  • was sent here by my english class because of a novel ;D

  • Just read the book by William Golding Its GREAT!!! Good song :)))

  • Becuase of the bad press, I had no desire to listen to X or Xi beyond Blaze's contribution on Ed Hunter...until I found what I was missing on You Tube. Since giving the other songs a listen, I was so impressed that I had to order the cd (X Factor). I dig the darkness (I'll pick up Xi later). It's like I have discovered a different side of the Maiden I have loved since their first debut album and after giving Blaze a chance, I'm actually into it.

  • William Golding must be proud.

  • While I do love Blaze as a singer, I did not think he was the best choice to sing in Maiden. I think he should have just stayed with Wolfsbane.

    Still, this song rocks!!!

  • Blaze's voice is what was needed in these two albums, its dark and heavy, which is good for the dark undertones of this album, i believe Bruce's energy and enthusiasm would'nt have worked here, the only song that he does well is Sign of the cross,

  • @LaBass666 Yeah, Bruce would ruined this albums, and Blaze's singing style influenced Bruce, and made HIS singing better in the 2000's. You may or may not believe this, but it's true.

  • If you are reading this book now, it makes perfect sense. This song matches the book perfectly!

  • My teacher used this song for one of my projects o.O

  • This is one of the two Maiden studio albums I'm missing, the other being 'Final Frontier'. Personally, I think Blaze did pretty damn good, surely better than Bruce did in 'No Prayer for the Dying', which IMO was a HORRIBLE album all around. Thankfully Bruce got his shit together for 'Brave New World' and beyond, but Blaze did a fine enough job in his absence.

I still make fun of the Blaze years, though. "Presenting Blaze Bayley and some guys from Iron Maiden!"

  • Blazes voice sounds like shit. Bruce can sing anything

  • There's just something about this song. It's just really catchy. It's definitely going on my epic rock CD, to blast when i'm feeling epic... which is always.

  • I think two different arts cannot be compared together bruce and blaze are both awesome!

  • Talk about crap ass song

  • "Excited but scary to believe what we've become"

If somebody has read that book, u know how well the lyrics fit in that.. Scary but true

  • This song and album fucking kicks ass, and is light years better than the two albums that came before it.

  • ha was lookin up notes for the book and came across this, noice guess what my study soundtrack is gonna be :D

  • @beezybub I already had Fear of the Dark and Dance of Death down for my soundtrack of it, and now just found this... a day before it goes in :(

  • Someone still wanna say that Janick can't write songs?

  • I'm studying this book for English GCSE, I can never get this song out of my head in those lessons...

  • Best song on album, hands down !

  • lol im just here because my english teacher made us underline the lyrics and write how they relate to the book XD

  • Comment removed

  • Woah! I just listened to the beginning and already this is one of my favorite songs! Really heavy 80's type style, even though this was much later. ;-)

  • makes english class better XD

  • I dont now why many people complain about Blaze it is a cool song. It is not worth the time to fight about such things who is th better, i think no one has the time.

  • i hope dislikers die with the pool of their own blood !

  • Incredible song!!! One of my fav.

  • Dont hate on blaze, he did well in his era.

if you look at the music that the band played in X factor and Virtual XI then you will realize that Bruce wouldve sounded terrible in these 2 albums.

Blaze has a darker, heavier tune, which actually merges with the genre of this band which is "Heavy Metal"

This guy is bad ass (Y)

bruce is a great singer. He does well in his albums.

The Number of the Beast was totally for Bruce and Blaze wouldnt be able to do it at all.

  • @icyflames1995 word

  • @icyflames1995 I don't think many people would regard Iron Maiden as "heavy metal" these days.....

This sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom in Brazil or something!

  • @icyflames1995 What makes you think that Bruce would have sounded terrible in the 2 Blaze's albums? A lot of so called Iron Maiden's fan are forgeting a very little detail. If it was Dickinson who has recorded those two albums instead of Bayley, we all would be talking about how much Bayley sucks, believe me. UP THE IRONS!!!

