Don't forget LONGNOSE PLIERS. You will need them to pick the nuggets out of the cracks. Don't drop them nuggets, once the hard clay is suctioned out them cracks are up to 10 ft deep. There alot of spots with light overburden. You need at least a 6" for the slow water areas. FAST WATER=GOLD NUGGETS. You may pull a few Chinese coins out, I got 6 coins from there and 3 opium pipes. This area reloads after every HEAVY storm season or every 5 years or so of normal rain runoff.
First come, first serve.> Aub to Foresthill, R on Mosquito Ridge Rd, R on Interbay Road down to the dam.(all season road, plowed in winter by Placer Water Dist) go past the dam. Either float dredge across Power outlet (when off) or hike trail above and past the power station and under the station feed pipe coming down the mtn to your right. Procede up the river at least 400 yds and from there you find BEDROCK CROSSING the river...take your pick. Or the trees and cracks near waterline and above.
The deeper you go, the faster the water the less accessible is where the virgin clunkers are. Them old timers n Chinese had not means to move the 3 ton boulders from deep and even if they did no means to grab-up them nuggets from freezn waters. You want to find NUGGETS and stop mess'n with the lite stuff? Take your 4 and go to this spot or take your sluice and a 5 ft cracker bar, 5# sledge, good long pike chisel, narrower chisel, cut milk plastic as a scoop, sniff tube, 5 gal bucket(see above).
Fine stuff for wintertime rainy n snowy days. Save it for that.
Notice there no nuggets in these films. Ya doin the the new gold bug chicken hunt. Mining like a chicken with no head. Take a good season to learn a stretch of river and take alot bigger and deeper hole to find the big stuff. Them edge of the river pieces are just new flush and leftovers from the gold days. Sure, there the occasional thumbsize pcs. Most people don't realize the easy access areas were scoured by the old timers.
CLASSIFY THE CONS FROM 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 100 MESH, IF YOU CAN GET SMALLER EVEN BETTER, USE THE BLUE BOWLTO CLEAN THE CONS, WHEN YOU DO A CONCENTRATE CLEAN-UP WITHIN IT'S OWN CLASSIFICATION, YOU'LL SEE AN INCREASE IN RECOVERY SPECIALLY THE FINER GOLD GETS, IT ALL ADDS UP.
it depends on how much cons i run through it , if i am doing just a hand full of screened dirt or sand i run it low, 1&1/2 from the top. if i am running a lot of volume threw it i run it higher. but no higher then 1/4th of a inch from the top.the point of useing the bowl is to allow the gold to settle on the bottom and the dirt to flow with the water out and over the center.
i love the video, i have a question if you can answer it? i know it takes 40,000 fines to add up to 1 ounce of gold, what is a pennyweight and how many pennyweights does it take to equal 1 gram, and how many grams to equal 1 ounce. thanks if anyone can answer this i would appreciate it.
@2yung4u ! Troy oz. = 31.103 Grams -or- 20 DWT (pennyweight) -or- 480 grains. so there are 15.43 grains to a Gram -or- 24.0 grains to 1 DWT , 1 DWT = 1.555 Grams.
its worth it, but finding a pay streek is the hard part. you can dredge all you want but if your not in the right area . you get nuttin! just like other forms of prospecting
dam i was going to ask how much it set you back i'v been to keene i was a kid in a candy store not workin now but got a broken rib wish i can go up there and dig a littel more awsome videos pplease make more
it set me back about 4k.. but i figure it will last me about 10 years if i want. and as for the cost. i mostly paid for it prospecting, but i did put about a grand into it my self. lots of work!
