My god what happened to Miriam Gauci's voice? There are two things on this earth that cannot be improved upon... her studio recording of Suor Angelica... and her Nedda in Pagliacci... however this performance is a rather grusome indication of what happens to the female voice after she should have taken the big step to becomming the audience.
She's very underrated. When I did my first Puccini aria I went to get a recording and just bought the first cd I found that had it. Her performance of Senza mamma is stunning. I've never heard anyone do it more beautifully, not even Kiri Te Kanawa... That was the first opera cd I bought when I started my bachelor's and I've thought before that might be the reason I love her voice so much. But that was 5 years ago and yes I've come to love other singers, but she will always be my favorite.
I have her rendition of Un Bel Di Vedremo. It knocks out all of the most famous sopranos, no contest. Maria Callas (Who is vastly overrated) sounds like an amateur in comparison. When Gauci hits the last note dead on it's just... OH chills up my spine! I'm no opera expert, but I know music. I also know that when I first heard Gauci, I had tears in my eyes. It's great to meet another fan. I wish I could sing opera XD. Good work!
No opera expert and still such a strong opinion on Maria Callas. Wow, that's some nerve :-) I don't understand why it is necessary for some people to underscore their fondness of one singer with an unfavorable comparison to another. Miriam Gauci doesn't need that - she is a wonderful singer in her own right. Maria Callas isn't harmed by it - she already is immortal.
Haha thanks! Her Un bel di IS fabulous. That last note is so close to perfect. She doesn't punch it or scoop into it, doesn't cut it short or hold it forever. As for Callas, I was very disappointed when I first heard her. I thought her voice was harsh and lacking in technique. But you don't get recognition like she did without reason so I continued to listen to her and began to really like her. What's odd is I liked her more after I watched her sing rather than just listen to a cd.
This is what's funny: Francesca Patanè sung Tosca this year, so I saw her about 12 times and Miriam Gauci sung Manon Lescaut in '90-'91, I have her preformances on my account! Bravo!
ooooooo, ce surpriza sa ma intalnesc pe aceasta cale cu muzica clasica; multumesc din suflet.

Patane is the best of the ladies. I am sorry to hear La Gauci in such bad voice.
She was so good. I love her records. Let us hope the voice returns in the future.

So true. Much of her fame comes from her performances, not her voice. I still love Callas, but Gauci outdid her for that song in a major way.