  • IMO, this is the only song that sounds better with Blaze's voice rather than Bruce's in Death on the Road, the Clansman is far better with Bruce.

  • I read the book......Saw the movie........Listened to the song......... The songs better

  • @ikeman1156 I couldn't agree more :P

  • 26 bruce's suckers!

  • @progressivelectro How about 26 untrue Iron Maiden fans?

  • Vocal fenomenal (y)

  • canta como las hueas en esta canción

  • Blaze's voice is perfect for the darkness of this album, and Virtual XI

  • @SubjectAlpha100 got to admit, blazes voice is perfect for this, but bruce also does it pretty well on death on the road

  • It is AWFUL...Melody doesn't change all the time the same, Vocal is also terrible...I think they did this song only to say that we made a song for the book Lord of the Flies...It carried away all the effect of this wonderful book.I wish I didn't listen this shit...

  • @xlia24 Without this song I would never have read the book. It's an awesome song that captures the essence of the story beautifully. Please, give it another listen?

  • @elteescat I actually liked the Bruce version.

  • Comment removed

  • @xlia24

Neither Iron Maiden, Blaze Baley or the rest of us here care about your lack of appreciation for this song.

Having such a shallow, superficial view on music is your handicap.

Guess it sucks to be you.

  • Blaze has a different voice live, it is not the same, you do not hear much similarity.

  • Blaze is one of my 3 favouritre Iron Maiden vocalists!

  • @iCakeify LawL.

  • A lot of people will tell you, Blaze has a voice identical to Bruce's, but an octave lower and with more rasp.

  • honestly some of the worst album art I have seen lol... decent song though

  • @Dethtothenations Really? I think it's cool.......

  • @NefariousDreary id say the only worse maiden art was dance of death, not even because the idea was bad just the computer graphics looked so terrible... this cover just really doesn't evoke some of the things others do, like killers for example? thats classic stuff

  • @Dethtothenations The Dance of Death cover wasn't finished. It would have been awsome if it were, I can see it. Especially with Eddie as Death in the center. The problem was that the artist, David Pathcett, took a good deal of time working on it, costing the band enough money. They decided it was good enough, though it was just the prototype. Patchett wasn't happy with the result so he wanted his name removed fromt the credits. I think it was a great concept.

  • @NefariousDreary yeah, I would have no problem with it if it were executed well, conceptually it was actually pretty neat, but the computer graphics just look so baaaaad. personally killers and somewhere in time are my favourite maiden covers but theres others i like a lot as well, powerslave is a close third.

  • i prfer the death on the road version

  • lord of the flies yeahhhhhhh

  • This song is great. First heard it in my British Literature Class. I've been hooked on this song ever since.

  • WhoTF is belching this crap out? RIP Iron Maiden

  • @BigDan247 you do know they released a new album a in August of last year, with Bruce Dickinson last year, right?

  • the moire i listen to songs off this album the more i like it

  • i didn't red the book, but i watched a movie with those kids stranded alone on that isolated island, when i was a kid! Is the book same as the movie?

  • @nefredil yeah it is. It was required reading for me in school. One of the few books I liked. Not exactly the same, but same premise.

  • @nvsven thank you my friend :-)! Yeah, when i was a kid, don't know why, but i felt scared when i saw that pig head sticked on a spear, and those kids go wild and berserk...it is interesting, that when you let people alone in the wild, our primitive and animal side become dominant side..!

  • @nefredil I haven't wathced the movie, but the book is fantastic. It is for sure a must read, as i really enjoyed it. Its actually an allegorical novel, as it deals with human nature and the fact that savagery is within us, not civilization.

  • @MastaBlastoise human nature consists of greed, ambition, lust....etc.. I think good benevolent nature sprouts from those and is held together by society and thats what makes civilization, because we have the will to live.

