Back when there were no emulators for Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald you had to do this over and over again by saving before saving Whatshisface or start a new game. It's not a trick, it's math. It's like a probability of 1/552 or something that a Poke'mon will be Shiny. It's like doing the slots the more you do it the more likely it is you will find one.

That's actually a good thought.  I know people soft reset for starters, but this is much faster. Of course, if you're on an emulator, you could just enter codes and get it faster, but at least this is "semi-legit". For an emulator, at least.

It's just save states and patience. Shiny pokemon are a 1 in 8192 chance. Just get a normal one. Most of the time shiny pokemon look dumb anyway.

At a normal game you can do the same but you have to save just before getting it and press either A+B+Start+Select (GBA) or L+R+Start+Select. But this seems to be easier :)
