movie in which they sing this song, and found this instead...very nice! Looking through the other videos...what a great and worthy project, giving all those old recordings a digital rendition accessible to the world!

  • Eustacelufgren, Thank you for the compliment. It has given me great pleasure to be able to share some of my little collection. I'm pleased you enjoyed a bit of it. Regards, J.

  • Beautiful song! Looking out the window, I can see waving cornfields and cool woodlands. I love Indiana.

  • Unterland, Thank you for the kind comment. Regards, J.

  • I get misty eyed whenever I hear this song. There really is no place like home.

  • Belairbolt, This, I think, is one of those songs that makes everyone yearn for hearth and home. I'm a city boy and it makes me long for simplier the times of youth. So glad you enjoyed it. Regards, J.

  • Does anyone know when the model 163 was made and marketed..I'm thinking 1927-1929 era.

  • Calumettv, Probably or until a year or two later. Sadly there isn't nearly as much information out there about Columbia as there is about VTMCo. Regards, J.

  • I like that machine and song, I live in Indiana so maybe thats why. I also own a Model 163 Viva-Tonal. I think these machines are right on par with alot of full size consoles. They have a great volume and nice bass, especially if you can find a good shiny viva-tonal record. My experience for some reason...Viva-Tonals are worn grey in color.

  • Calumettv, Funny thing about Viva-Tonals, you can't always go by looks. I have some that look pretty bad, but sound very good. But you right-when they're clean, they are amazing records. Some very quiet surfaces! Regards, J.

  • I had to sing this (not by myself) at one of my fourth grade programs. (I think we did better only cause well this doesn't have an electric piano playing it) I live in Indiana. I'm elevan.

  • Katie.., Welcome to YouTube. I'm sure you and your classmates did a wonderful job with this tune. It's one of my favorite songs. Regards, J.

  • The state song of Indiana...Paul Dresser was a musical genius.

  • Belairbolt. I didn't know that-thank you. So glad you enjoyed it as well. Regards, J.

  • Paul Dresser was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN...my hometown. He was quite a character. I collect anything, including sheetmusic) related to "On the Banks of the Wabash" and Paul Dresser. If you are interested, Clayton W. Henderson has written an interesting book on Dresser entitled "On the Banks of the Wabash."

  • Belairbolt, Thank you. I'll look for it. Regards, J.

  • A great song. The chorus was sung in The Jolson Story by the actor playing the young AL, the World's Greatest Entertainer, for sure.

  • I've always liked the Shannon Quartet. It's a great change of pace to hear an electric recording of this old acoustic era classic!

  • Yes, A great classic sung by a great quartet! YF, J.