  • @udot111 what if that is backwards? what if the natural man, the animal is our good side. think about it. kill for food, fight for family, sex for love and reproduction. greed and ambition stems from civilization. idle hands be the devils tools and all that. as we sit safe in our houses behind our screens, we find that we want more. why dont i have a 90 inch computer monitor!? why!? the natural, primitive man would be worried about where he is going to sleep, what hes going to eat etc.

  • @Inkswim Man always wants more, no matter what we want more

  • @udot111 but which man are we talking about? civilized man? natural man? moral man? religious man? political man? to generalize man is to not understand the nature of man. humanity is a multifaceted gem of infinite beauty and wretchedness.

  • @Inkswim if you were to strip down human kind to the basics. it's just human nature that we're curious and have to have a reason for everything. and again, we always want more

  • i dont want to live my own fantasy....

  • @kotsomite I just want to live my own fantasy

  • I don't like their cover art, its too gruesome

  • @aids696969 ye you right

  • @ToxicTurquoise454 Its iron fucking maiden, saying thier cover art is too gruesome, is like saying Megadeth's is too disturbing, or violent, its just not possible

  • @bordomsdeadly exactly

  • i like this album very much a good chance to get rest a little from dickinson,

  • This song is about the book

  • where eagles dare is alamut castle the heart of hashishins

  • @hashishfloap that's cool...

  • where eagles dare also is a hashishin music

    castle fortress of alamut

the heart of hashishins eagles nest

  • flight of icarus is hashishin music

he looked the old man of the mountain in the eye

sinan rashid ad din was the old man in masyaf

  • this song is from crusades times, hashishins were feeling high with hashish.

this song is a hashishin history

  • Good on ya Blaze for not allowing Maiden to disappear into obscurity.

but I think they should record an album re-doing the best songs from both XF and VXI. especially with their more "mature" sound I think they can make them killer with Bruce.

  • Initially i disliked this album... over in time i'm liking it.

  • paul also got addicted to cocaine too

  • Love this so much. :) Blaze's voice really is excellent.

Which isn't to say I don't like Bruce, btw. I love him too. :D

  • if bruce could not do this album id say fuck blaze get paul to do this if bruce cant i mean come on this guy blaze sucks bruce and paul are sooooo much better

  • @headbanner666 Paul was originally kicked out of the band for being unreliable, why would they want to let him back in?

  • @mrfingers69 Ralph expressed the greatest want to escape than any of the others except Piggy, he also was the one who did want "a code of morality" and hated the conflict within the tribe unlike the lyrics. It might be about Jack but it is definitly not about Ralph.

  • 21 guns to Iron Maiden from India. Iron Maiden drives me crazy & the roar drives my mom crazy too. As soon as I play iron Maiden she turns into a devil & shouts at me louder than Bruce :o))

  • 21 guns to Iron Maiden from India

  • IRON MAIDEN WOULD NOT SUPPORT YOUR STUPID AD BITCH...

  • your lyrics are kind of off..

  • Such a wonderful work of Bayley, such a voice.... I love this album, much more than the Virtual XI.

  • This song would suck if singed by Bruce... I agree with Reverentpolytheist's comment... every song imo reaches its best with its original singer, Blaze is no exception UP THE IRONS FOREVER!!!

  • @Hekatos82 but you have to admit that bruce is the best singer for iron maiden... paul diano (the first singer) even believes that... i was suprised he said that

  • @ThePorchHonkie Only because of the number of great songs made with him... theyr style changes according to their singer. Of course I t hink Bruce is one of the best singers out there, but I don't think he is better than Di'Anno, and neither the contrary. Even know when I listen to the songs of the Di'Anno period, they thrill me like the best Dickinson period songs.

  • @Hekatos82

    No way.

Bruce would have made this album good.

Instead, it just became a throw-away album.

  • Blaze.. has an incredible voice.. powerful , clear . Just try to sing that song.. you'll see that it's far to be easy.

    Respect

  • @prisonbreakfilms

You're comparing an entire book to a 5 minute song?

