1:09 > Unlike Hitler, who went out of his way to avoid any of the myriad of unpleasantries that he himself had caused not only to his own peoples, but that of so many millions of others, like a rat to shelter. This is meant with no offense to rats, you understand. :o)o:
@vbsurfstud20 hitler never went amongst his bombed out people. he never talked about defeats or the dangers of the situation. i do not know on what level the german people could have felt he was in contact with them.
I'm from Canada and I hate how Americans don't like how Canada didn't fight in some wars (i.e Vietnam) and on one Simpsons episode they made fun of Canada by showing a Canadian Museum Called "Dodgers of Foreign Wars"...yet AMERICA was the country that didn't fight in the most IMPORTANT wars, you know, World War One, World War Two, the WORLD WARS !!!?? America didn't join World War 2 until late 1941 and World War 1 until it's FINAL YEAR !!! jerks
These weren't our wars, you moron. We fought a revolutionary war in the late 18th century for independence. The European carnage was an intramural sport for hundreds (actually a few thousand) years. You Canadians, on the other hand, were members of the British Commonwealth and as such had a responsibility to participate in the British war commitments. BTW, genius, the reason World Wars I and II resolved when they did and how they did is precisely because the US did finally come in and save 'em.
@jackrussell19a: You quibble over my correct usage of the tense "were" because you misunderstood the reference. The subject was Claronium780's historically illiterate accusations regarding America's role in WWI & WWII. I responded with "These [ie WWI & WWII] weren't our wars" which sets the context. "[At the time of WWI & WWII] Canadians were members of the British Commonwealth and as such had a responsibility to participate in the British War commitment."
I Visited the both the Comonwealth, canadian and american cemeteries this summer in normandy and saw the graves from the allied nations.... if it wasn't for american lend/lease and the convoys across the atlantic plus hitlers mad policy attacking the soviet union there by bringing them into the conflict i might well be in a slave camp in a totally different europe... as for for the simpsons look at them slaging us irish move on.. it's just the simpsons...World war 1 was all about Empire
I'm Canadian & we were told during our history courses that the U.S. was attempting to "help" the cause. There were stories of planes being towed across the boundary lines by the U.S. & that the Canadians would deal with the planes. It took W.W. I & W.W. II for the U.S. to draining the money out of England (that it took centuries to build up). I highly doubt that the U.S. would be so well off today if it had not waited to join in.
The US didn't arm Hitler or actively use war to "drain" the UK in any way. The US had been coping with the Great Depression and the idea of entering a foreign war was unpopular. Public support for entering the war grew slowly, and FDR wasn't able to make large-scale commitments until after his re-election in 1940.
Wasn't Canada a Commonwealth of Great Britain? Wasn't it far more politically expedient for Canada, Australia, New Zealand & colonies like India to play an active role earlier on?
I'm from Canada also and you will have to excuse some of the stupidity from petty Canadians that have a severe inferiority complex when it comes to America...lotsa moronic anti americans up here....some of us are more enlightened and realize that without American power, we could never have won WW 2 and contain the equally brutal communists for 50 years afterwords.
I like Canada a lot - and there is no reason for any Canadians to have an inferiority complex, far from it. You have it all over us when it comes to civil liberties and access to health care.
Actually that isn't true....you can be thrown in prison here for speaking out against multiCULTurism or homosexuality...we have Orwellian Hate Crime tribunals...so no, we are far behind you in civil liberties...though with the current admin you have, you may catch up and surpass us...As far as 'healthcare' goes, we pay far more in tax then you and you can literally die waiting to get your healthcare here in Canada...granted, the U.S. system has its flaws too...both are systems are deficient..
@Albertanator Yes, here in Britain - once the home of Free Speech you can be arrested for supporting traditional family life. Three years ago an elderly couple were arrested for peaceably supporting traditional family life at a local authority funded campaign for gay marriage. Just one of many examples of how so-called liberals employ fascist methods to get their way. I well remember the fascist, bullying left/liberal brainwashing at university - this brainwashing is normal.
@pinchmeImnotdreaming Very sad indeed and shocking....and you have a radical islamic problem that presents a horrific problem for your nation and for that matter, all western european nations! I hope you guys wake up soon...I do not want to see Europe go under a new dark ages!
As an American, I thank you very much for your very kind comments about America. I certainly agree with cryptsub that there is no reason for any Canadian to have an inferiority complex toward America or toward any other country. You have been blessed with some of the most beautiful and productive real estate on the face of the earth, and having travelled in Canada extensively, I can tell you that the Canadian people are some of the friendliest, kindest, and most generous people anywhere.
And yet many Canadians do have an inferiority complex..especially down east in Southern Ontario...that is where the high degree of Anti Americanism (Jealousy) comes from...and on our Left Coast...ie Vancouver....You have to understand, Number One (America in terms of economic and military strength) will always have its idiotic detractors.....Canadians have NO right to complain about their best friend and ally America...you guys defend us...and decent Canadians are thankful for that.
...though it did take a declaration of war by Germany for the US's involvement to become total. But measures like the Lend/Lease Act were being employed before Pearl Harbor and Hitler's declaration.
Ruth Benedict Arnold. Just as terrorists love liberals, Hitler loved people like her.

Why in the world would Canadians have any real animosity towards the United States? It's like hating your reflection in a mirror.