I wonder if you aren't running it a little slow, or with too shallow of an angle. Could be wrong because it was hard to see but your riffles seemed pretty packed up even when you weren't adding much more material. Then again, it LOOKED like it was running a lot of water, so.... Just something to think about. Nice gold there. Wish I could find that much. :) Just went out yesterday and pretty much got skunked but it's always fun.
most of the time i was running it 2/3 open. reason why was i was at a level were it was starting to produce, and i didn't wish to blow the gold out the box
but you did bring up something i was concerned about the angle it does seem to load up. maybe from the position i have the sluice at. its a learning curve.. now i need to deal with the mercury covred gold i am getting.
thanks, over the past season and a little of lasts, i found enough and sold at the top of the market. it paid for all but $900.bucks thats all i need to make up - and i am even! not bad huh? since the dredge alone cost $3400. not adding on all the rest of the equipment such as weights or air equipment..ect.
Nice! Went there Sunday. Just across the river from where you were. Had to try out my new home made dredge. Worked some bugs out and will be back out there tomorrow. I didn't do as well as you but had a lot of fun. Which is all its about to me, Keep on posting. Look forward to meeting you on the river out there some day.
home made dredge thats cool, like the spirit. i dont think that mineral bar has a lot to offer for prospecting in general. its worked hard. if you want to get something good . go way down river . were most dont go.i plan on finishing off that hole for anything that might be left. and heading down river my self too. away from everyone else. when i was out sat. i had ten people stop and talk, i dont mind but it eats time i dont have. since i dont know you let me know who you are, when we meet?
Well I am going a few curves down tomorrow, If you see a small 2 inch dredge with big yellow pontoons that's me. This is my first year with a dredge so this is kinda new. But just being in the water makes it all worth while. If you see two guys bumbling and tripping around with a half a bottle of Jim Beam, that us. LOL. Joking.
thanks for the info. if i ever see you down there ..i will say hi... every time i am there i see dredgers and say hello unless they are across the river. then i just wave and yell to the best i can..lol dont worrie about it being your first year, i started with a proline 2" my self and i knew i needed to cut my teeth some how, i didnt know what to do ether. but it came qwikly . please do your self a favor, watch out for small bolders ,they will trick you and fall in on you .trust me i know ouch!
Hey, I know how that is. Went out one time on the umpqua and had a bunch of guys come over and talk and talk and talk..... wouldn't go away. Pissed me off. I don't mind saying hello, all friendly like, but when a guy's busy, you shouldn't hang around his equipment and such. made me kinda uncomfortable being in the water with them right there.
you hit it on the head. same here i dont mind ether but after out 5 mins it gets into my time you know? and that means less gold to get that day. after all that is the reason i am there...lol
My favorite is when they start showing you their gold. They'll pull out a half ounce vial and start talking about how they got all that in an hour just last week. Won't tell you where, so it's no good information to you, and you have to think to yourself "If you can make $500 an hour in your "Secret Spot", then what the hell are you doing out here bugging me?!" I don't mind when someone needs some help or advice, but I hate when they come and brag and lie about how great they are.
lol..! man you had me rolling there. its sooo true and they just get so close too and show you. like some bush wacker is going to jump them.. i dont know about you but up here i run into a lot of tweekers, man that stuff and prospecting don't mix.. and once you start talking to them you can never get back to your dredging..arrg! / your last statement is right,i have never in one day done better then 3,gms. how do they find that secret spot that no one else can...lol
thanks again yuleh! we did have a good time and its the only place i know ..were the kids can do what they want and not need to mind there manners..much..lol
WOW Nice size picker...I enjoy watching you! You know what amazes me... In that WHOLE stream YOU can find those special tiny items... Its GOLD good man... It's GOLD!!! WTG.. Keep at it! GL & HH to you as always!
hee hee yah, gold prospecting is like going to a flee action .. you never know whats there and pick something up just because its cool . but you never get tired of looking for the big find.
Oh. straighten out your suction line, you get bout 8% better results for that length of hose at 6' deep.

@WalkingOldMan thanks for the info. i found that out about three weeks later as i was working up river ..its the little things that mean most huh?

If you have a winch...expect about 5x the gold take. You will hardly get much fine stuff, just nuggets and fingernail flakes mostly.