That book should get on its knees and suck on Iron Maiden's wang for even considering making a song about it.

  • My favourite maiden track

  • "we are lord of the flies" these lyrics don't do justice to the book at all.

  • @PrisonBreakFilms actually if you think about the lyrics it does fit in, "fate has brought us to these shores, what is ment to be is now happening, i like this living in danger" this really represents Ralph's feelings when he realized they were stranded

  • Blaze has always reminded me of Rolf Kasparek from Running Wild

  • Yeah, Absolutely!! You're Good!

  • Blaze's 2 Maiden albums were great !!! But lets be honest Blaze was terrible on stage thats why Steave sacked him !!!

  • I like the rasp in Blaze's and Paul's voice, and dont get me wrong because they are incredible singers, but Bruce is the overall greatest frontman of Maiden.

  • My English teacher used these lyrics in class today. Pretty great lesson

  • @chicksdigggme Your english teacher is awesome.

  • @chicksdigggme same! are you guys reading lord of the flies too?

  • @chicksdigggme same here XD

  • Blaze winnnnnnnn PORRA!!!!

  • great book but Blaze is gay as fuck

  • @monsterhalogeekman Yeah? your dad too

  • stop arguing about wich band is better if there metal from the 70s or 80s they have my respect (and some from the 90s and2000s too)

oh yeah and run over an emo next time your behind the wheel of something quadbike size or larger

  • haha 21 guys wer piss drunk and missed the like button

  • I'm so sick of these "band wars". You have to like either Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. Fuck it, I love them both. They are in my opinion the 2 greatest bands ever to walk the earth. They still hold up in this sorry ass disney run world and are still kicking ass. They're equally amazing. And stop comparing singers from either bands. It's all the same band, it's all good. Am i right?

  • the begining of this song looks like dire strait ;)

  • this album kind of reminds me of brave new world

  • blaze kicks bruce's ass!

  • Stop the faggotry; Blaze have a Great solo carrer and he makes an great job on This album and in Virtual XI.

Bruce is bruca, A Metal God. i like them both. BUT they are different.

So, listen to iron maiden, listen to Blaze bayley and live in peace ;)

  • wow, i have to say that this song would actually be a lot better if it were Bruce singing.

  • love the drums in this song ;)

  • this sounds so weird! first time hearing the studio version. used to the live one they played during death on the road

  • ...Saints and sinners, something willing us

We are lord of the flies...

  • Iron Maiden is magnific because of its differents eras. Each one with your caracteristics, Paul more punk, Bruce pop, Blaze dark... We have musics for all tastes.

Shouldnt we claim less and feel the magia in Maiden?

  • @edpkrlct Really?I see it more like this:All eras=Metal at its best.

  • @rofljelly135 Really? Maiden is better since it was born !!!

  • music is badass

    blaze's singing killed it though:(

  • The X Factor is diffrent album and that's why it's so good...

  • Blaze kicks Bruce´s Ass!!

  • @progressivelectro

I dont saying that blaze sucks, but Dickinson is better than him.

  • IDC WHAT ANYONE SAYS BLAZE STILL ROCKS

  • Up the Iron..Still Fun and I Have never Compared cos Maiden is always The Same..I Played This Track With some Guys in Casablanca in 1998...

  • fuck! stop saying all ''oohh blaze wasnt that bad he was a good singer'' , thats bullshit , when i want to hear iron maiden , and not songs they are written for blaze voice just because he sucks . dont get me wrong the songs on the x-factor are good , but this isnt maiden for me , thats blaze

  • @richis404 You stupid asshole, don't u realize that this is Maiden too, and Blaze was a part of Iron Maiden, so STFU

  • @wtfpenguinwtf you are real a gentleman

  • @wtfpenguinwtf thx blaze i became nightmares that my favourite band will break up.Now its easy to say that this was maiden ,too because they continued. If dickinson didnt turned to the band today there will be no maiden , master harris himself kicked blaze out because he couldnt bring the true maiden stuff , you STFU ,do you think to know better about maiden than murray and harris ?pathetic fool

  • @richis404 I see ur point but: 1st I'm not a pathetic fool if I say that Blaze was a part of Maiden and 2nd Steve didn't kick Blaze out of the band because of his voice, Steve kicked Blaze because Bruce wanted to return to Maiden, and Steve made the best choice by taking Bruce back. Maiden is at its best with Bruce easily, but I was just trying to tell you that when Blaze was a singer, it was a different era for Maiden and i liked that era very much. And Blaze has an amazing voice.

  • @wtfpenguinwtf you called me a stupid asshole. The X-factor album wasnt that bad ,but when i hear it ,i hear blaze and not maiden after so many albums and years with bruce. And if blaze would have been that great they would had hold on on him and not to accept the return of bruce ,it was that what i mean.Blaze only could sing the songs they were written for his voice, bruce can sing the songs of the di anno era even the originals sounding better but they sound good when bruce sing them

  • It was all about money. EMI fired Blaze (not Harris) cause the sales weren't going that well as with Bruce. And Bruce came back because of that. He gets much more money with Maiden rather than his solo career (which is amazing by the way).

So don't fight about who is better it's all about money. Blaze is amazing anyway and gave something different to the band. The two albums with Bayley are much more fresh than any of the albums they made after his departure. Both are amazing so everything's ok

  • I think Blaze's style fit this album really well, all the songs are really dark. It's not their best stuff but it's very far from bad, I listen to this album a lot. Bruce don't do these songs well because they weren't written for his voice, likewise Blaze didn't really do the classic maiden stuff well at all.

  • this song would be perfect for the movie Lord of the flies

  • Blaze isn't TOO bad of a singer, but for Iron Maiden he was horrible. Only Bruce could do it for Iron Maiden, even Paul Di'Anno would be better than Blaze. Maybe in a different band Blaze would be good, but not maiden.

  • @number1HitlerFan

i agree with you because i cant stand blazes vocals and i really dont mind paul. but bruce gave a some type of a rebirth of the band. i cant really find the right statement to describe what he has done to iron maiden!

  • O.o

    yeeeeaaaah ;)

  • Stop judging Blaze ! I think he sounds awesome in this one and he is a awesome singer !

  • Haha I win

  • We read this book in English class last year. Pretty cool book, it shows a lot of symbolism, which must've influenced my favorite band to write a song about it.

  • Blaze aint the problem, its the goddamn production that hurts this album

  • 1.Bruce Dickinson

    2.Blaze Bayley

    3.Paul Di'anno

  • @MIMGPDB

    1: Bruce

    2: Paul

    3: Blaze

  • Probably the best song on the album, which is really saying a lot. Blaze isn't a bad singer in general, but his voice just does not fit Maiden's style

  • dream death: headbangin in an Iron Maiden show and head falls off.

  • Again, a maiden song that would benefit greatly from having Bruce on the vocals instead of Blaze. This song is so boring, flat and lacking in power that it is just plain bad, maybe not bad but... boring.

  • @maskeiron this IS a GREAT song

  • I love iron maiden but this song suckks ass! What the hell were they thinkin???

  • one of the best bands ever, but the song would have been better with Bruce.

  • @familyguysucks69 You know on the Death on the Road DVD Maiden Plays this? So you can have your glimpse at Bruce singing this song.

  • Its missing more of a high pitch singer like BRUCe.

  • tht one part reminds me of Duke Nukem 64!!!!

    :D

  • OMG BLAZE IS SO BAD! monotone as fuck.

  • @megapurify i know bruce was awesome paul was alright blaze was awefull

  • damn talk about iron maiden at there worst

  • Bruce this, Bruce that, Blaze sucks... Fuck you, enjoy the music and stop whining.

  • Saints and sinners, something within us,We are lord of the flies*

Saints and sinners, something willing us,To be lord of the flies*
